Hyrule Warriors (Zelda Musou) Import Impressions

Yeah high difficulties in the Musou games really make you pay attention to the map and make you manage where you are and when.

On the lower difficulties your allies can plow most things pretty easy and the enemies are button mash friendly.

On the high end your allies SUCK you have to cover and save their asses from being overwhelmed and so on and the enemies are no longer button mash friendly.

From what I understand, asides from higher difficulty making enemies harder and dangerous, Musou games require you to have stage awareness, because there's one whole giant battlefield and you can only be at one place at a time

Most Musou games I've played are not nearly as simple as they appear at a glance because you really do have to put out fires all over the map. It's one thing to hack through simple crowds of mooks. It's another to be swamped in mooks while trying to keep 3 key characters alive, hold forts, and take down bonus enemies to buff your forces.

The trick to these games isn't that you can easily plow through low level enemies. It is doing that efficiently, as fast as possible, balancing reward of racking up kills (which gains resources) with risk of allowing the overall battle to spiral out of control.

I don't know how intense crisis management is in this game though.

Collected these gems from Miiverse before KOEI patch them out.

Is Link holding an umbrella? lol

Is the bolded avoidable? Can you just skip cutscenes/avoid Cia altogether?

Spoiler part implies more spoilers:
There is a couple chapters that are part of the main story involving you playing as Ganondorf, can't be avoided for completing the story.

And like StreetsAhead said you can skip all cutscenes with (+) on the gamepad.

Oh, and I finished the story mode! Yeah that's probably under 10 hours but felt longer because I replayed some levels for grinding, as well as a little dozen of squares in Adventure mode.
I'm Ok with this. Could use an alternate story DLC (no need to be as long) and it will be great honestly.

Edit: For some reason Anteo is right, added the parts spoilered and bolded. It was late, sorry :(

He said bolded, he doesnt want to see Cia's boobs.

Sorry if these have been asked already:

Do the officers and enemies feel like Zelda enemies? As in, are they designed to have a pattern for players to discover and overcome, or or are they designed to be able to pull off quick pokes and turtle like player characters?

I read a comment or do about how this is "dumbed down" compared to Warriors Orochi. Putting aside the amount of content, what's that about?

Is Link holding an umbrella? lol

It's a parasol. He might get heatstroke inside that temple.

Played the Best Buy demo. Very nice. I liked how... "questy" the map felt, more so than a regular Dynasty Warriors game. All the additions make it feel more than a Warriors game, though I haven't played one since PS2.

Character intro, plot and victory videos can be skipped.

Is there a definite "end" for character progressions? Like max level, best weapons, tech tree done, etc?

Yes, LV99, LV3 weapon with 8 slots, though tech tree completion may be the hardest one IMO.

Yes, some of their attacks will show their weak point(hexagon), boss enemies, too.

eh, I tend to skip Zeldas although the HD and Open World thing has my number

I have a good history of skipping Zeldas

Skyward Swords my copy has as much less play time than I gave The Last Story

I like the look but hate the controls

Never play Majora's Mask and the only portable Zelda I finished was OoT 3D

I'm sure Zelda U will present the lack of voices better less grunts and more charm in the grunts when you play Skyward you can still feel the charm when the characters interact you notice the lack of voices less

Twilight Princess Midna had speech it was not speech you could under stand it was still very charming so in many ways I can see how Zelda U might still win me over without voice

Zelda Musou can't sell the silence at all

You might skip completing the games, but not purchasing them. No where in your remark here does it say you didn't buy the game, only that you play other games more than them. Skipping means not even being willing to buy the product at all. From the sounds of it this hasn't happened for you yet or frequently enough to say "you skip a lot of Zelda games".

I've put more hours into WoW than I have any other game ever. Doesn't mean I don;t buy other games.

I can see why some fans will skip HW - makes sense. Some don't want the hack-slash stuff even if the high difficulty contains strategy. Skipping Zelda U though? I think anyone who likes Zelda and already owns a Wii U is buying it. Anyone who doesn't own a Wii U will consider it for the game, and decide after release if the game is worth the investment in the hardware.

This might sound silly, but after playing Diablo 3 on consoles, I'm starting to think I might like Hyrule Warriors. The idea of battling lots of relatively weak enemies at once sounded boring to me, but that's a big element of Diablo's gameplay, and it makes me think I should revisit the long standing disinterest I've held in the Dynasty Warrior games.

Believe me, killing stuff in Diablo feels much better than killing tons of enemies in HW...

okay you win, I only skipped skipped 80% of portable Zeldas (not buying any of the cell-shaded ones and the new Link between worlds)

I have owned almost every home console Zelda

was Major's Mask part of a gamecube or wii remake disc? if not I never owned a copy of that one.

I still would like voice acting to be added to HW and Zelda U as an option
i'll buy but i won't be fully satisfied

Majora's Mask was included in a Gamecube multi-game disc. I think I heard that it ran pretty bad, though.
It actually ran pretty well, but it had stability issues. And Majora's Mask is one of those games you really DON'T want to crash since that will wipe out up to an hour's worth of progress thanks to not allowing manual saves other than resetting the time.

The Wii Virtual Console one was better.

Do you need to use motion controls at some point into the game? Or is the only reason the game does not support the Classic Controller Pro because the developers want to fuck with me? :|

Co-op looks pretty ugly and the framerate becomes a joke, but you get used to that quickly enough. However, playing with waggle controls is no fun at all in a game in which you kill 1000 enemies every 10 minutes.

Classic Controller Pro? You mean the Wii-controller? No Wii U games support that, right? The Wii U Pro controller is supported I think. Haven't played myself but I recall it being in the features trailers.

Thank Platinum for that. There's really no reason not to support the CC, considering that both the CC and the Wii U Pro have the same buttons.

It's particularly annoying in Hyrule Warrior's case, since Warriors Orochi 3 did support the CC. And now they cut that feature for whatever reason.

Maybe the clickable analogue sticks buttons are needed in-game, and CC doesn't have them?
I have no idea

My copy is almost paid off

I really love the soundtrack, been listening to it on youtube.

My body is ready.

I actually forgot that the Wii U controllers have clickable buttons until you mentioned it right now. :lol

I think I've played about 10 hours of Hyrule Warriors now. Would be hilarious if the stick click does something and I just never realized that. Will try that later. I don't expect the sticks to do anything, though, since the game is compatible with the Wiimote and Nunchuck. (It's using controls similar to Twilight Princess if played that way. I never had issues with the waggle in TP, but in HW it's just too much)

60€ instead of 50€. So a 10€ "tax". Preordered mine though

You can order the regular edition for ~£32 shipping included from UK to a mainland European country, so it's quite a lot more for just a scarf. Imo it's still a shame that the full CE with all its' goodies didn't make it here.

Warriors games have been getting more loot aspects and such. They are simple fun but not as simple as they seem at first. The Zelda theme does add the art direction the Koei games tend to lack.

Oddly enough I got into the genre after playing pc Diablo style games.

Yes sure, but by paying the MSRP I'll get extra bonus points from my retailer which will get me a free 3ds game (kirby)

I wonder if any of the post-release content is going to be included on the disc in the west. Stuff like that first patch that added challenge mode, and potentially this first DLC they are about to announce. The gap in release dates from the Japanese release almost seems intended to allow the game this extra dev time for some last minute additions. In other words Japan release was sort of like a Beta test.

Maybe I'm wrong, just thinking out loud.

nah probably delayed certification/tranlsation, the content must be locked. Aka we'll get the dlc/patch day one like japan

my opinion

Ah, unlocked Link's final weapon:
The Great Fairy.
Talk about Ridley, but she really is too big! It's like playing with a spaceship powered by fairies!
It's actually not that fun to play because of that, and she also seems overpowered and difficult to balance, but I still have to try the most difficult settings.
The fun parts are her moves, there are many of them and all very fun to see and impressive. It makes me think how magic is not used that often in recent Zelda games; We can use some Final Fantasy type summon in fact.
And in the pure Tecmo Koei fashion, she also got plenty of boobs (Shia may be jealous) and a dat -giant- ass (Bayonetta may be jealous).

Digging into the japanese Miiverse and even if I break that secret in Adventure Mode, I still have plenty of content ahead me it seems. I will hardly do a full new save in the PAL version giving I only have a week of playtime to complete the japanese one...
