Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

No dash dancing and Marth and Meta Knight being heavily nerfed are the best two pieces of news to come out of these demo impressions. My hype remains at max. <3

I'm still not entirely sure what Dash Dancing is, regardless of all the hours I spent with Melee and Brawl, but being actively happy its gone reads kind of spiteful/childish no?

As for character nerfs, I understand the grief if you mained those dudes but characters getting buffed/nerfed between versions isn't really a new thing or something to really set me off. I mained Falcon in Melee and while the Brawl changes were unfortunate, I never considered it something to get my underwear in a bunch over so it feels a bit weird seeing others seemingly "distraught" at the changes *shrug*

Yeah, it just sucks that we can't do quadruple knees anymore :,(

I hope his other aerials have been improved (hard to tell from the small footage). It would be neat if he took on some of his Smash 64 properties.

His Uair and Nair have low landing lag so you're going to be seeing them a lot more than multiple knees (which we wouldn't be seeing much of anyway due to no momentum conservation, even if the Fair did have low landing lag).

I'm still not entirely sure what Dash Dancing is, regardless of all the hours I spent with Melee and Brawl.

It's literally just moving left and right quickly, mainly used as a bait tool.

Dash dancing is when you rapidly dash back and forth in place, it looks like the character has glitched out. The odds of it ever coming back are close to 0%

I dunno, seems stupid to me to completely nerf the thing that sets him apart from the rest of the fighters, they could have kept his spacing ability and made his counter a kill move and he wouldn't be overpowered due to the throw and landing lag changes in the game.

I'm always of the opinion that it's better to buff the lower tiers to the level of the top tiers than nerf the top tiers to be as bad as the bottom or try and meet in the middle somewhere, it just makes the game more fun imo.
.

and maybe thats what they were trying to do with marth by lowering some of his approach game and adding some new tricks they are trying to middle him out

i also have a similar opinion to yours in that buff lower tiers to the level of high tiers but unfortunately perfect balance is almost unreachable

yes marths spacing game maybe be gone but whats not to say he might have other options or other things.

same goes for all those higher tiers from brawl and in melee.
just my two cents

i tried doing dash dancing in project m or whaat i thought looked like it and honestly my friend thought i was going insane and my hands started to cramp lol

I just don't get the point in changing Marth in the first place, he offered something unique to the game and instead of making his weaknesses greater to balance the character (something that has already happened in the game due to throw changes and increased landing lag) they nerfed what made him unique to the point of it practically not mattering.

I also don't get what's wrong with PM Falco, the mentality is "make the game like Melee" and that's what they did, there's nothing to understand there.

If the Brawl reflector throw actually added anything to his game, they would probably have kept it. I don't hear anyone complaining that PM removed Mario's FLUDD.

Seems like Marth will still play well on skilled players.

As for Falco, it's because it diversified him. Rather than say, making the reflector useful, the players just can't learn new. Then again Smash fanbase.

You have no soul. >:(

Oh come on, you know he had it coming. He got to be incredibly OP for two whole games, it was his turn. :P Besides, it sounds like Robin is stepping up in a big way!

I really think you've just started saying these things to aggro competitive players now so you can just go on about why you hate competitive people some more.

Think whatever you want, but I said it simply because it's how I feel and an honest opinion I have regarding my personal gameplay preferences for the new Smash. No ulterior motives. Novel concept, I know!

I'm sorry I just discovered this Madden gif thing.

They made the reflector useful by making it like it was in Melee, It was diversified in Melee by having different properties. I can't see any changes where keeping it as a throw is useful to Falco's playstyle.

The hard thing about making the reflector throw useful whilst keeping it a throw is that the reason space animal reflectors were useful at all in melee was that they were cancellable, this gave them a good pressure game and a good combo game. Making the reflector be a throw would remove all of that for Falco and it would look weird if it was cancellable.

If you want to play Brawl Falco, play Brawl. The mod is obviously not for you, it's not as if it's an official game or that you're forced to play it, it's done by fans of Melee for fans of Melee.

Aw so its basically part of the "footsie" game. Makes sense. Not going to lie though, it looks aesthetically awkward as all fuck though :/ (As opposed to like Street Fighter footsies which looks decently natural)

yeah dash dancing does look odd :/ my friend giving me weird looks as i tried to attempt it rofl

I hope Marth's nerfs don't bother me too much but it looks like Shulk and Lucina will consume a lot of my time previosly reserved for him regardless of that.

Oh my, I just read Purple Yoshi is an option. Sakurai must have read my tear filled post and made a last minute change.

This better not be a lie.

I'm just struggling to think what your reasons would be for hating something as simple as the fact that a character can move left and right to bait another player other than "competitive players like this, maybe if I complain about it someone will say something to me and I'll get another chance to get on my high horse again about how most competitive players are awful people".

Quick question to everyone, who is your favorite Nintendo that you can say has a realistic chance of being playable?

I guess Wolf coming back is the only realistic playable character addition that I can think of. Maybe Dixie Kong.
Ridley, another F-Zero rep, Captain Syrup and Lip are never going to happen, though.

It looks very much like, however, that Sakurai is pretty much done with "classic" characters (i.e. characters that originated the N64 era at the latest, but also had games since then). As I've pointed out before, the only Nintendo newcomers I would consider being classic in any sort in Smash 4's roster are Little Mac (who had a new game entry into his series on the Wii, even though he is better known for the NES game), and Duck Hunt. Beyond that, every character either is either new themselves, or takes design/moveset parts from a new entry to that series (e.g. Palutena is nothing like NES Kid Icarus' Palutena).

Moving into Smash 5/DLC possibilities, the only "classic" characters I can imagine happening are the weird retro choices that Sakurai makes every time such as Duck Hunt and bringing back cut characters such as Mewtwo, Wolf, Ice Climbers and Lucas.
Beyond that and possibly Dixie Kong getting a spot, especially if there's another DKC game coming out before Smash 5, I honestly doubt that Sakurai is at this point looking at anything but more recent IPs or installments to series. The fact most newcomers are more recent characters even though there's still plenty of cool, classic characters to pick from kinda shows that.

Oh the reddit guy will make a QA thing.

Yeah no. Cancelable projectiles exist in various games.

Actually they claimed it is trying not to be like Melee. Funny. And bullshit, you should be able to criticize the mod, like say, those shitty alts like Wolf's. Disgusting.

Pikachu has Gold's backwards cap from Gold Silver and Crystal? Is this 100% confirmed?

If so then fuckkkkkkkkkkkk yes! Gold > Red

This is a step in the right direction for Ice Climbers, Wolf and Lucas redemption.
not really, nothing can be done to redeem cutting them

Costume colours are the new Rosalina is an assist trophy in Brawl.

Going to wait for pictorial evidence.

Throwable reflector with all the same properties as Melee Falco's reflector would look weird imo and it would be OP as hell.

You remove the cancelling or increase the startup and the move is useless, you reduce the damage it doesn't make a difference, you reduce or increase the knockback and it either becomes an even better combo tool or it also becomes a finisher, you reduce the range and that doesn't matter, it's still a ranged, cancellable reflector.

I don't get what making his reflector throwable adds that is actually necessary to the character other than making an already solid character even better just because of "muh unique animations", his reflector is already unique.

Yeah you can criticise the mod, but I've still not heard an actual reason why it should be like it is in Brawl, or why it shouldn't be like it was in Melee.

I don't even care. I hate them with a passion.

How come? Is it the characterization of them you don't like or their playstyle? If there's a character I don't care for I just ignore them rather than hating on them.

Like Dr. Mario being in makes me do nothing but roll my eyes and sigh but I'll just ignore him and people who like him can enjoy it, everyone wins

Then make it up by reducing his other properties.

And yes, "muh unique animations" because Brawl actually had effort to make their "clones" less repetitive.

thats generally the approach i go for albeit i will try them out and play with all the characters since trying out everything a game has to offer is part of the fun lol

Xenoblade Chronicles update:

Thoroughly explored the rainforest leading up to Frontier Village. So... much... stuff. And now I'm inside the village and my jaw is on the floor. This place seems huge, and extraordinarily colorful. :-D

I fast-traveled back to Colony 9 because I had reached carrying capacity for crystals. I discarded a few low-level crystals, but wanted to start converting the bulk of them into gems. I quickly and thoughtlessly cranked out multiple gems using my Rank III crystals and cylinders, just to make space. I then slotted the resulting gems into available slots on my party's armor and weapons wherever it produced a stat boost and/or passive bonus that made sense (I.E. ether increase on Sharla, etc).

Question about equipping gems: If I slot a gem into a weapon or an article of clothing and then later equip a different weapon or article of clothing, the gem in the slot is automatically removed and returned to my inventory, correct? I don't have to manually remove each gem, do I?

Another question: I know some quests expire at certain points, but is there a post-game where I can continue finishing the remaining quests, leveling up to challenge super-bosses, etc?

Game is so amazing. It's mind-boggling how the game feels so grand in scale, yet very intimate at the same time.

I always though Ice Climbers were such weird characters to include, but they're pretty unique and lots of people like them so I don't really mind.

And yes, "muh unique animations" because Brawl actually had effort to make their "clones" less repetitive.

But the animation doesn't really matter that much, the applications of the move do on the other hand.

Fox and Falco have their reflector as a large part of their play style, yet their combos and general play style are completely different. That's enough for me.

Guys I think the competitive community has bigger problems than dash dancing like no stages to play on

There are hazards on Battlefield, FD and the Animal Crossing stage on the WiiU version now?

I always though Ice Climbers were such weird characters to include, but they're pretty unique and lots of people like them so I don't really mind.

They were as weird as Pit, Mr G&W, Rob or DHD... I love those classic inclusions because they mean unique weird characters with unique weird and amazing movesets and gameplay :(

So, um..I know Ness is in the leak and everything, but has ever been officially confirmed? Like, even by someone playing a demo or something.

This thread is too hard to keep up with, and Google only gets me articles about the leaks.

Oh yeah, definitely, the first thing I did in Brawl was go into training mode to see who suited my playstyle.

I didn't care all that much for Pit when he was announced but after messing around with him out he became one of my mains.

And then on the flipside I thought I was gonna love playing as Wario but it didn't click with me at all and have only ever played as him to collect his trophies in the solo mode or sometimes as a rare novelty.

But like I said I'd never actively wish a character gone for the sake of me not liking them.

Probably because their playstyle generally revolves around 0-to-death chain grabs in Brawl and 0-to-death "wobbling" in Melee.

It's much worse in Brawl, and they're a big contribution (alongside Meta Knight) to why Brawl's character development became stagnant.

Nope, not yet. He's in though, rest assured

Let's just say I've been infinite chaingrabbed a few too many times. I think having a character in the game that can theoretically capitalize off any mistake with a free kill is insane. You might hear the argument don't get grabbed; I'd say whoever says that is nuts. You will get grabbed.

There are things I love about Ice Climbers' design. Without chaingrabs/wobbling/handoffs I think they'd be great.

Some stuff from the AMA:

"The speed of the game is...omg this must be so surprising to hear, but it's inbetween Brawl and Melee. However...air speed is still closer to Brawl. Ground speed is very Melee feely though.

Fast falling is incredibly fast though.

Shields are fast. Very fast. They are basically the new wave-dash (I dare say), I'm being totally serious, and you can attack out of them with a great deal of attacks."

You're right. I though Mr Game and Watch was weird to, but I liked him because in Brawl (I can't remember if you can do this in Melee or not) if you selected him repetitively you could get the announcer dude to say "Mr Gay Man, Mr. Gay Man, Mr. Gay Man" over and over and I thought it was the funniest thing in the world.

Pit was a weird inclusion in Brawl but it probably lead to Kid Icarus: Uprising so I'm sure most people aren't complaining anymore. I think they could reboot some of these character's older franchises like they did with Pit.

The counter pick game is looking sparse, even more so on 3ds.

Well games are going to take longer due to custom moves setup so I don't mind it not taking as long to pick a counterpick stage.

Also Kalos Elite four, Pilotwings and Great Fox could very well be counterpick on the WiiU version.

Not particularly bothered about the 3DS version, it's not going to be at many non-Nintendo tournaments and even at Nintendo tournaments, they probably won't let you pick stages.
