Digital Foundry: Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition - The Last Wii U To Switch Port Is Excellent

Thick Thighs Save Lives

NeoGAF's Physical Games Advocate Extraordinaire
Xenoblade Chronicles X on Wii U delivered a remarkable open world with brilliant visuals bearing in mind we were dealing with a console that sits within the same technological generation as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. And what this new and improved 'Definitive Edition' on Switch proves is that the game still holds up today, comparable with some ninth generation console efforts. John goes into depth on what made the game so impressive to begin with - and how this last Wii U to Switch port makes the game even better.

04:20 - Big Character Model Changes
05:32 - What Else Has Changed?
06:49 - How Does It Perform?
07:53 - Why Does It Look So Good?
08:38 - Yes, I Compared It To Halo Infinite

the only thing I really see that could be improved a lot is the draw distance on background items. Other than that I wouldn't care if all games where on this leveled and highly polished.

Jumping in on Switch 2. It should be patched to 60fps on launch since they found it in the game files.
Oh snap, they did?

lol, I asked in another thread if you clip through cars when this game launched. Someone here adamantly proclaimed “no”, yet clearly that was a lie.

Ahhhh I want this, but I just can’t justify spending so much time on it. I know NotMyProblemAnymoreCunt NotMyProblemAnymoreCunt has been enjoying it so far. It’s such an awesome game.
This is me man. I've been wanting this for like a decade now, and now I finally can easily buy it, (though the price isn't really what I wanna pay, but that's not a big deal), but I'm just way, way too busy for this right now. I really want it, but I'm gonna have to wait.

Who did they think I was shilling for?

The game is a huge time sink. I played it for 200 hours on WiiU a few years back and I got my fill. But Im sure at some point I will get back to it, theres no rush.

I still hate the new fucking faces. God they’re awful. I also like how John verbally jerks the game off for 12 odd minutes and completely ignores the massive pop in during a cutscene at the very beginning.

It's failures are expected due to hardware so it's not rarely worth going on about of it falls beind a game running on ps5, It more worthwhile to talk about how well it's doing for the hardware it's on

Seems like a nice upgrade over the WiiU version. And it still looks great, it's one of those games that proves art direction beats graphics any day. Looks even better emulated at higher resolutions and 60fps.

It's a shame the other 2 Xeno games on Switch suffer from bad IQ (Xenoblade 2 in particular) because this game looks just as good IMO and is able to run at a higher resolution without performance issues.

Loving the game so far, but some of the music is just out of place and bad IMO

Example, the first main hub youre in....

"I CANT HEAR YOU......I CANT SEE YOU!!!"

Sounds like a Sawano soundtrack.
He makes some cool instrumental tracks but IMO most of his stuff with actual singing and lyrics sucks.

Art beats graphics everytime

Yup.
Just the other day I was playing a demo for this indie game "Europa".
The gameplay is a bit janky, the animations aren't the best and the assets aren't that good if you look at them up close.
But the art direction is really nice and the way the image just comes together looks awesome.

Runs at native 1440p 60fps on my 1050ti laptop too.

The game looks great, it was the one game on the wiiu outside zelda that really impressed me with the scope and visuals. That being said Digital foundry really cant help themselves with the glazing sometimes..."Definitive Edition' on Switch proves is that the game still holds up today, comparable with some ninth generation console efforts". This isn't close to ps4 gen openworld games let alone ninth gen. The art and game are awesome no doubt.
