This describes it all pretty well. You're not going to put more slices of pizza on your pizza, you're getting cheesy bread. You can't trade the bread in for pizza because it wasn't supposed to be made as more pizza. It's bread. IT'S FREAKING BREAD!

But that analogy doesn't take into account Ganondorf. Ganondorf is slice of the pizza, not an extra.

I do think that Sakurai should have thrown Alph in as a fourth clone. Give him Rock Pikmin and make him a little lighter.

I would love for someone to make a live action reenactment of this.
Ganondorf is a slice of pizza that never would've been baked if it wasn't baked the way it was, because the developer didn't know of a creative way to bake it.

We're aware of that. Clones didn't keep Ganondorf from getting new moves. It's not like they were thinking "Okay, who should turn into a pig - Ganondorf or Dr. Mario?"

While I don't think Pikmin needs another rep
(though Plasm Wraith could work)
Though Louie would be a better character - more notable, slightly taller, just give him the Rock Pikmin and maybe a few other changes here and there, and he'd work perfectly.

I'm hoping that if that's the case... then old 3DS can handle up to 3 ice climbers at once.
Why is that? Because if it can, that mean's it's possible for ice climbers to be DLC for new3DS. My reasoning, if you're an old 3ds, you can't pick ice climbers, therefore, there would only ever be, at most, 3 ice climbers on screen at once (1 old 3DS vs 3 new3DS).
Well there is this thing called finite time and resources. Especially if even the verterans were rebuilt from the ground up. You may have heard of it

I just can't see Dark Pit being a straight clone. Either he's going to be more like Brawl Pit, or he's going to use different weapons.

I would have preferred Alph as a clone over Dark Pit 100%. A second Pikmin character is more interesting than a third Kid Icarus character and I'm still not keen on the idea of a character being a palette swap of another.
No, the others didn't, but I believe that had Ganondorf not been a clone in Melee he would have been a unique newcomer in Brawl.
There is absolutely no reason to keep Ganondorf a clone outside of some stupid sense of tradition.

The clones don't bother since I know they're essentially bonuses, and don't actually take up potential rosters spots... but I do feel like they could have went for better choices as far as clones are concerned. Dark Pit seems like a really boring choice, even for a clone.

SFZ - SF II - SF IV - SF III ... But it's Cacpcom, Hugo in, Makoto in, Yun in, Yang in, but no Alex, no Sean... Don't take the timeline seriously, even Cacpcom don't give a fuck, SF IV is just Ono's Dream Match.

Sakurai wanted Marth in the game.
Sakurai didn't know if they'd get permission for Marth, so he sketched up a moveset for Dedede in case they didn't.
They got Marth and thus didn't have to do Dedede.
Sakurai then wanted to quickly beef up the roster and threw in the 6 clones.
In hindsight, Sakurai said they probably could've made Dedede in roughly the same timeframe instead.

Replace one of the most useless moves in the game with one that adds a ton of unique gameplay and complexity for both the Zelda player and the opponent while still being easy to understand and utilize.
I think it would be fantastic from a game design POV. We'd like it to be balanced as well, but that's a tuning issue. The idea is good at its core.
Ganondorf is kind of like ordering a Pizza half-mushroom half-cheese pizza, but the pizza parlor ran out of mushrooms they can only physically get you an all-cheese pizza. But hey, a whole cheese pizza is better than just half a cheese pizza right? So you take the whole cheese pizza because hey, a whole cheese pizza is better than only half a cheese pizza. But then the next week you order another half-mushroom half-cheese pizza, but you end up getting a full-cheese pizza because by then it's tradition!
I think I did that right.

If any one character is responsible for why Ganondorf is still a clone, it's one of the newcomers that took a lot of work. Like it or not, this is Ganondorf's identity in Smash Bros. Your best bet is to hope for Sakurai to include Ganon as his own character in pig form.
I can see his animations being identical, but the art assets on his moves being different. Similar to how dr mario's pills have different art than mario's fireballs.
Dark pit could do the orbitar animation w/ palms, etc.
