So how does this work?

There's a 'clan' feature/list in the game, where everybody who is a member of the DestinyGAF clan is listed for easy party creation and stat tracking?

I haven't been watching the live streams of those who have early copies today, but from what I've surmised no there isn't such a feature. A shame.

But at least in the player list you can see who is in the clan by their tag.
