Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

given that, as it stands, Ness is COMPLETE SHIT in all 3 Smash games, I think making him not complete shit and actually fully representative of his character would be nice, yeah

That's fair, but I just think it's weird people are so passionate about it to the point where they'd want him and Lucas to be cut and replaced with side characters with the same exact movesets.

That, and I don't think their source PK moves would be particularly exciting in the context of Smash.

it's like if Mario rocked up with Peach's umbrella

not really

It's funny, Ness in Smash 64 is the whole reason I got into the series. My best friend was anticipating it hard core but I wasn't into fighting games so I only had a passing interest. As soon as we unlocked Ness at his house I went out and bought the game and it has been one of my favorite series since.

Nintendo Power made me want Earthbound as a child, but it was always so expensive, then Ness became my main in Smash 64 and I wanted to play the game even more. Years later I was able to borrow it from a buddy and was just so... underwhelmed. I even enjoy classic JRPGs like Dragon Warrior/Quest 1-3 but Earthbound didn't do it for me, I then tried out Mother 1 and was even more disappointed.

Is this what America eats?

No words.
Not only do we eat corn dog pizzas, we applaud the chef when it's served. Like so:

No, we don't eat that. Well, I mean, somebody did, given an image of it exists, but I wouldn't. I don't like my pizzas so... exotic. Pepperoni will suffice.

Lucas and Ness both make top 5 and yet Pikachu was how low?

Yes I'm still salty over Pikachu's rank. Not butthurt though, only way to get there would have been if TP Link and Toon Link were separate and Tp ranked higher.

Hey, can anyone re-post Mysterious' Palutena/Rosalina/Zelda/Peach wallpaper from earlier today? I saw it while on MobileGAF, but I haven't been able to find it again while on my laptop.

Also, does anyone have any Smash phone wallpapers? I'm looking for a good one for my iPhone 5...

Yeah, Pikachu's placement is really weird to me to. I thought he was pretty heavily used by the community.

As someone who was in the same situation as you (liking Paper Mario and not liking Chrono Trigger), I loved EarthBound. Not sure about the Pokemon comparison.

That's nice to know, maybe I'll consider playing it sometime.

Of that list I'd say its most similar to Pokemon. Also no love for Chrono Trigger, interesting?

Is it really? My main issues with Pokemon (aside from the bizarre lack of 3D outside of the lag-heavy battles) was speed. I almost never complain about speed in games (I love Brawl) but Pokemon was just too slow. Every HM required an animation that would take a couple seconds, every single battle had to go to a battle screen where I would waste several seconds trying to run from a junk Pokemon. I also disliked the weird controls - why did they have to make the circle pad controls so slippery?
That being said, I know Pokemon is a popular series, so clearly I'm just not the right audience for it.
Chrono Trigger mostly suffered from a pretty bad ending - they give you a bunch of sidequests right before you think you have to fight the final boss, which you kind of need to do to level up enough. I also didn't like the semi-real-time battle system, I found myself mashing the A button a lot waiting for Chrono to be able to move again.
Once again; popular game, so clearly I'm not the right audience.

Played and beat earthbound, and while it was good, I gotta say you earthbound fans are nuts (in a good way). Some of the most dedicated people to that franchise ever. I don't get what you guys see in that game, but I assume it's something similar to what I see in zelda. You guys are obsessed, dedicated, and loyal to a franchise that has practically no followers outside of the nintendo bubble. Not surprised to see ness/lucas up there.

The best word, in every sense of the word, is that you guys are fanatics.

It's an adventure in the purest sense imaginable. A game about maturity.

No game out there really captures the idea of a game that, quite literally, plays like it's extracted from the mind of a child - childlike imagination with irreverent and risque mature elements, as well as crazy enemies.

And really, you grow with the adventure. At the end of it, it's hard not to feel like you've changed in your quest.

Sure it's pretty grindy and run-of-the-mill gameplay-wise. It ain't the best game but it factors into a great experience.

All I've got is my minimalist one. Here's a sample, though this is not the right size for an iPhone:

I could easily change the color of the background if you want. Just let me know.

Yeah it just doesn't grab some people, but the people it does grab it gets its claws in deep. Mother 1 can be rough, even for dedicated Mother fans. Took me forever to get motivated enough to get through the whole game but it was worth it in the end. Again though, if you weren't grabbed by Earthbound you won't be by Mother. Mother 3 might be more of your cup of tea dueto it having more emphasis on the story and the story being great.

Don't get me wrong X and Y were awful as far as games go. Chrono Trigger struck me as odd because its one of those games that everyone loves that usually I end up not liking but actually love.

Maybe in the competitive community, but certainly not to the average Smash fan.

He's not that good on a competitive level, though? The reason he's so popular in that community has everything to do with FALCOOOOOOWN PAWWWWWWNCH!!!, The Knee and SHOW YA MOVES! as it does to do with his viability (which lately isn't looking so well).

He's just cool and fun and goofy and exciting. He's Captain motherfucking Falcon. He has nipples on his costume and no-one gives a fuck. He has the greatest taunt in video game history. He is undoubtedly the most likeable character in the series history.

Same here! I'd main the shit out of Miku right alongside Mega Man and Kirby. :)
:3

Also, seeing as people trying to predict Oric's remaining top 3 vets, here's my post from way back when number 5 was unveiled:
I'm going to make a prediction that zelda/shiek is going to be in Oric's top 3 vet list... that's right, I'm skipping the unknown number 4 and going straight to the top 3 :P

I really should get around to beating the game, but already I've recognized that the game has some of the most sophisticated RPG elements that for some reason I haven't seen in other games.

I'm talking about the rolling health counters that allow you to enact on a party member who's actually dying but not dead yet, and the fact that the game recognizes that you can steamroll some random enemies, so it doesn't force you into fighting them

Timed hits sounds good... does Earthbound have that?

I'm not bothered that you called Pikmin boring - different things appeal to different people.

Nope just Mother 3. They added a system where you can keep attacking (up to 16 times total), if you can press A along to the music.

Mother 3 does in a way. If you hit the attack button in rhythm with the battle music you can get up to 16 hits. It should be noted it's harder to do in the English fan translation version unless you have a reproduction cart or a flash cart and are playing it on actual hardware.

Maybe in the competitive community, but certainly not to the average Smash fan.
If you really think that most people who regularly uses this thread or would vote in contest like this, regardless of skill level, doesn't attach any special meaning to 'Falcon Punch' or 'show me ya moves' I'm not quite sure what to say. Falcon is hardly beloved purely for his competitive value.

Hey, I just realized I have some Smash gameplay videos on my YouTube account that I don't think I've ever posted here for you guys. They're nothing special, but it's something to watch for a few minutes while we wait for the information blowouts:

Smash Wii U @ E3 2014: Rosalina, DK, Pikachu, and Mega Man on Coliseum (That's me playing as Mega Man.)

Smash 3DS @ SDCC 2014: Mega Man, Pikachu, Little Mac, and Bowser on Reset Bomb Forest (That's me as Mega Man again.)

Smash Wii U @ SDCC 2014: Little Mac, Mario, Mega Man, and Zero Suit Samus on Boxing Ring (I'm recording this one, not playing.)

Smash 3DS @ SDCC 2014: Toon Link, Samus, Sonic, and Toon Link on Living Room (I'm the first Toon Link.)

They're not the best videos, but enjoy anyway!
