Huh, didn't think both Ness and Lucas were top 5 material, guess that's what happens when the series becomes a cult classic.

Man, now I want to listen to that Mother 1+2 arrangement album again...maybe after I play through the series again next year.

Same. I love having source references in movesets, but I'm just happy to have them in the game. and they're sooooooo funnnnnnnnnnnnnn (dose lucas A-attacks <3)

RPGs I've played and liked: Paper Mario, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
RPGs I've played and didn't like: Chrono Trigger, Pokemon Y
Which is Earthbound more like?

Please understand that this is just my opinion - I'm not saying that the two RPGs I didn't like are bad, they just weren't my type of game.

I wish the mother games weren't such a chore to play, mother 1 and earthbound were such grind heavy games with too simplistic of combat and 2derp4me story

given that, as it stands, Ness is COMPLETE SHIT in all 3 Smash games, I think making him not complete shit and actually fully representative of his character would be nice, yeah

it's like if Mario rocked up with Peach's umbrella
 
Ness deserved top 5. One of the most unique movesets in Smash, and repped the nearly forgotten in the US Mother series at the weirdest time. Go mah boi go.

Still kind of amazed to see Lucas at 5 though.

Mother 1 sure, but EarthBound? There's a little bit of grinding at the start, but that's it.

EarthBound and Mother 3 are more Paper Mario than Chrono Trigger/Pokemon. Mother 3 even has timed hits in battle.

As someone who was in the same situation as you (liking Paper Mario and not liking Chrono Trigger), I loved EarthBound. Not sure about the Pokemon comparison.

Of that list I'd say its most similar to Pokemon. Also no love for Chrono Trigger, interesting?
 
Nice to see Ness getting some love. Mother's probably the only Nintendo RPG series outside of Pokemon (and the first two Golden Sun games) that doesn't bore me to tears.

I would like to try earthbound, but after hearing about the combat, I really doubt I will go through it.:/ Shame because everything else look grand.

It's funny, Ness in Smash 64 is the whole reason I got into the series. My best friend was anticipating it hard core but I wasn't into fighting games so I only had a passing interest. As soon as we unlocked Ness at his house I went out and bought the game and it has been one of my favorite series since.
 
Played and beat earthbound, and while it was good, I gotta say you earthbound fans are nuts (in a good way). Some of the most dedicated people to that franchise ever. I don't get what you guys see in that game, but I assume it's something similar to what I see in zelda. You guys are obsessed, dedicated, and loyal to a franchise that has practically no followers outside of the nintendo bubble. Not surprised to see ness/lucas up there.

The best word, in every sense of the word, is that you guys are fanatics.

Whoa, both Earthbound/Mother kids made it in. Who knew?

I enjoy playing with them! Cept for the recovery, with random stages those narrow pitfalls were deadly. Still, isn't all about winning, sparkles and yo-yos and self electrocution are great.
 
HELL YEAH NESS! He was my second vote, right after Kirby. :) (I think. Maybe he was my third...?) I strongly prefer Ness over Lucas, though honestly I'm thrilled they're both in the top five.
Even though Kirby should be too.
