Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

I have this big spreadsheet where I was recording the appearances of every character as soon as the pics came out, and I was doing all of the stages as well... I think I finally got tired of updating it after E3, though. One thing I do remember was that some characters (Sonic, Olimar, and Donkey Kong come to mind) went for over a month without making a single appearance, yet Mario showed up at least once in almost every week. I wonder if we'll ever get a retrospective on how far in advance the images were planned and taken...

This is the truth.

Like I played him a little in Melee and he just didn't feel as good as in 64.

And then when he lost his "KREEEEENG!" sound for his bat in Brawl, I stopped paying attention to him altogether.

  • If the game DOES NOT LEAK (releases sat) nobody wins or loses.
  • You wear the new avatar until ONE WEEK FROM THE LEAK DAY.

For my money, this is still the best handheld fighter that isn't a port:

I realize, we're equal right now when it comes to unrevealed newcomers...

Brawl had 4...Lucario, R.O.B., Toon Link, and Wolf. Lucario was accidentally leaked, of course, through a commercial, but only his head icon on the Sticker Trophy menu, and for all intents and purposes he wasn't actually revealed till post-release.

And now we've got Duck Hunt, Dark Pit, Doc (who I assume Sakurai will treat like a newcomer, especially as he might have some new stuff), and Bowser Jr.

Pretty much matches up too...Lucario and Bowser Jr. are the newcomer characters who are unique, and from a pre-existing series. Toon Link and Wolf and Doc and Dark Pit are the regular clones (and some would say disappointing ones), and Duck Hunt and R.O.B. are the WTF! Retro.

Anyway, I imagine when we do get a leak, it'll be around the POTD time as that's when stores open up in Japan iirc if a street-date's broken. Exciting.

It still hasn't really sink in how bizarre of a pick Duck Hunt is. I mean I know a lot of people were surprised by ROB, but it kind of made sense with the way he was being pushed in Mario Kart and other games. Duck Hunt is something I never dared to believe would actually show up, even after the text leak. It's gonna be really weird to actually play as him.

DH's gameplay is the only thing I'm really excited for from the inevitable leak in the next few days. That and other little mechanical things.

I'm curious about Pitoo and Doc's differences, but not enough to get hyped about.

Has Duck Hunt made any cameos in recent years?

I don't even recall it being brought up in WarioWare's 9-Volt games. Only place I remember is when in Pikmin 3 his laugh was used when the ship crashes.

Also, I'd love if DHD's alt colors referenced other Nintendo dogs, like that one from Chibi-Robo, and Poochie (the Yoshi one).
 
When did Brawl actually leak in Japan, relative to its release? I had assumed it was more than a week before - I guess memories do dull with time. I do clearly remember being in extreme denial about "ONLY THIRTY-FIVE CHARACTERS???" and no Isaac for longer than was healthy...

I've been one of the biggest Shin Budokai advocates on GAF haha. Well, whenever DBZ fighting games are brought up at least.

I hope to see some of you basement dwellers at her L.A concert in october. Thats when they will announce her in Smash. I would actually like to see it happen just for the insane amount of anger and hate spilling from everyone. Drama leads to a great show

Duck Hunt Dog is a dream come true and will be amazing. I'm still floored. I will be promptly re-floored when I see gameplay in the next 24-120 hours. I will then be floored for a third time when I get my hands on him.

I considered Duck Hunt every now and again as a WTF Retro pick but it's one thing to think of a WTF Retro pick from your childhood in jest. It's another thing entirely seeing Sakurai work his magic. The man is a legend.

In Wii Play, the first minigame was a target shooting game. It had five sections with different targets (cans, clay, targets, etc). The last stage had Ducks to shoot.

It was very much the closest we've seen to DH in a long time, I think.

(No Dog, iirc. Maybe some barking though?)

I remember he had a few Warioware cameos, don't recall where, but I know it was on GBA, GC, and Wii.

Also got curious and looked it up...apparently Tetris DS?

This disturbs me greatly. Also to this day I have no idea what those games are about, just that my best friend is obsessed with them.
