Games you remember, names you don't

Game was one of the first released Xbox Live games for the original Xbox. I know there was an option within the game to change your voice to one of a list of filters (robot, chipmunk etc).

I remember it maybe being a party game with platforming elements. Characters may have been some sort of weird critters. Any suggestions?

I think that might be Fuzion Frenzy.

Pretty sure this is Whacked! not Fuzion Frenzy.

This could be a reallyyyyy crappy game for all I know, but when I was younger my dad had a game on the PC that involved driving cars that had turrets or guns or something loaded on the top of the hood, and I think you used them to fights mechs or something. I'd say about 13 years ago or so, definitely at least 10. I remember the characters/people in the car talking a lot and I they were like, really hip- like I think one of the guys had a fro', but I'm not sure.

Anyone got any idea what it may be?

The game starred a pink-haired Tarzan-like character who fought pigs. He had all these suits that powered him up in many ways a la Mario. It was a charming game, really.

There was a top down racing game I remember playing on the PS1. It was an arcade style racing game, and it had hazards and traps on the road that you had to evade.

That's all I remember from it.

Check out Motor Mash, Dare Devil Derby 3D, RC de GO!, Micro Machines V3, Rush Hour.

Some other topdown-style racing games on the PS1 include Cubix: Robots for Everyone - Race'n Robots and Circuit Breakers. Circuit Breakers isn't quite topdown, but the gameplay is the same as Micro Machines V3 and Dare Devil Derby 3D, since it's from the same developer as those games.

Have a game a played a ton on my Mac years ago and was wondering if GAF could help me be reunited with it. This is what I remember of it:

- Sprite based FPS, kinda somewhere between Doom and Duke 3D era tech, modern day military setting.
- You had a squad you could command, give them simple commands like wait or follow. I remember you had to maintain their moral in missions or else they could go berserk and attack you.
- I don't remember their being any supernatural elements, but the first foes you fought were these larger then life cultists with masks and flamethrower troops.
- Missions briefings were all done via a dude talking to you over answering machine.
- I have this firm memory of one of the missions. Throughout the entire game the briefings keep stressing that you have to keep to the 'rules of engagement' (don't fire unless fired upon first). Mostly, the foes with auto attack so this isn't relevant but one mission has all the enemies in it ignore you unless you attack first. So you can do the mission without firing at all.

Thats kinda all I remember. If anyone can help I would be very thankful. Between this game and Marathon, they were probably the first two FPS games I played.

Probably Warriors of Fate, which is also based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
Yeah. That's probably it. Thanks!

Another one:

An old PC game from the 90s. I don't remember what the main character looks like, but I remember that it was like a puzzle game, top down view (I think) and everything's layed out on a grid, and you have to navigate through a maze, find a key and avoid getting eaten by some piranha plant-like things scattered across the maze.

If it helps, I remember that StarCraft: Brood War was new at the time and the game's graphics was way more primitive than that.

I think Chip's Challenge, that game that came bundled with Windows 95, is the closest comparison I can think of.

Oh wow it is Circuit Breakers! I used to love that game growing up.

Okay, so I've got a more recent one. I think it was released within the last couple of years but I've forgotten what it was called. I've never actually played it but it always looked interesting, as a result I'm going off memorized screenshots so I might be inaccurate.

It's an indie game, and one that I think might follow the "learning the rules is part of the puzzle" approach similar to that of Starseed Pilgrim. I think it took place in a glitchy looking (maybe black and white) world, and I vaguely remember seeing terminals scattered around that you could use to "hack" the world to do what you wanted.

E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy?

Doesn't look like it.

The art was pretty simple. Pretty much straight 2d art from the 1980's, with heavy use of glitching effects similar to those from old tile loading errors.

Teleglitch? That game has 2d art with a lot of glitchy distortion effects, although little hacking if I remember correctly.

Failing that, your other post reminded me of Memories of Broken Dimension and Glitchspace, but nether are 2d.

Yeah it's none of those. Teleglitch is a pretty good game though and Memories of a Broken Dimension looks interesting.

Pretty sure the game had a side view camera, not top down. Can't remember if it was a side scroller or used a flip-screen, but I think it was maybe the latter.

Antichamber? Doesn't really have the hacking, but has a very distinctive look to it.

Edit: Oh, missed the 2D bit.

I've had this one in my head for years now, so if I finally found the name it would be awesome.

  • Early DOS-era game
  • Elf in green 'link' outfit as main character
  • Underground digging game with drop-down physics
  • Collect hearts and gems, avoid stones

Heartlight.

I'm wondering about a post-apocalyptic 2D side scroller where you're a muscle bound dude. There were two game modes (levels?) to choose from: one was standard Double Dragon stuff with fists, kicks and weapons you could pick up, the other had your guy wielding a huge gun, walking around the inside of a base blowing everything up.

I think I played it on the Amiga.

After the War?

I'm searching a game I played years ago.
  • I'm almost sure it was a ps1 game. But maybe it was a ps2 game.
  • I played it at 2005 or before.
  • The main character was like a bug, it could shoot small electric bolts (I dont' remember if that was its main weapon).
  • I think it was a platformer.
  • There was a wild west level, where there were enemies who were cowboys, maybe they could shoot you, and cactuses.
  • There was also a lava level, and you were riding the lava with a flat rock, I think.

I'll try this again, maybe fresher eyes might recognize it

Used to play this as a kid on a TANDY laptop. You were a zookeeper (although you just looked like a naked bald man with lots of bumps on his head) that had to collect different gems to escape the level and these weird bipedal zoo creatures would take a life if you touched them. The main character might have been named Freddy and I remember you can fall from heights and die from fall damage.

It was not in color cause the TANDY laptop wasn't in color either and i'm guessing it was ASCII graphics.

EDIT: OH MY GOD I FOUND IT. It's called Freddy's Rescue Roundup (1983 Public Domain release) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clUz1Z_-MAA

Sounds like 'Bug!'

I remember playing a game that was probably a bond title, definately an fpd, and one of the first levels was in a snowy place.

i think it was a ps1 game. but maybe i remember wrong

Well, Goldeneye wasn't a PS1 game, but it was from the same era, was a Bond title (obviously) and had at least one snowy stage early in the game.

(Unfortunately, that was also the stage where the motion-sickness really kicked in for me and I had to give up or throw up)

I think this game was made by Swedes in the early 90's for Macintosh, based on the book The Wonderful Adventures of Nils by Selma Lagerlöf, a Swedish author - but all of this can be some crazy mix-up just because I remember a big goose. It was sort of an adventure game in black and white. One thing I can 100% recall is this boot house. That's pretty much it.

Thanks!

Not sure if one of the versions was black and white since I only know the color version but maybe it's Mixed-Up Mother Goose? Only thing I can think of that could be correct.

Here's the big boot in the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ12X3_7JAA#t=245
