I just can't wrap my head around some of the backlash. From what I can tell this is the beta with more levels, locations, abilities, loot, strikes, and endgame. What did people expect?

Its decent enough going solo but you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of the game if you play with other people.

You know, this is a trend I'm noticing with way too many games lately. All this always-online, barely there campaign-mode stuff is starting to bum me out.

The Metacritic reviews by users are hilarious. You know it's just blind hatred when you give a game like this a 0. I did mark the review that gave it a 4 as 'helpful' though even though I disagree with it since it at least seemed sincere.

Is there a way to view the ultra high fidelity character faces models after the initial creation screen?

More cohesion. Everything feels pretty disconnected to me.
I can't exactly put my finger on it, maybe all the screens / loading that is separating everything.

The combat is amazing so far just a few missions in!

Excuse me? Why are you so agressive towards a question about this game?

I have not bought this game yet because I am not sure if it's my kind of thing or not and I am interested in reading others views about it before I sink £55 on a game I may or may not even enjoy to the end.
Sorry if I came across as overly harsh. This was not aimed at you personally. Well, this forum context may make it look like it was, but this was not my intent.

I used to be a games reviewer. I have experienced my fair share of herd mentality, bash-everything attitude, the meh generation and bought and paid reviews.

I would compare the review effect to the placebo effect. Did you know that placebos work on patients even when they are clearly told that what they are eating are placebos? Heart stimulators "start working" before they are turned on. And knee surgeries seem to work even if the doctors make an incision and sow it up.

I am getting totally off-topic with this here, but here's a couple of ideas.
  • Blocking early Destiny reviews was a gamble that has paid off.
  • More people who partook in the beta are now willing to play the game and judge it on its own merits.
  • If the reviews pan the game - will we see people returning it to the stores, exchanging it for The Sims 4 perhaps?
  • If the reviews hit high marks, will people simply dismiss those?
  • Is there a difference in the end?

This game should be played NOT solo. it is as simple as that. the mission structures and overworld are far too bland. when I find myself having more fun messing around at the tower than the actual game, that tells me something. maybe more about me.

sigh

fucking wow.
They really should of included matchmaking for instances (bizarre decision) and/or in game text chat at least in the hub.

Anyway I just don't see what others are seeing here. Just seems like a high budget polished and sterile borderlands.

Sounds good. That is what I wanted more of after being given a taste that had me hooked. Looking forward to digging in later on.

Oh shit :( ... But but ... I thought the lore was the main attraction .... :(... So Traveller is just shit?

Not happy hearing these things.... Hype going down

Play it for yourself. I disagree with what that guy said. The single player stuff should really take a backseat to the co-op and MP content anyway. That said, I still really enjoy it.

This shit is some crack. Played for like 5 hours straight. Did some story coop then I did some pvp then I did a strike with randoms then I did some free roam and then I did some strike with gaffer.

Not gonna argue with the story criticisms. This is some weak sauce writing. It's like it thinks you're already fully invested and every line is some revelatory incredibleness. As far as mission structure, they're different enough I feel but relying on deploy Ghost -> hold position pretty much every time is super lazy. It leans more towards the loot game, hack n slash school of mission design rather than a typical shooter which is what most would have expected from Bungie.

Did their ai programmers all quit or what?

I am so baffled by this game. They threw out so many things that were awesome last gen and replaced it with nothing.

Checked again and Roni 00-55,the Vanguard Quartermaster at the Tower, thats suppose to have my pre-order stuff,doesn't...is this a known issue....?

Also does Fireteam friend only setting include GAFclan or just my Friend list...?

That's a way to go about it but it's still a giant hurdle instead of pressing enter and saying "hi". I have a feeling getting pre-mades will eventually be segregated the same way other games, for example NAZI Zombies in World at War, which is "mic or leave".

I guess the fact that I have no idea what you're talking about means you're probably right. :)

A better story, for me. Was kind of hoping that there was some content cut from the beta to avoid spoilering anything, but nope. Doesn't seem to be getting any better, either.

How long you gonna keep at this shit? It's getting tiring you come here at the OT and being negative as fuck like every fucking time.

Really enjoying the game, caught up to where I was in the Beta, just going to level up on the harder difficulties on Earth before tackling the rest of the Moon missions.

Also how many things does the Ghost in the Ghost Edition say? Mine says about 4 different things and has 2 different sound effects.

Why aren't there like, way more faces to choose from? Also, is there a barber?

From what I've seen so far there is almost no scripted sequences like shown here :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3FIVbfTdT0&t=8m57s

Can anyone confirm?

And also where are the turrets, tanks and Banshee equivalent?

when will people be able to give multiplayer stage demos without a bunch of horrible canned chatter? just show us what's in it, no "pretending to have fun". It falls so flat.

lol the PS+ code that came with the game didn't work...

haha same here didn't bother me that much as I'd already gotten a 12month playstation plus subscription.

Still anyone know the reason why the PS+ code that came with the game isn't working for some?

:-(

But on the other hand, I have classes today until ten at night, by which time I'm usually too exhausted to play so not a HUGE bummer I guess.

At least I actually am getting the Ghost Edition...

Updated impressions.

Sort of one third done with the Moon, just hit level 9.

My complaint regarding the free roam stuff was somewhat alleviated with the public events. These are pretty cool, but not that frequent. I just feel the open multiplayer is missing something, but I can't put my finger on it.

World still feels dead and lifeless, which is super sad, seeng everything looks absolutely incredible. I just wish there was more stuff to pick up, more stuff to do besides shooting respawning enemies or scouting. Some form of hunting mechanic, more gathering (professions?), crafting, wildlife - something to make the world feel more dense and alive.

Combat is still great, and it's pretty much saving the game for me right now. Super fun.

Sounds like you're describing a form of adventure mode like Diablo got. Get bounties to go kill X boss in the world for a reward. I like that concept, maybe down the line they'll consider it.

Is there something missing from the story or is it just not there, I remember from playing the beta that it felt like bits were missing, but even in the full game they just kind of gloss over things.

General game spoilers from the first two "planets". Earth for instance,
this whole Warmind thing, they want you to set up the satellite to connect to other planets, you do it, and then nothing, back into your ship no mention of it.
Then there is the Moon,
the little text says a guardian went missing up here, and then when you arrive your ghosts starts talking about it almost like there had been a previous mention of any of this, but nope, just like the Beta there seems to be a lack of actual story from doing anything before or after any missions so far.
It feels like I'm missing something or someone that should be explaining anything going on really.
