Only got about a half hour in last night. Working now. Looking forward to playing some more tonight.

You're in mah boat!!

Lol, same situation here. I set my alarm for 11:59 and spent enough time to create my character and get through the intro to the tower. I had to quit at that point and sleep because I had to work at 6:30 am. Now I am off in two hours and I am dying for more!!

Anyone up for The Summoning Pits? Haven't done it yet and not sure I'd like my first run to be with randoms lol.

The majority of the game is so well crafted, it's truly saddening to see how poor the story / lore is handled.

I have no problem re-doing story content on hard mode, or farming it again later...but at least making it compelling on the initial play through. Literally every mission is just dialogue and slogging through mobs to the inevitable boss fight.

Some of us listen to that. I found it very useful in a lot of games.

That is insane to me. This is literally the first user review I saw. I'll let you guess what the score was.

NO singleplayer offline is totally insane, how can I love the game without a clue what the story is! since i do not have friend to buy this, its so hard to enjoy it, bungie clearly has the ambition, but it's not a great online game, please make another halo-like game cause its your strong suit, and by the way, it's not even close to borderlands.

You trust an aggregation of reviews like this to determine whether or not you play the game?

I can't figure it out. If I'm a lower level and I kill someone who is a higher level because I fight a great battle I get really nothing for it. There is really no incentive to fight higher level enemies in Patrol.
man I am definitely looking at this differently than some.
I think everyone recognizes the same flaws. It' s just a matter of how big a deal they are to you personally.
Totally. I actually wouldn't say "love it or hate it" is a good summary at all, it's more about what's going to bother you and what aspects you value.

You guys. I just got a BITCHIN' deal for my copy of Destiny. A few days ago I found a deal with Target that gave my 20% off the game plus guaranteed $20 trade in value for Battlefield 4 PS3. That brought my total purchase down to just $30.

For $30, I get:

- The base game (brand new)
- A $5 Target Gift Card
- A free 6 pack of Coke Zero
- Pre-order Vanguard Armory DLC
- Bonus Legendary Blacksmith Shaders
- All the PlayStation exclusive DLC
- A free Destiny poster (Gamestop gave me one when I asked)

straight BITCHIN' value.

Downloading and installing as we speak.

Made a Warlock and got to lvl 6 co-op with a buddy.

Did everything in the beta already but still had a blast, I love the way the AI enemies behave, really makes the shoot-outs fun.

Enough for today, will play again tomorrownight.

Yeah it's stupid.

I think they were thinking that Patrol missions are more oriented towards getting your affinity up with the townsfolk, whereas actual missions are there for the bulk of the leveling.

My copy of Destiny shipped from gamefly today! I thought it would never happen! I live right by the shipping location as well so I should see it tomorrow.

Just a couple of screenshot I took, thought I'd post them here.

I recreated my Exo from the Beta. Meet EVA-01

How got their first rare weapon? Me! Unfortunately, I have to wait a couple more levels until I can equip it. But the bonus skill "This weapon can be fired in full auto" is great.

I understand where people are coming from with the story complaints but I really don't agree with the idea that it harms the game. Having some bombastic six-hour Halo-style campaign would be completely out of place in a game like this, to me. I really like that you're given lore rather than out-and-out narrative. Like the more you go through areas and see what sort of enemies are there, you're getting an idea about what happened to the place (alongside the admittedly blunt exposition from your Ghost). I'm really enjoying the way that the game hints at what's going on in its lore, and I think it's a good way of making the story of the game be about the state of the universe in general rather than the exploits of one individual.

Me too, man. Well put.

That is a really fantastic way to look at it. As a newly resurrected guardian you really don't know any more than the ghost tells you. You aren't in a story so much as you are creating it.

I still understand why some folks don/t like it but I am loving it.

I played the Alpha and Beta so I am really excited to get past those levels to see some new stuff.

First I have to get off work...

Yeah, Metacritic requires a grain or three of salt but it can still be a very useful tool. I still check it and it normally doesnt steer me too badly in the wrong direction.

However I will say that much like Rotten Tomatoes, it's completely useless the first week or two. Needs some time to settle down.

Most OP is probably going to be bladedancer, I think. They're basically just straight up DPS.

Most necessary is probably going to be a sunsinger warlock/denfender titan in equal parts. One handles cooldowns, the other can buff the party. Probably leaning slightly towards titan, not so much because of the skill trees themselves but just because there's probably going to be fewer titan players than warlocks.

I'd actually assumed there would be more Titans than anything else -- just look at the stats for how many people play generic soldier class on games like ME -- but that most of them won't go defender.

But then, since the character generator is always random, I guess there is no "default" class for people to just button mash through as the most common starter.

I gotta say, this is a touch harder than the beta as long as you're playing the missions for your current level. Much more strategy needed. It's way more fun now. The AI is actually very competent.

Don't think it's weird that your guardian wouldn't ask questions then? He is essentially an audience surrogate by design yet the plot takes no heed of this. It's baffling, especially when he does talk in cutscenes!

It's just plain bloody poorly written.

Back from work...now I have class :|.

A part of me wishes the beta took place on the Moon, that way the beginning would be exciting and not such a slog, especially because I decided to re-roll after I got to the tower. The unskippable cutscenes didn't help.

I think I've finally decided to go with voidwalker warlock, but striker titan looks pretty sexy too.

FULL AUTO SHOTGUN???

Based Destiny

I know I know... but there is a lot of games that have high review+user scores overall. It seems that this is one of those games that such high hype bring a lot of haters... It's going to be very annoying.

Swing over to /v/ and skim the catalog. They're losing their shit over there.

Not quite sure I get the story complaints. It's pretty easy to follow.

Stories were told to frighten children. People stopped telling those stories. The children are frightened anyway.

If that kind of writing doesn't win awards, I don't know what will.

Wow usually after a big release from a well-liked developer there's at least a week of honeymoon period before everyone gets hypercritical. Is the game really that bad? I was afraid it would be ultra repetitive after the beta and it seems like that's the case in the retail version. Disappointing if it's as repetitive and void of content as everyone is saying.

Please allow me to map consumables to the dpad or something. I don't really mind not being able to dance or wave during a public event or strike.

Woah metacritic is crushing this game:

http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/destiny/user-reviews

Is not a real issue.... Can't whait but I will be able to play this game in a week bacause i'm importing the Collector edtion -.-

Guess I hadn't been following the game that closely in previews, there's really no headset/mic functionality in the game? I would think that'd be par for the course for a game like this, and especially one from Bungie. Any plans on adding it in at some point?
