So what's the general consensus on this game? I'm hovering on whether to cancel my preorder... Sigh. A good bit of negative reactions to the Game and I'm too impressionable.

If you played the beta, expect it to be like the beta with just more content.

Otherwise, if you're someone who likes FPS games as well as multiplayer loot RPGs, then I would say give it a shot. Just know that it does have the repetition and flat story that those genres typically carry. It's all about shooting and making your character more powerful.

How in the fuck do you do the last boss in summoning pits

It took me and 2 random eons to beat it

The other 2 did not want to leave the area got so many deaths ; ;

Are there supposed to be 1 bajillion Wizards and Knights?

Did you play the beta? It's that, but of course the leash is off for the full game. If you enjoyed that, then you have nothing to fear. I am already hooked.

It hurts, guys.

I'm right there with you... :(

My mini review based on one day of playing:

+Amazing presentation
+Fun shooting mechanics
+Addicting as shit

+Bad/non-existent story
+No trading
+Stronger mobs are indestructible (WTF BUNGIE!)
+Minimal exp from normal fodder enemies = no need to ever engage them.

What's the frequency of public events? We have had 1 in 30 minutes standing in a zone to make sure it spawned. Public events need to happen wwwwwaaaayyyy more often.

I'm afraid that playing PvP will cause me over level for the PvE content. Is that a valid concern?

My understanding is you hit level 20 fairly quickly. I don't think you have to worry about this at all. Then again I have yet to get to play today so maybe someone else can give another opinion on the matter.

Did play the Alpha/Beta. And I did get bored towards the end of the Beta. Eh, I think I'll cancel it and give it a week for more nuanced thoughts on the Game. Thanks for the response.

The impressions I'm getting is that it's very big but also very empty and repetitive. People who enjoy the combat seem to think that's enough and are enjoying it but people looking for a decent story and some mission variety are feeling a little disappointed. I'm still on the fence as well but leaning towards not getting it, especially with all the other games releasing in the next few weeks.

The gunplay and firefights are fun.

But it looks pretty last gen, the levels are pretty bland and the encounters feel designed for more than one person.

Overall I think the MMO design was a bad choice.

I don't think it's bad. I like it because I replayed CE's campaign a lot years ago. There's a lot of that Halo feeling. The wide areas with multiple outposts and facilities to utilize. On The Moon (sorry) I have this Mass Effect 3 feeling. Where you utilize higher ground for combat. I think it's done real well for opening up the game. I don't think they did this with Halo on such a larger scale with the planets. The sniping level The Truth and The Silent Cartographer from CE comes to mind.

It's weird, I feel like all the pros are super nuanced and filled with detail about what they love about the game and the people who don't are just saying the same bullet points about repetitive missions, etc.

Unless I'm misunderstanding nuanced.

Wish you could tag your self in the friends list looking for strike or something. Would love to run strikes with gaffers without sending 50 messages.

I would argue the main problem is that the game doesn't lean enough in any direction. It just picks elements from the shooter genre, MMO, RPG, and such. However, it doesn't really excel at any of them. Yes, the combat is really good, but the encounters and levels just feel so meaningless. The bombast of Call of Duty has the spectable of finely tuned scripted levels, while RPGs feature deep storylines, ample character customization and gear. This has the bare minimum of everything, and it doesn't really work.

The first time I went through Old Russia, I didn't want to go to the cool looking places in the free roam, thinking there would be some cool story related stuff there in the missions and that I didn't want to ruin the experience.

But that never happened.

It amazes me how much work was put into these incredible vistas and locations, yet the missions and story elements themselves are more basic than even Diablo 3. Why not have some audio logs, NPC's - something - anything, just to give these worlds some depth or even context? Even running through a zone in World of Warcraft just oozes with adventure, mystery, a sense of discovery and history.

I think the best way to describe it is like I'm walking through the level in a level editor with all the scripting, NPC's and other elements turned off.

If the critics are expecting the game to actively lead them through an adventure, of course they'll be disappointed. The adventure is what they make of it, either solo or with friends.

For a game that is meant to be quite social, it feels very lonely. I've played the game for at least 10 hours since I bought it and I very rarely run into people out in the open. When you do, you can't talk to them unless they're in your party, and usually they are running off doing their own thing on a different mission. If you do happen to bump into someone doing the same mission, it's not long before they despawn out of your world as you enter an area thats more restricted. Oh and I've still not come across a public event.

The way Bungie talked about this game, it sounded like there'd always be someone over the hill, often coming across people trying to take down a tank, or defeat a huge swarm of enemies but I mean.. so far I've barely seen a reason as to why this gane couldn't be an offline experience.

Just like any other popular game. Seriously, it is a fine, working game with fun gameplay for ME. Not every game is for everybody but if you like Halo, Call of Duty, Borderlands or any other popular first person shooter then you will most likely enjoy Destiny.

Pretty much, Titanfall stands around a 6 too for user reviews.

Thoroughly enjoying this, doing some Crucible so I can get up the level 8 for the first strike. I like that spinmetal's easier to come by (almost impossible to find in the beta for me!), though more glimmer output would be nice.

Was strolling through the divide when I came across a level 4 and a level 6, and bam! Noble devil walker drops on us. That was awesome, public events popping up very frequently would not be a bad thing.

Damn thing got away by the skin of its teeth, damn it. My fault, had to waste a good minute and a half looking for ammo for my AR :x

ugh, constant slowdown and disconnections :E

might as well give up for tonight and try again later, servers must be hammered...

I didn't get those til I touched Crucible. Only had one so far....

If you ran into people constantly, then you'd have such short respawn times of enemies and it would be horrible. This way the game feels much less unexplored and more open to meet people. I met one guy and we shot at and hit each other and that was good. I didn't want to do the entire mission with 3 or 4 people in front of me.

I think it should of had offline mode like D3 on console, but who knows. I know it's easy to get into parties and maybe at random a larger enemy will spawn. By then I hope to be powerful enough to beat it solo.

Unskippable cutscenes is...

I don't even have words. They have it set to come back and redo missions on hard, help out friends, make another class and roll through these again, etc. but you have to watch that shit each time. That is the antithesis of multiplayer design.

This was my main concern. Just like the beta. Haven't played the full version yet myself, though.

Almost as if you are being punished for not playing with a fireteam. But then again it seems tedious to get into a fireteam in the first place?

So does anyone have a fix for why all the codes I entered didn't get me anything? No shaders, no emblems, no vanguard whatever.

I can never catch a break with this shit.

Go to your Notifications -> Downloads list. If the Vanguard thing is in there and says "Cannot Download", delete it.

Next, go to Settings -> PSN -> Restore Licenses. Do that.

Then highlight Destiny, and tab down to Related Items. If any DLC is listed here that says "Free" as a cost, you need to select it here to download it.

Once that is done, launch the game and you should have your stuff. Remember the Vanguard pack isn't free stuff in the mail, it's just access to some addt'l level 5 items from a vendor near where the ship vendor is. Everything else will be at the Special Orders NPC and Postmaster NPC.

Consider stocking up on some consumable ammo from the gunmaster in the tower for situations like that.

I have no idea if I missed something at the start. But I have zero clue what the story is in this game. Everytime the ghost talks to me im like wtf are you talking about.

To me in this context, I mean extended play and thoughts. More subtle thoughts on the game. Instead of the gut-1-day-reaction.
