So yeah.... Screw The Summoning Pits with randoms through matchmaking. It was fine til we got to the end boss, at which point things went to shit really fast. Communication alone would go a long way there lol...
Just cleared it with two randoms. It wasn't so bad. We each took a corner in the final room and lured the boss' fire while the other two fired at him. Have to watch out for the copious adds as well, of course.

I love people who play games for 3 hours, pass instant judgement on them, and return them.

Although I think Gamestop loves them even more since that has to be the easiest profit in the world for them.

Not even close other than its a FPS.
There's more to it than that. Obviously it's really definitely than Halo, but it still feels to me like "Bungie multiplayer" if that makes any sense.
For a game that is meant to be quite social, it feels very lonely. I've played the game for at least 10 hours since I bought it and I very rarely run into people out in the open. When you do, you can't talk to them unless they're in your party, and usually they are running off doing their own thing on a different mission. If you do happen to bump into someone doing the same mission, it's not long before they despawn out of your world as you enter an area thats more restricted. Oh and I've still not come across a public event.

The way Bungie talked about this game, it sounded like there'd always be someone over the hill, often coming across people trying to take down a tank, or defeat a huge swarm of enemies but I mean.. so far I've barely seen a reason as to why this gane couldn't be an offline experience.
Weird, I've actually seen a lot more people than I expected. But no public events for me yet either. I hope they bump up the frequency on those or something.

Destiny bundle finally arrived, time to enter next gen

That top review is incredible.

>Terrible game. Played it for a bit and it was pretty bland. Nothing like borderlands which at least had some humor. The planetary missions are short and the gear is generic and unintuitive. Day 1 return.

>10/10

What was the consensus for borderlands when it first launched? Didn't it take a while to become recognized?

I bought BL day one too and I didn't hear anything about it, but I was also not on GAF at that time.

The worlds are populated enough that you see a person every once in a while, but not so crowded that it interferes with your own experience. People are generally friendly. Too so that's a plus.

This was my biggest issue with the Beta. Hell, even that crazy expensive looking live-action trailer makes it seem like the type of game where you can talk to other players whenever you want. I don't have many friends that play games like I do so I never have parties or clans. And if I do I want to know them and speak to them before I invite them into a party so I know what I'm getting into. It's a very empty feeling game considering it's so multiplayer focused. Maybe that's why there hasn't been any online hitches.

I ran into one of these at like level 3 on the first or second Earth mission. A bunch of ships came in and dropped some machines that we had to try and kill the operating teams for. Failed quite badly as well, I don't think even the second machine was stopped.

I have no idea. People complain about everything they don't like. I'm just amazed someone was dumb enough to make a bad review and give the game a 10 anyway.

So is there just like...Team Slayer and the like in PvP? What modes are there? I know of Control from the BETA/ALPHA.

I opened up 3 other lists today, which were TDM, Rumble, & 3V3. I see no sign of the vehicle one...game really needs a CTF mode.

To people saying they don't have friends to play with, you're posting on the largest gaming forum there is, make friends here. I ran with an entire GAF group in PVP during the beta that I had never spoke to before prior, it's not that hard.

lolsauce at the criticisms being leveled in this thread. Game is almost impossibly better than I had expected coming out of the alpha/beta.

I know...it's so crazy that everyone doesn't agree with you. So weird.

Borderlands had a huge marketing push and positive press buzz pretty much as soon as they revealed the new art style. I remember it being a pretty hyped release.

I would argue the main problem is that the game doesn't lean enough in any direction. It just picks elements from the shooter genre, MMO, RPG, and such. However, it doesn't really excel at any of them. Yes, the combat is really good, but the encounters and levels just feel so meaningless. The bombast of Call of Duty has the spectable of finely tuned scripted levels, while RPGs feature deep storylines, ample character customization and gear. This has the bare minimum of everything, and it doesn't really work.

The first time I went through Old Russia, I didn't want to go to the cool looking places in the free roam, thinking there would be some cool story related stuff there in the missions and that I didn't want to ruin the experience.

But that never happened.

It amazes me how much work was put into these incredible vistas and locations, yet the missions and story elements themselves are more basic than even Diablo 3. Why not have some audio logs, NPC's - something - anything, just to give these worlds some depth or even context? Even running through a zone in World of Warcraft just oozes with adventure, mystery, a sense of discovery and history.

I think the best way to describe it is like I'm walking through the level in a level editor with all the scripting, NPC's and other elements turned off.
Great post.

So what's the general consensus on this game? I'm hovering on whether to cancel my preorder... Sigh. A good bit of negative reactions to the Game and I'm too impressionable.

umm, it is very samey (if that is even a word) you repeat a lot of the missions but with a different view, it is not social at all, not had one public event yet...

it reminds me of firefall on the PC, except that is a lot more social, I am enjoying it, but I am glad I did not buy the season pass version as I would be regretting it now....

I got mine from the Hong Kong store for £30 ($50) however after playing it all day if I owned the physical version I would complete the main story and sell on...

I wish the missions were different, and I would of loved the 3 characters to have a different starting area at least...

is it another game that can not live up to the mass hype, I would have to say yes, will be very surprised if we see more than 8/10 when the reviews hit, it is a perfect 7 for me

Other than the weapon balance changes and only 1 late spawning interceptor in pvp, I don't really see what you mean. I'm having fun with it, but it doesn't floor me or feel like something unique.

I don't understand the headset that comes with the PS4. Do I even need it if I set voice to speakers only? I suppose this thing is an earbud, but it doesn't actually fit in my ear. It's too big and round to stay in place. Also, where am I supposed to be talking into, the speaker on the controller?

I feel we're living an important moment in video-game history. It's the year publishers learn you can't focus your AAA game in the multiplayer-only component of your game.
I really can't see the game sell 10 million copies with this repetitiveness and lack of "cool moments" to talk about. It's just my fun little prediction, enjoy the game.

My Xbox hates Destiny.

Completely failed to load Skype and struggles with any other apps in the backround.

Had my first freeze today too. During Destiny play.

Going for a very belated birthday dinner imminently then will hopefully be on afterwards to play. I'll set my fire-team to open and see what happens. I'm still pitifully low level so I'll be running the Earth missions. Look for me in the stars!

... Or your friends list...

... Or the GAF group user list.
