How do you get the triple play trophy? I got 10 kills in a row I would have thought I killed a hunter, titan and a warlock.

I got it earlier in the day by pure luck. I play hunter and just got 3 kills in a row.

Getting 3 kills in one life isn't hard, it's just playing against another team that has all 3 classes that's hard to find. I had a crucible bounty that required me to kill 20 Titans. Somehow, it took almost 3 hours, just because for whatever reason, I wasn't playing against Titans. Just keep trying. Skill isn't a problem for you, so your odds are already up!

PvP tells you if friend are playing in a particular playlist. Awesome. But it doesn't tell you WHO is playing. And if you go to your roster and hover the cursor over your friends, it STILL doesn't tell you what they're doing in the game. It does, however, tell you that they're "Online Playing Destiny" in case you couldn't already tell by the fact that they appear above your friends who aren't playing Destiny in the roster. You have to select each friend from the roster, wait a few seconds as information loads, and -- finally -- you can see what they're playing. You have to do this for every person, though. There's no way to see what twenty of your friends are doing in the game at a glance. Instead it takes three steps (move cursor, select, go back) and a few seconds of waiting per person. This is SUCH bad UI design.

yeah. Not to mention that to invite people I need to click on 'invite to fireteam' and then it takes me to the PS invite screen which takes a bit to load, and then I have to click send. For every single person I want to invite.

So in the Beta there were 6 game types in the crucible, only 4 now?

The story (or lack thereof) is thoroughly confusing to me, although I think they might have been trying to take a cue from something like Dark Souls or any number of CRPGs - present a cryptic universe that is slowly filled out, should you care to, by reading material. Unfortunately shoving all the lore into the app and website on the grimoire cards is nowhere near as interesting or conducive to world-building as say, contextualized item descriptions or actual in-universe reading materials.

My major complaint outside of the loot being abysmal is that the world still feels "lacking" in interactivity. Going off the beaten path rewards you with empty spaces that have literally nothing, no NPCs, no loot - just empty space. I really want to like Destiny more than just a typical loot-run shooter, but I don't feel that invested in the story or world because there isn't much encouragement too enjoy it.

bungie's active roster in reach was perfect

After playing for a good ten or so hours over the past couple of days:

+I really like the PVE, for the most part. The mission design is repetitive but it's fun with friends and the environments are great, and the shooting is overall pretty satisfying.

+The art direction is gorgeous.

+The sound and overall atmosphere is great.

+The variety on offer is pretty decent.

+Exploration and traversal, while ultimately a bit shallow, is a lot of fun.

-Strikes are so bad. The bosses are abominable.

-PVP is a clusterfuck. The maps are incredibly boring both to look at and traverse, and the weapons seem wholly unbalanced. I understand that the level advantages are stripped in most modes, but I'm still getting put in matches with one or two level 19ish players who just completely dominate for the team they're on. Something just feels off about the whole thing.

-The weapon pool is piddly. Really, pathetically piddly. Taking away the different numbers for "different" guns, we have a really small variety of bog-standard shooter weapons.

-The social aspects are equally tiny. One tiny hub area for using four emotes in isn't exactly a lively lobby.

-The story is hot fucking nonsense.

I'm really interested in seeing what the critical consensus of this game is.

Very very accurate, only thing I would disagree with is the story. I have really gotten into the lore of the whole universe, so it makes it interesting at least, however I can see why others dislike it. Also, the music is fucking brilliant, Marty outdid himself this time!!

This is actually what perplexes me the most. Why does bungie think people, playing a video game, will go to the bungie app because they found a random object in said video game? It makes no sense and is just lazy.

Wow I did the Sword mission on the Moon at Level 6 all by myself!, wanted to test my reaction time and damn i survived the swarms princes scared to death jumping around like crazy shooting.

Clearly with a fire team this wouldnt be as chaotic but damn I was able to survive lol.

So me and a couple of friends did a bunch of earth missions. One of them we tried 3 times and failed each time but the last attempt: Devil slight spoiler we only had to kill one more of that robots legs but we died before we could kill it. See skipped that but did some moon missions. Oh man this game is so much fun especially when you play with friends

HOLY FUCKING SHIT

I'm Glimmer Chest Farming and the Chest Gave me a Mote of Light

WOW!

HOLY FUCK!

After playing this game for a few more hours now and having recently unlocked Mars..I have to say, I really think this game would have benefitted from being a traditional single player (with co-op) campaign. In a way, the open ended, 'social' experience almost feels a little shoehorned in. The only things you'd really be losing out on is:

Running into people randomly as you play, which mainly feels pointless anyway.

Public events, which I haven't even seen yet after 10-20 hours.

And the Tower, which outside of a random funny dance off, really doesn't need to be a social hub. I'd muvh prefer NPCs who I could actually talk to and learn more snippets about the world/lore from.

Back my point on how this should be a single player campaign. I'll start off by sayingthat the gameplay is solid, and the environments are beautiful to look at. Encounters are usually quite fun and there's a good variety of enemies. That's a really good base for the campaign. But cut out the crap from each planet with the repeated running through the same areas and excessive horde mode defense. Obviously the areas would be designed with a more focused experience so slightly less open, but with more to do. Have one or two traditional missions per planet, and skip the pain in the ass endless to and fro with orbit and painful load screens. Have a couple cutscenes to help pad out the story and add more context to things rather than just the odd line from ghost.

It's late and I'm about to go to bed so I probably haven't done a good job of getting my thoughts down on paper but ahh well.

yea, even if it's just one friend, it's 100x more fun than solo. don't play solo, it's boring as fuck.

Fuck I cannot stop playing this. I haven't been this in love with a game in ages.

Agreed. The story is really in the background and is just enough to make me feel like 'a guardian' and that is sufficient. The hook is the gameplay, encounters, leveling up and getting better gear. It's simply pure fun to play.

Some of the impressions I'm reading is disheartening. :(

Please tell me this won't go down as one of the most disappointing games of all time!

No, it's not THAT bad, but it was definitely over hyped. The gunplay is great, and the sound and art direction are fantastic. It's just that there isn't a whole lot else there. It's a loot game with very little loot, and what is there is very similar. The "story" is an absolute joke. It's MMO like, except with little exploration and little social interaction. The bare bones for a fantastic game is there, but this definitely isn't it.

I just don't understand how Bungie made a game with such a nonsensical story and bland PVP. I see Bungies UI, their sound design, their excellent gunplay.

If I had to level any criticism towards it, it would have to be that there are too many empty caves and rooms. I just feel that there needs to be a bit more loot in the empty spaces. Add more stuff, Bungie.

I agree. More random quests...loot..stuff..add more!!! I WANT to be rewarded for exploring!!

Story?

All I hear is a midget guiding me to stuff

The Speaker is clearly a "story" arc but

the action fun is what matters to me

The strangest thing about Destiny is the utter lack of interesting set pieces. I never would have expected that from the Halo guys.

If I'm playing devil's advocate, I think there's an argument to be made that an in-game codex would be counter to a lot of the design goals of the game. There already isn't a pause button, so staying in a menu for 10 minutes reading a thing isn't ideal. Also, they don't want people that are in fire teams or in shared zones standing still reading a thing.

That said, it should absolutely be somewhere in the game, whether in a pause screen or a Tower library terminal or whatever.

You bring up a good point. I actually think everything PvE right now in the game should have been it's own co-op set of stuff (these "story" missions feel like extended lore stuff rather than a real story anyway), and then there should have been a completely separate Halo-style progression single player campaign. It's not like the game is exactly over-packed with content as it is.

So is this Old Republic levels of hype and potential disappointment?

I had zero expectations going into the beta, zero out. So from my perspective, no. It's about as fun as warframe(with less loot, abilities and grinding) in the campaign, and it's a modestly fun pvp multiplayer that's about on par with Halo: Reach. Which isn't completely terrible, just not a unique experience.

However, the people who had their expectations through the roof and had them dashed might disagree with me.

Not at all, it's a great game and I would strongly recommend you to get it. After about 12 hours of play I do see some of it's flaws, but it really draws you in and keeps you invested in the world. I, like others, would have liked to see a more story-focused path, but then again I see what Bungie is trying to do and can't really complain. 'Crucible' (the pure multiplayer) is awesome and I like the transition between the MMO feeling and single player experience. As long as content is pushed out regularly and the community is there I can see myself playing this game for a very long time!
