This game is both terrible and awesome. It's so strange, but there are things I literally cannot stand and other things I'm drawn too. Mechanically, the game is a joy to play... It's just the enemy encounters that let the gameplay down.

About the mission variety, surely it could have been better but in the end it's still a shooter. You will be killing enemies over and over and over. Not sure what people expected?
A campaign that had the pacing, enemy encounter and design of a standard Halo game. Which was a reasonable expectation to make given the pedigree of the developers.
I would go as far to say that even as a shooter it sort of misses the mark because the weapon variety is a bit lackluster.
Playing with my lv 15 Warlock with my lv 6 friend. I'm getting better loot doing his quests....
The game got a lot more enjoyable now that I'm getting green weapons galore. I also unlocked The Sunsinger spec for my Warlock. That definitely adds variety.
Lol the people now saying "you should have expected this from the beta" Are probably the same who ssaid"it's only a beta" while we were giving criticisms
I actually consistently criticized the game since the beta, I've said far more negative about this game than positive, but it met my rock bottom expectations from the beta. I have to say, that you really should have expected this from the beta. I feel like the people who were saying "it's only a beta" are the ones that are wildly disappointed.
I know that's a joke but what happened to all that, "Destiny will be like the next Star Wars or Lord of the Rings level of mythology in pop culture," talk?

Apparently hitting level 15 once will unlock the subclasses on your account, so if you make a new Titan or Hunter you can just choose Defender or Bladedancer right away.
thought i'd only be able to see her in the trial of osiris mode, but alas there she was in the rumble playlist.
played one of my best matches on the burning shrine. already have a montage's worth of clips and i don't think i've hit 10 games yet.
not understanding all the "pvp feels off" comments. iron banner will probably be a disaster, but the gear and level differences barely make a difference. at least if you can carry your weight.
Played with some old friends for hours tonight. So good. I'm level 8 and have completed the first moon mission so I'm totally past the beta content. Can't wait to jump back in tomorrow for all the new stuff!

Damn man, really level 8 at the start of the Moon content? I rushed through the beta content so I could get to some new stuff, and ended up finishing the Moon Story content at level 7 on solo. I love this game's difficulty. I just wish you were given lives or something in solo to make up for the fact that nobody can revive you or allow you to be given that 30 sec timer. It suffers in that area in the same way Halo did when played solo. And the checkpoints aren't in the least bit forgiving.

I knew exactly what to expect from this based on my time with the alpha and beta so I am extremely happy with how the game turned out. Never before have I had enough time with a game to know precisely what it's flaws and strengths were before going in so I can just chill out and enjoy the ride. Even though I was very excited for the game, I never let my hype spin out of control or assume that all of the game's faults would be completely rectified in the final game.

Sorry to tell you this, but OT's also will have negativity, saying there's 'bitching like entitled children' is extremely dismissive to actual complaints people have on a game they might still like.
The withdrawal thread was a bunch of people, including myself I'm no saint, largely talking about random stuff and posting gifs as they laughed and were hyped for a game. If you want that atmosphere back I'm sad to say you're in the wrong thread, because OT's will expand on the community and not everybody playing the game has something nice to say 24/7. Valid criticism is more constructive than saying "frabjous" and posting gifs.
That's not my point at all. Negativity is perfectly acceptable in regards to constructive criticism, but it isn't somehow independent from being approachable and, generally, not acting like an asshat, for lack of a better term.
If someone doesn't have something nice to say that's perfectly valid, then by all means they should say it, but it shouldn't mean resorting to inflammatory remarks--admittedly a bit hypocritical of me to say--that do nothing but make someone sound like they're too angry to be at a keyboard right now.
You can still have a fun atmosphere while fostering valid, constructive criticism. If I've learned anything from four years being a
largely fanfiction related
story reviewer/editor, it's that you can still be critical and have fun
because otherwise you get shat on by the people you're trying to help (talking about writers here)
.
That's the "atmosphere" I'm talking about. Where'd the fun all go? Feels to me that it was zapped away underneath a lightning storm of disappointment that somehow felt as though no one had really seen coming in the way that it did.
You don't need dog gifs and stupidity and hype to still have fun as a community.
I apologize if my initial statement was, itself, inflammatory, but I was also a bit too irritated to be at a keyboard.
For now, I think I've explained myself as best I can. Hopefully, I don't come off as I did initially.

Yeah, it took some time, but I'm starting to feel that Diablo itch being scratched by this game. I think, guys, this game is made to be played with friends and other people. No lie. The game caters so well with playing with people regardless of their level.
Damn, I should have played more of the beta. So far, this game is really kind of boring, at least when playing alone. Still only a couple of hours in at level 4 and doing Old Russia missions, but the whole experience just feels really empty so far.
It's very pretty, the sound is great, and the setting is intriguing, but it feels like there's no meat on these bones. I really want to dig into the story, but you can't talk to any of the NPCs. They are either merchants with nothing to say or just decorations.
The actual missions so far seem to really lack variety. A bunch of linear corridors in dark dank dungeons with samey enemies and a boss or wave-based encounter at the end.
Not impressed so far, but the production values and polish are so high that I think I'll at least try to see this through to max level and hope it improves along the way.
Right now this sure doesn't seem like anything I would have expected from an epic multi-year project from Bungie.

Story and mission variety are the biggest issues by far but a large part of the fun in this game for me is the Patrols. I know that may sound crazy but I just love going out and exploring in this game. Something about it makes me constantly narrate the story of my Guardian in my head. Few games can get me to do that and it really adds to my investment in my character and the game's world.

Humans have emotions, when they get disappointed when they were extremely excited the fun community tends to go away at least for a bit. Once expectations and the initial negativity wave is out we'll have reviews starting to come and whether they're good or bad there will be discussion on it. There will still be loads of discussion of people having fun with the game. I don't expect the game to have nothing but Withdrawal thread fun discussion until those who are playing it for the sake of having nothing else to play move on. And that won't be until at the very least the next major game (say Call of Duty or Dragon Age).
I'm really enjoying the game but some things really stress me out. I'll continue to play it but it's largely due to the co-op working so well and my friends being fun people.
No it doesn't, the story is terrible and it's the same mission type over and over, go take ghost to computer, scan computer, kill waves of enemies, and go back to orbit.

I'm Really shocked to see people have come around now when the beta gave a pretty good idea of how (IMO) empty, barren, soulless, and tedious the game was. The game has some kind of "epic" essence to its world and universe, but it felt intentionally vague, and I did not think the full game's intent was to reveal that feeling. Does the story not get specific enough? I feel that it would be intentional if that's the case.
I know it's an annoying opinion to hear on a game you like, but the beta sealed the deal for me. No NPCs in the actual worlds, same enemies who appear dumb, tedious design, a transparent story, no interesting loot or places to explore (I remember finding a cave entrance and getting excited in the beta, which actually was just a hole with one enemy in it).
I played the PvP a lot more, which I knew was a problem for the PvE. PvP's balance was all wrong for me too, which was a huge disappointment coming off of Bungie's quality in Halo.
What were beta players expecting? Was there hope that the game would seriously open up in terms of design, NPCs, loot, etc?
Also, I don't mean to judge too harshly: is what we saw in the beta pretty much the whole game in terms of enemy design, gameplay design, mission design, weapons? I am really thinking this game is going to get a really critical discussion going, in a way similar to GTAIV.

I still stand by, no matter how good the game is... people were setting themselves up to not like it no matter what... like for example someone posted above they just hit level 4 and gave negative impressions... lol wtf. you haven't seen shit and just felt the need to get on and rag on the game? level 4? reall?

This is one of those rare games where every complaint I've seen has been valid and everyone seems to agree what the strengths and weaknesses are, but for some they can be a massive issue and for others, like me, relatively minor. I always find it fascinating when that happens.
