Destiny |OT2| The Last Guardians

I think if Bungie let you start off where you finished in the Beta a lot of the early impressions would be different. Having to get up to Lv 8 again where the beta left off gives you a grind/back track kind of feel, even though it's kind of unfair to look at it that way.

I'm having a lot of fun with it, It's the first game in a while where I'm counting down the hours at work so I can jump back in and explore. But those first few hours were definitely lacking because of my experience with the Beta.

They shouldn't have had an entire 1/4th of the game in the beta.

Really I thought Destiny was built for adventure/co-op and pvp was just an afterthought.

I'd be bored to tears if it wasn't for the PvP personally. Played the game with 2 friends earlier, blasted through the single player on earth and a bit of the moon on hard mode. Played some pvp and it was decent. It has balancing issues, but I'd much rather play this pvp than the next COD. Though I'd much rather be playing Halo: MCC than Destiny.

Ok, few words from me...

I've waited for this game since 2009, yes that's 5 years and I wanted something that will give me the same amount of fun as Halo and won't be Halo at the same time. Destiny has tons of Halo inside (I mean come on, it's a Bungie game) while being a different game at the same time. I played only 6-7hours so far - I've done some patrols, striked the Devils Lair twice with my buddy, explored The Moon with few GAFfers.

In terms of story, I haven't done anything beyond the Sword of Crota and still had tons of fun.

Hype was real, now the game is a fact and it's all I wanted. I'm hoping most of you feel the same as me :)

Cheers and luv GAF <3

I wasn't disappointed in you. Plenty of people who were regulars in the withdrawal thread got way too insulted over the opinions of others in a game they didn't make (not to say you are) . Honest to God I feel horrible for Bungie because this is a developer that tends to get nothing but love from the community of gamers (except for stuff like ODST/Reach isn't as good as the other games) so to go from a community that was largely positive to one with so much disappointment and relative backlash must be breaking their hearts as it's their first endeavor outside of Halo.

Lesson learned on advertisement and wording when describing your game I hope. No more Peter Molyneux hype.

Aye. Hopefully Bungie can pick up what they've learned from this launch and work to scale to the existing playerbase's expectations of how to make the game better.

And thanks for being understanding. This thread's just been giving me all kinds of headaches today.

It's the general pattern of OTs. There are some games like The Last of Us and Nintendo ones that were generally pretty light in tone, but look at the Resident Evil 6 OT or GTA V OT for similar situations.

Also keep in mind that without the usual review thread, people are going to be bringing more of that type of discussion and 'emotion' [for lack of a better word] here.

The first few days are the worse. Things settle out a bit, and then generally a couple weeks later you get the threads asking what went wrong while the OT is left to discuss F.A.Q. and late impression stuff, as well as wondering for ages when a bug will be fixed or this weapon will be nerfed.

I wouldn't get so frustrated about it given the circumstances. Just try and have the conversation you want to have, try and have some fun, maybe even take a break from the OT for that kind of stuff for a couple of days and just talk on the clan/group pages on bungie.net or in-game. Then try to get some fun going later.

I think there is a good way and a bad why to handle criticism. For instance calling the game a criminal offense is not only inaccurate, but incorrect use of the English language^^ But I think it is healthy to let known your issues with the game so that Bungie can work on them, be it for DLC or the Sequel. And on the other side I do understand your feelings in particular for the light hearted and fun side of the Withdrawel thread. Do not worry, by OT 4 all the haters or those who were genuinely disappointed will have moved on and the only ones left will be those who want to talk about the good and the bad in constructive manner^^

I suppose so. Hopefully whatever's left of DGAF after this blows over is still relatively active. That's the thing I'm fearing the most at this point.

I'm in love with this game, I understand the complaints, but to be honest nothing has really bothered me so far. The story is pretty damn crappy though, but I'm having a blast.

This is why Bungie should've hired me to write their story. I keep tellin' 'em, but they won't listen.

With all the hype surrounding this game I feel like I need to give it a try but I'm yet to see a single video/clip of gameplay that excites me.

My copy should arrive today and at the moment im toying with whether I should just send it back unopened.

I love Halo, it's my favourite FPS behind Quake 3 and UT, so part of me feels like I should give the next Bungie game a go.
Reading criticisms in this thread makes me think that this game just isn't going to be for me which is a shame because I really want something new to play at the moment.

Reading some of the Criticism here makes me wonder. Dis some people expect an Elder Scrolls Title?
No interesting NPCs? This game is made for cooperative gameplay.
Barren landscape? I think the Levels look pretty decent, what else should there be in a hostile environment except enemies?
Missions are boring? I was playing Coop with two guys yesterday and wasn't bored when we took on that massive Spider-Tank. But What were you expecting from a shooter? They usually consist of "go there, kill that" or "go there, protect that, while killing this and that" Halo wasn't different either.

This game is no RPG and no Action Adventure. Its a Cooperative multiplayer online shooter with shared world and exploration.

How does level/equipment affect crucible? My paltry lvl. 5 shotgun is taking at least two point blank shots to kill and does almost nothing past that, whereas a lvl. 17 player was wreaking havoc from like 5-10 metre range with one shot kills.

Wow, who though it was a good idea to have this much health on bosses? And have captains spawn non-stop? Focus on the encounter Bungie, and remember to keep it fun. Jesus. This shit is like pulling teeth.

Ended the day at level 13 and everything rare but my primary weapon and gauntlets.

Got really lucky with RNG on an engram and the rewards after the moon/venus strikes.

Game is great so far.

From a standpoint of someone who was going to play this game solo, I'm glad I waited, judging by the impressions here. I might buy it when it's a whole lot cheaper (or has a lot more content for the same price) just because I love loot but I'll have my expectations firmly in check.

Strike on the moon boss was super difficult. I feel like I needed a different weapon damage type or something. Shooting boss in head didn't do crits either.

Thinking of delaying my purchase for a week or two to see if the hype train dies. If my friends list seems to be staying with Destiny then I'll purchase. If not I'll just forget about it like I did with Titanfall.

This game can't get its hooks out of me. I finally convince myself to go to bed and here I am looking at my Grimoire cards on the app.

I'm enjoying the game so far... It has a nice feel however i share the same sentiments as many here, i am an avid MMO player so the monotony isn't terrible for me.

Strike Boss/Events ? Seriously? Moon Strike mission phogoth was just a massive pain the butt...They're massive bullet sponges and they also do insane damage to you not to mention the 1001 adds that are spawning and coming at you...

PVP is weak...very weak... i was expecting/hoping for bigger maps. Shotgun is way Overpowered in PVP but i suppose it makes sense since it is an up close and personal weapon.

Loot isnt very diverse... i typically find myself getting a little something something here and there so i havnt had too much difficulty with gearing however it just lacks the borderlands feel that everyone was constantly yelling about. ( i know its not meant to be borderlands.)

All in all Destiny is an okay game..., But it kind of matched my expectations.. It's just a normal game.. Nothing special about it, and nothing that is exactly impressive other than the graphics..., I do enjoy the music in some places though.

Now....Here comes the big one... Seriously Bungie? You say it's us who make the game... However every time i've been to the Tower hardly anyone is every there... i may see up to 8-10 people if not around that. Pretty daggum barren if you ask me..., Not to mention the game has extremely little "Social" Interaction...The only interaction i've had so far in game is strike missions..., and even then without voice and all that ( Not saying i couldnt have created a party for it. ) the game just makes me yawn, somethings are extremely tedious and dull...

That speeder though... Massive thumbs up from me for that, absolutely love using that thing...

Hopefully bungie may patch features in which would certainly be nice.. My warlock is lvl 17 so far, like i said im enjoyingf the game but i dont find myself enthralled with the story at all..., The gameplay is alright... But i want to say everything else is okay to mediocre...

I seem to do much better in PvP when I just walk around and really anticipate the enemy. Running around like a headless chicken seems to take me nowhere most of the time.

Lag is a bitch though. There's so much randomness from time to time that it's hard to distinguish what really happens. Kill-trades, delayed kills, teleportation and so on.

And I'm quite skeptical about the easiness of getting your Super. Especially if you're close to your team, picking up their orbs. In some games I've been killed by Supers like 4-5 times in a row. It's boring and cheap as hell.

Guys some help please?

I pre ordered Destiny Guardian Edition from the PSN store, but now when I went to finally download the game on PSN it shows the Guardian Edition available for purchase and the regular edition of the game as the version I own.

I checked the e-mail I received when I preordered and I confirmed it is the Guardian Edition and $89.99 dollars were deducted from my account.

What should I do? I'm afraid I won't be able to download the expansions when they are released.

Besides the expansions what am I losing since PSN seems to think I own the regular edition of the game?

I had the same problem last night. Go to your library on your PS4, then click on Destiny and once you scroll to the bottom click on Related Items, in there you'll see the expansion, vanguard, and collectors edition pack as free downloads. Just install all of those and your good. Oh and make sure to restart the game after you do that.

People expect a stroy incentive, more reason why you kill that spider tank. More emotional investment. Halo could do this, I don't know why we shouldn't expect the same from destiny.

Has anyone finished the story yet? Is there more to it / Will it pick up later?

Shooting is fun though...

Not gonna lie, this game makes me want to play Diablo 3.

I'll be the first to admit I'm glad I didn't pay 60 bucks for this game. Destiny is a fun game, but I do think the advertising oversold it.

Eh, I'll see where I'm at in a week playing this game. A part of me thinks I'll probably put this down eventually for more Diablo 3.

Your posts sound like you really want to just play D3! Since my copy didn't arrive, that's what I'll be doing all night anyways

The PvP is total garbage. Spawning with shotguns or snipers is so stupid.

the game is literally about gear and what you have vs what players and enemies have. pvp would be boring and bland if it resembled halo's "even starts". they'd have to normalize the classes too, and at that point you may as well be playing a different game.

I don't have the game but to the folks that say the game is light on content, didn't Activision announce 2 expansion packs before the game even came out? Dropping in December no less, a couple months after release?

Seemed like the writing was on the wall.

Except most of the PVP modes are normalized.

OK, I finally learned how to play Hunter properly. I was so frustrated with Golden Gun, I wanted to go with Warlock or Titan because of much better Supers.

But, I finally realized what my mistake with GG was: I was aiming down the sights with it.

For some obscure reason, I can't hit shit when I aim down sight with GG. BUT, when I fire from the hip, I'm a fucking Sogeking (Onepiece fans will know). I hit people left and right, even on the far ends of the Moon map.

Crazy, Hunter is my favorite class now!

so now that I have over a handful of hours put into destiny - which I have enjoyed - I applaud Bungie for almost exactly remaking the original Phantasy Star Online for the new generation.

Though I'm a little surprised Sega didn't tell everyone that they worked with them on it. Activision did a bang up job making something old seem new again.

If only I could plug In a keyboard like I could back in 2001 to chat in the hubworld, the game would have all the same features ad its predecesor.

Still, I'm enjoying it since its been like 14 years since the last one.

I'm going to pretend your list is in a numerical format. Also I'd like to point out that your whole argument is extremely silly.

1. Interesting NPC's =/= Elder Scrolls or rpg's if that's what you're implying. Plenty of other games can have interesting NPC's. An MMO/multplayer game can still have interesting characters. Heck Borderlands, personal opinions on their humor aside, had plenty of interesting side characters that make up the universe, even a villain in Borderlands 2 that was decently well loved. They still had you meeting NPC's for missions. So far all of the NPC's I've met in this game are

a. The Ghost, which is quirky enough but he won't carry the whole game.
b. The Speaker, who doesn't really stand out outside of visuals.
c. A bunch of vendors who speak 3 words to you with no personality whatsoever.

2. Besides the direct enemies you fight you could have wildlife, npcs, etc... plenty of games have done this. Even the Tower feels barren and that's supposed to be the hub world. It lacks life.

3. Missions follow the same formula, to the tee, so far and from what I hear that doesn't change much. If you're enjoying the combat and the co-op aspects that doesn't excuse doing the same thing for each mission in terms of set-up and structure. Not every shooter is like this.

I am having a blast with Destiny!

I played the Beta and got a pretty good idea of what the actual game will feel/play like etc...but then I got worried a little. Same weapons and gear all the time and loot drops kinda rare in general.

This was all still on earth. Now I've played the first 2 moon missions (missed out on the moon while beta was going on) And played a bunch of PvP too. I am now at level 19 (almost 20) and guys....it gets better.

Loot drops every few minuted and NO WHITE items anymore. Green is minimum.
Got some blue gear and weapons now too which is way better of course and also visually it's just SO MUCH better omg. Also it may sound stupid but it is SO much more rewarding to get a nice weapon or some gear that has some kind of name and has a big skil tree to level up. All those Darius-C, Shingen-C etc. weapons are just the beginning so don't be fooled.

The only thing I fear is that Bungie "lied" about the meat of the game starting after level 20..

If we really have to do just the same missions and striked with modifiers over and over it will get boring no doubt. But who knows for sure what they have in store?
There are still whole areas we can't access (like I said though I've only been to earth and moon first 2 missions) so Im hoping this is where the "meat" is.

Also Raid should be really fucking fun.

All in all I'm loving it so far because I'm having FUN. I don't need people telling me HOW amazing it is or maybe how bad it is. I play it and if I don't like it IDGAF. But I do like it. Alot!

So here's my level 19 Warlock (look at the twitter pic, much more detailed than the bungie.net character view. Also some of my gear is different but overall I'm loving how my Warlock looks, so badass yo ulll.

Im having a great time with the game, but from the Alpha and Beta i already knew this was my kinda game.

Have been playing mostly solo so far because i want to enjoy the campaign and not have to feel like im slowing people down because i take detours to look at stuff. Just did my first mission on Venus last night before i went to bed and I was grinning like a fool at the end.

I like the story, i like the voice work, i like the combat, i like the atmosphere.

Did the earth strike with my brothers and even though we did it a ton of times in the Beta i STILL had fun.

It feels a little harder maybe (until i got some sweet loot) and it seems like the leveling is slowed down a bit. But it feels right, if im not leveled enough for the nest story I will just jump into the Patrol mode and look around.

Have not touched the PvP yet. I enjoyed it in the Alpha/Beta but PvE has always been my cup of tea.

Being a long time Halo fan I guess im the perfect audience for this game. But thats ok with me, Ive gotten what i wanted. Sorry to hear that others havent.

My main problem with the game atm. I love most of it, and the boss fights are usually pretty tense, but damn the letdown when you don't get any instant loot :(

Yeah that is a serious issue. You see people saying, "What did you expect from the game?! It's just a loot game!" Disregarding the ridiculousness of that, and even if that does excuse all other issues of the game, where's the loot?

Except most of the PVP modes are normalized.

and that's why it works (when it isn't lagging). the kill times are so quick that the difference from player to player encounters barely matters. at least, i hardly notice it. 9/10 if I die it's because i missed my shots or made a poor decision.

since the alpha, i have yet to see a compelling argument against destiny's pvp on a fundamental level. not that it's perfect (again, the kill delay is horrid and i'm baffled it wasn't fixed), but the "garbage" comments just come across as misinformed hyperbole to me at this point.

Definitely. It's pretty surprising looking back now that we know how much planets etc are in the final game.

I seem to remember a Bungie spokesman dodging questions about content on these boards during the beta.

Then justifying no review copies in a long post that acted like this game was an MMO.

Yeah...

this was one of the biggest concerns after both the alpha and the beta and it doesn't seem like much has changed. i wonder if it's possible for them to update the weighting with patches.

So do weapon levels matter in multiplayer?

Some people clearly have an advantage with what weapons they've unlocked. That's my only problem. It may seem like shields matter too because some of my weapons don't do damage all the same way.Otherwise, great fun modes. Not doing too bad myself either on FFA.
