That's not my point at all. Negativity is perfectly acceptable in regards to constructive criticism, but it isn't somehow independent from being approachable and, generally, not acting like an asshat, for lack of a better term.

If someone doesn't have something nice to say that's perfectly valid, then by all means they should say it, but it shouldn't mean resorting to inflammatory remarks--admittedly a bit hypocritical of me to say--that do nothing but make someone sound like they're too angry to be at a keyboard right now.

You can still have a fun atmosphere while fostering valid, constructive criticism. If I've learned anything from four years being a
largely fanfiction related
story reviewer/editor, it's that you can still be critical and have fun
because otherwise you get shat on by the people you're trying to help (talking about writers here)
.

That's the "atmosphere" I'm talking about. Where'd the fun all go? Feels to me that it was zapped away underneath a lightning storm of disappointment that somehow felt as though no one had really seen coming in the way that it did.

You don't need dog gifs and stupidity and hype to still have fun as a community.

I apologize if my initial statement was, itself, inflammatory, but I was also a bit too irritated to be at a keyboard.

For now, I think I've explained myself as best I can. Hopefully, I don't come off as I did initially.
I think there is a good way and a bad why to handle criticism. For instance calling the game a criminal offense is not only inaccurate, but incorrect use of the English language^^ But I think it is healthy to let known your issues with the game so that Bungie can work on them, be it for DLC or the Sequel. And on the other side I do understand your feelings in particular for the light hearted and fun side of the Withdrawel thread. Do not worry, by OT 4 all the haters or those who were genuinely disappointed will have moved on and the only ones left will be those who want to talk about the good and the bad in constructive manner^^

At this point I think it's probably more apt to compare this to Warframe than Halo in terms of the way the "campaign" is structured.

Yeah I went there.

I've heard that several times already. The question is, does it compare favorably?

I wasn't particularly impressed by the beta, and I didn't expect the full game to be much better, but there was still a glimmer of stupid hope. It's gone now, I'm glad I waited.

No it doesn't, the story is terrible and it's the same mission type over and over, go take ghost to computer, scan computer, kill waves of enemies, and go back to orbit.

It does get better, and its a loot game. What do you want

The game is what I expected.

I also expected it would suck a bit, like Diablo 3 when it first came out.

Not really disappointed because I know I'll be having fun now. Will have even more fun when Bungie tweaks with the settings.

I'm guessing they fucked up with the balance while figuring out how many players will be playing. Shouldn't take them long to make it better.

What's a good way to farm Glimmer? I went to the Rocketyard and used that method that worked in the Beta, but it isn't nearly as fruitful as before.

You can use them too, the PVP is actually pretty well balanced considering how much of a shit show it should be. I'd stick to control and 3v3 personally.
I just got 3v3 and am enjoying it the best so far. It's funny, I liked the PvP pretty well in the beta, but after seeing so much Halo MCC footage, I'm feeling a lot less tolerant with Destiny's imbalanced style.

This is one of those rare games where every complaint I've seen has been valid and everyone seems to agree what the strengths and weaknesses are, but for some they can be a massive issue and for others, like me, relatively minor. I always find it fascinating when that happens.

Yeah I have a lot of issues with the game. Yet I can't see myself just dropping it and never playing it again especially if new content is introduced. And if Destiny 2 came out I'd probably buy it if they promised the righ things without a second though.

Looks like it's a solid idea and gameplay, just the execution wasn't to perfection.

What's the point of engrams? Why doesn't it just give me gear? Having to pull myself out of PvP to get my item is kinda annoying.

There's a benefit to getting engrams at least: Whenever you turn them in you get cryptarch rep. The higher your cryptarch rep, the better stuff you can buy from him.

Well I always maintain the mindset it will never be as competitive or balanced as the old Halo. Nice diversion in the mean time.

Humans have emotions, when they get disappointed when they were extremely excited the fun community tends to go away at least for a bit. Once expectations and the initial negativity wave is out we'll have reviews starting to come and whether they're good or bad there will be discussion on it. There will still be loads of discussion of people having fun with the game. I don't expect the game to have nothing but Withdrawal thread fun discussion until those who are playing it for the sake of having nothing else to play move on. And that won't be until at the very least the next major game (say Call of Duty or Dragon Age).

I'm really enjoying the game but some things really stress me out. I'll continue to play it but it's largely due to the co-op working so well and my friends being fun people.

I suppose it's my over-developed sense of optimism and idealism. Strange part is, it's not some disappointing facet that gets me down on something, but rather how other people react to it themselves. I'm just a bit tired of all the adjectives being thrown around like they were going out of style.

I hope my response was a bit better than how you would've expected me to respond, though we may not know each other well enough for that (though you'd be surprised how conditioned people get to expecting a certain response, even from total strangers).

I'm no saint either, but I'd hope people would calmly opine rather than caustically spit out their thoughts.

I think its sort of like gambling, you pay a currency to roll on a unknown item. It might be good or it might be poo.

If that's the way this thread is going to behave, I'll go discuss this game somewhere else.

I as well as many other posters have said what we think of the game so far in this thread and as far as it seems a majority of people are thinking it was a let down compared to the hype this game garnered and the way Bungie presented it. Maybe I was a bit rash but I stand by the fact that the missions are repetitive and the story is nonexistent. I'm enjoying playing with my friends but this is definitely not a game changer that everyone thought it would be, and to me the game just feels hollow and empty like they were trying for too much.

Just finished playing for the night at level 8. My brain is fried. Game is pretty good so far.

Most satisfactory moment: getting a full set of armor that's stats-wise good and fashionable. Strutting in the Tower with my bulky red-white Titan armor got all the female Awokens wet.

This is the most fun I have had with a video game all year. The amount of multiplayer activities to engage in is so refreshing and just a blast with friends. I can't wait to get back into it tomorrow!

I'd like to see these people review an MMO without hitting the endgame.

That doesn't make any sense to me. Come on man, you're still not even past the beta content.

Alot of people speaking are past the beta content.

I'll put mission details in spoilers for convenience-
Sadly, the mission variation doesn't change. The highlight is the Sword of Corta mission, however up until Venus it's still the same mission. Ghost scans some things, you fight hordes of enemies, mission ends. I'm worried that Kings Watch/Seraphim Vault aren't in the game, unless they have you revisit Earth. It seems that there was alot of cut content for the expansions, especially since people have datamined loot from the expansions already.

I'm disappointed in the amount of loot drops, but I hope it'll get better at level 20. So far, in the past 8 hours played? I've had.....15-20 pieces of green loot drop. Too many whites too count. It's definitely still a fun game, but I think alot of people are saddened because they expected more. I definitely did.

It's the general pattern of OTs. There are some games like The Last of Us and Nintendo ones that were generally pretty light in tone, but look at the Resident Evil 6 OT or GTA V OT for similar situations.

Also keep in mind that without the usual review thread, people are going to be bringing more of that type of discussion and 'emotion' [for lack of a better word] here.

The first few days are the worse. Things settle out a bit, and then generally a couple weeks later you get the threads asking what went wrong while the OT is left to discuss F.A.Q. and late impression stuff, as well as wondering for ages when a bug will be fixed or this weapon will be nerfed.

I wouldn't get so frustrated about it given the circumstances. Just try and have the conversation you want to have, try and have some fun, maybe even take a break from the OT for that kind of stuff for a couple of days and just talk on the clan/group pages on bungie.net or in-game. Then try to get some fun going later.

I wasn't disappointed in you. Plenty of people who were regulars in the withdrawal thread got way too insulted over the opinions of others in a game they didn't make (not to say you are) . Honest to God I feel horrible for Bungie because this is a developer that tends to get nothing but love from the community of gamers (except for stuff like ODST/Reach isn't as good as the other games) so to go from a community that was largely positive to one with so much disappointment and relative backlash must be breaking their hearts as it's their first endeavor outside of Halo.

Lesson learned on advertisement and wording when describing your game I hope. No more Peter Molyneux hype.

So I'm tired but I'll compile my thoughts into this one post. This thread goes by so fast but I'd like some feedback.

+The game caters toward playing with friends. You can be level 15 and play with a level 3 on his mission. It's even more fun if they pick hard mode. Your weapons get scaled down if they do that. Either way, everyone gets gear up to their level. This is already better than Borderlands.

+The level design is gorgeous. I've only been to Earth and the Moon, and the Moon grows into something sinister yet beautiful like an H.R. Giger piece of art.

+For a game based on loot, the loot doesn't seem to pour in until past level 10 where vendors start selling more greens. I'm at 15 and I'm just now getting some variety even in my Warlock's specs. Diablo 3 has you get your basic powers as well as runes, so you're constantly unlocking stuff as you level up. With Destiny, the same thing happens but far lower key with less customization at the moment. I think we'll have far more choices once we hit 20, but I don't think we should have to grind that long to do so considering this isn't a MMO at all. Diablo 3 gets into its gameplay loop with gaining loot all the time soon after Act 1 begins.

+The missions are all the same and it wears on me when I play alone. However, after getting more rewards (loot and a new whole spec entirely), it gives me a reason to continue. Also, I like to keep the story going to see where it takes me. Again, the game is gorgeous.

+I don't think this game is worth 60 bucks. Not trying to sound like an entitled gamer, but there are games that are cheaper that do more than this. Destiny isn't bad, but so far, it kinda lacks in comparison to other games. It's better than its direct competitors though. The game smokes Borderlands.

+The bosses so far have only been bigger versions of enemies with a different texture. The fights have been intense, however, mainly because you're put in crazy situations to fight them. So far, I've fought a giant orb, giant knight, and a giant ogre. The same tactics to kill their normal forms apply to these bosses. It's not creative, but it's fun when you're being chased by Thrall while a the ogre is firing a laser at you.

"We're aware of issues with playing Destiny on college campuses. Stay tuned for information to share with your local network admins."

From Bungie's twitter. I know a couple of folks before could not play because of this. Hope it get resolved soon...

Wow, this game is polished to all hell and just a damn fun shooter. The combat is very satisfying. I am so glad there are plenty of "real bullet" guns. I absolutely hate laser blasty garbage. The more "real bullet" like the guns there are, the better imo. Halo never clicked with me but the combat in Destiny is awesome so far. This game has to be played co-op. I played all of the missions after getting to the Tower co-op, up until level 7. After my friend left, I decided to do a patrol mission solo. Not even the same game. The way the AI behaves, the feel of a fire fight, all of it is better in co-op. Can't wait to have a full 3 player fire team.

Uh, yeah so I dipped in to a little competitive multiplayer, just Control Mode or whatever the default is. What an absolute piece of shit. This may be the old man in me sneaking up, but this kind of multiplayer is awful. It was jut endless jumping around, no clear indication of why you are dying, what you should do better or why you should even bother. It is just an orgy of nothingness. Kills, captures, assists, they all felt arbitrary as fuck. I have been put off by the competitive modes in shooters for several years now, but I remember enjoying COD4 and MW2, but this just feels insulting so far. I only tried it so I could clear a crucible bounty but I will never touch this horrid mode again. Co-op ftw.

I think if Bungie let you start off where you finished in the Beta a lot of the early impressions would be different. Having to get up to Lv 8 again where the beta left off gives you a grind/back track kind of feel, even though it's kind of unfair to look at it that way.

I'm having a lot of fun with it, It's the first game in a while where I'm counting down the hours at work so I can jump back in and explore. But those first few hours were definitely lacking because of my experience with the Beta.

I'm in love with this game, I understand the complaints, but to be honest nothing has really bothered me so far. The story is pretty damn crappy though, but I'm having a blast.

End of day one.

Took today off to play. Really glad I did.

Where can I use my glimmer? Other then what the class vanguard supplies. I've got all the gear from that person already and have 1500 glimmer doing nothing.

Guys some help please?

I pre ordered Destiny Guardian Edition from the PSN store, but now when I went to finally download the game on PSN it shows the Guardian Edition available for purchase and the regular edition of the game as the version I own.

I checked the e-mail I received when I preordered and I confirmed it is the Guardian Edition and $89.99 dollars were deducted from my account.

What should I do? I'm afraid I won't be able to download the expansions when they are released.

Besides the expansions what am I losing since PSN seems to think I own the regular edition of the game?

Playing PVP in a party is just too damn good, I feel bad for the people not enjoying this. :p

It may not have that trademark Halo balance, but there are plenty of the same "oh shit!" Moments, where you get a string of whacky kills and everything just feels like it's falling in place.
