Destiny |OT2| The Last Guardians

Had a firefight on the moon earlier that made Halo look like junk. The AI is scary good at times. They rush, they flank, they circle you and come back when you're hurting.

It has the pure refined DNA of Halo in the minute to minute gameplay.

It just doesn't feel that way for me. The minute-to-minute gameplay for me boils down to "shoot a guy in the head until my clip is empty, take cover and reload, then go scrounge for more universal ammo packs because I'm already low". If the enemies are really giving me a hard time, it just means spending lots of time waiting in cover while my shields recharge or running a relay race between the few viable cover points.

The OTs were rollercoaster rides.

"can't wait" "I envy you guys" "package hasn't arrived"
to

"This game is always the same thing"
"Is there anything else to do than to shoot robots ?"
" I traded it in "
"You're a troll if you don't like this game"

The people who loved the beta pretty much are the ones who love it now. The second group is primarily new posters. The DGAF regulars are playing the game. We,ve been on most of the day. ;)

I don't know why this is. Are you playing on hard?

The minute to minute stuff is superb, it's one of the things they actually nailed.

Eh.

Plwnty of ppl who played the beta and are disappointed in what the full game offers, and lacks.

Nothing wrong with playing on hard. I only play the game on hard, normal diff is not much of a challenge otherwise.

Yup, I was surprised how large quickly the thread got (as well as the review delay thread), considering most of the gaffers on my friends list were actively pouring in hours. I log in to see those less than impressed with what they've experienced spend an unhealthy amount of time trying to explain WHY we shouldn't be enjoying the game and how we're falling for marketing ploys.
Pretty sure dissenting opinions are allowed. I don't believe this game will review as well as expected. The team over at GiantBomb seemed to imply it was supremely mediocre.

That's not even true. A lot of people who liked the beta expected more from the main game. I think any general blanket statements may fall into the assumptions trap.

Enemies go down like weeds if you headshot them. Emptying clips? Doesn't match my experience at all. Change your sensitivity? Practice more?

We were laughing earlier in game that on e you get the touch, they fall like dominoes! LOL

I'm currently level 21. The grind is unbelievable. You're capped at 100 marks per week, and some weapons require 160 marks, not to mention armour. Heroics are giving me 2 marks a pop, and take forever. Bosses are just 30 minute bullet sponges.

The grind is very much real. Not only do you have to farm marks, but you need reputation on top of that.

It's like bungie never learns about caps in their games, reach credit caps and now leveling caps on a WEEK basis? no.gif

I've seen call someone else a troll in here already today, cut that shit out "sir". If you can't discuss the problems with the game without calling people trolls then take a step back.

And yeh 6 strikes and 1 raid is pretty short on content by the sounds of it, and people have got to max level and finished the story in 15 hours. Not really what I was expecting from a possible GOTY and I ain't paying to to fill out the game with more content down the line.

Maybe what you view as problems, other people don't also view as problems...hm? You should remind yourself that this is all your own opinion.

Who said that? Bungie? Or gaming journalists?

Go to google.com, type in Destiny E3 and go to news. There are tens of blog posts with insane article titles and talk of how it will be the biggest game of this year, maybe even bigger than any game before it etc.

I mean, there is no reason to be annoyed with anyone else for being hyped, but that's not what disappointment is.. the disappointment is that people pre-ordered this game despite not really knowing if they would enjoy it or not, and even after playing the beta, saying "lol Destiny sux" got "lol its just beta n00b" comments in reply.

I'm lucky to be able to play Destiny from gamestop money personally. It's not a game I wouldn't play for free*

*at least not anymore, I posted a while back that like Warframe I don't care for it, but Venus changed all of that

nothing like a quick 20 minutes in explore doing some of the missions. God I want it to be friday already so I can spend my 3 day weekend playing.

This is what really caused me to hesitate on pulling the trigger, and not just buy it going in blind.

Faith being something that is earned, by any rational measure, was in rather short supply, upon the announcement of two "large" DLC packs prior to initial release. I like to buy games with all the trimmings, fullstop, at disc price, rather than be gamed by content trimmed for future fleecing. But I'm old school, like that.

I am keeping an open mind, and hoping that more actual gameplay will be discovered, soon.

In my line of work sir is a sign of respect. Just because I think you are harping on hollow arguments (the game is bigger than any of their Halo games. Calling it a shell is disingenuous) does not mean I do not respect you. Trying to talk about nickel and diming us on content through DLC, which they are doing better than most of their contemporaries is also not constructive in any way (unless your argument is that games shouldn't have DLC at all, which I would again respectfully disagree). You say sounds short which means you are also not even speaking out of understanding of the content, but lack of experience. Sir^^

Pretty big assumption to say the DLC will be good value when we know nothing about it. Funny how you skimmed over the troll comments as well.

Sucks man. For the most part, we all are.

I just expected to be doing more than clearing an area of enemies, deploying my ghost so he can scan a computer, and then depend the ghost over and over again. It is disappointing, but I'm sure Destiny 2 will be much better.

I find myself agreeing with most of the impressions in here: an overall solid package with solid, fun gameplay (that's better with friends), that is hampered by an absolutely terrible story and repetitive, boring missions.

I'll stick with it, and I'm intrigued to play more, but I think once I wrap up the story, I'll be done with it.

Quick question, I am not a big COD type fps fan. I'm more of a fan of quake 2 days on the PC. I haven't picked up a console FPS in ages. Destiny has me HIGHLY intrigued. I dont like single player scripted nonsense. I am more of a straight gameplay fan. Think I'm a good fit? Good cop-op/ and more importantly PVP modes are what I'm looking for. I used to love me some CTF and team fortress.

There are later enemies who are uh, much tougher to headshot.

Really enjoying the whole game, but mang they could have added some flair to the encounters. Really hope the expansion brings in changes like that.

Nothing wrong with playing on hard. I only play the game on hard, normal diff is not much of a challenge otherwise.

You misunderstand. I was making sure he was playing on Hard because the mode has better encounters, the AI seems to come to life more.

Feels like they tightened up the controls a bit since the beta. By tighten I mean the aiming feels much less floaty. Turn speed is slower, stiffer and aiming for headshots actually feels more dialed in. The pulse rifle rate of fire much slower but now much more effective in PvP. It's a lot more like a BR now. Far less kickback and slower to fire.

That Rab Florence article just sold me on the game. Damn!

If it's lots of "Halo combat moments", I'm in.

The Halo comparison ends at how the gunplay feels and stops at enemy and weapon variety. You won't hate this game if you love Halo, whether you think it is as good or not. Most strike missions are basically RPG versions of that final boss from Halo 2.

Gaf is the only place I've seen where people have come to voice reasonable dissent. But go anywhere else, and it's another damn story. Why do some people hate this game? It's not even that they dislike it, but they are actively and aggressive dismissing it on an emotional level. I don't really understand why that is happening, if you don't like them game, alright. but people are making sure other people don't like the game and that no one likes it. again, that's largely outside of gaf. This is like bioshock Inifinite levels of backlash.

How anyone can call this a superior game to even the now ancient Halo 3 confuses me greatly.

Bungie have lost their magic, judging by Destiny at least ...

Why do people disliking this game instantly make them trolls?

I mean, if this were a game priced by subscription we could simply choose to not pay anymore, but paying a full price for a game then finding out it isn't what it was hyped up to be is valid.

I have seen many times the "what did you guys expect" comment. Don't give me that shit, Destiny was supposed to CHANGE THINGs.

For more I can be rather unpleased, but still enjoy this game. I mean, it feels like Halo, it ain't great but it can't suck the second it feels like Halo.

Nah, the list "I like A, B, and C, but man I really do not like E, F, G..." are normally met with "Really? Well I thought that..." kind of responses (not always. Nerves are wack on launch week^^). It is the hyperbole comments that are usually getting the troll treatment (Destiny is a criminal offense being my personal favorite^^). Regardless, it is best to take your real issues and feedback to the Bungie site so they can start work on the ones they can (Chat, UI, etc) as soon as possible^^

Sucks man. For the most part, we all are.

.

I was surprised to come into this thread yesterday afternoon and find how mixed the reactions were. Then I played it and the issues seem warranted.

No one is saying this is a horrible game. Some of us just feel it's a disappointing experience considering Bungie's previous efforts.

That Rab Florence article just sold me on the game. Damn!

If it's lots of "Halo combat moments", I'm in.

The gameplay is there but I have yet to feel like I have experienced a Halo: Combat Evolved moment.

Well all I can say is it's not a common thing that you're experiencing. This has been the smoothest online launch so far.

Maybe not common, but it's happening. Like I said, I'll wait til the weekend, hopefully it's better by then. Anyways, I'm only 5 weeks away on TLOU multiplayer from going Platinum! Til then.

All I go is by the posts of DGAF and the talk during party chats. It's not evenly split here or in game.

I meant by the way you said "for the most part, we all". I love that, I might use it myself one day.

But yeah from the words of my friend, "Destiny is booty... OH I GOT A NEW SCOUT RIFLE BRO!"

Man, that's a really apt comparison. I despised that fight.

No shit mate, thanks for explaining opinions to me. You know this is a place to have discussions about opinions. Mind = Blown.

For those of us who played a mmo, this game is not even mmo light. There is no reason to even communicate with the 3 other people randomly on the map. They should have done this like guild wars with actual towns and hubs in each planet to at least fake some sort of feeling alive. Fun game, but its just halo with better coop. No hubs, no reason to explore, very laughable amount of variety in weapons and enemies.

I'm curious, if an mmo can make countless different enemy types within the same amount of time that it took bungie to developed destiny... Then why is the game so bland and unimagined??? Could have been so much more.

In all honesty though, I believe its a case of "cross gen"... Xbox 360 and ps3 held back their ambition, which is why the game is so empty. Maybe?
