Bungie speaks out on Destiny review delay.

So I've been scouring the internet for the time the embargo lifts, but I'll be damned if I can find anything. Or is the embargo up and the reviews are delayed because the press didn't get review copies?

There was a real embargo on [go on, laugh] the day after release, if I remember well the flyer that came with the promo. After that, it's only about the credibility of each outlet. Actually, I'm kinda amazed there's no score out yet.

So, they said the game really starts when you've reached Lv. 20.
What do I do when I reached Lv. 20?

Grind for gear?

I'm having fun mostly because I'm playing with friends. However, the "campaign" is the very definition of mediocre. I still don't understand what happened, who certain people were, why they were helping me, who these mysterious
new enemies were
, and why I should even give a fuck. Aside from a couple of cool missions, the large majority of them were extremely average and repetitive. PVP is fun but I still have the same issues with it that I had in the beta.

Yeah, my biggest concern about the game was content.
I loved the alpha and the beta, but I expected 8 planets/moons with 3-5 areas each about as big as old russia. That way I would have dozens of hours of fun just exploring the world and the grinding wouldn't feel grindy.
Then the news came out that there is only one area on each planet/moon and there is only earth, mars, venus and moon.

.

It really seems like they needed 2-3 developers working on this just to deliver on the scale. That would have probably greatly helped any sense of monotony.

It blows my mind that people not only still accept AAA publishers' PR bullshit at face value but repeat it for them.

The entire launch strategy of this game has been carefully orchestrated to suppress negative word of mouth. It's shady as fuck, period.

It blows my mind people judge a game for what it isn't, only because they believed PR bullshit and expected this to change gaming forever.

Destiny is not a bad game. It does not deserve many of these shit drive-by posts calling it generic or broken.

Wether it's a classic, merely decent, or GOTY, is more subjective.

Didn't catch this edit. Why you gotta be so crazy?

If the PR for Destiny was "It's a good shooter, but it has it's share of problems,": then your assessment of the situation seems spot on.

I'm just saying, I don't see a lot of people gushing over the game. We're all saying it has pretty severe mission variety issues. Maybe you saw some of what you described in a different thread...?

Destiny isn't a masterpiece, or even a great game. It's not a bad one, and it's definitely not a broken one.

With every AAA game, there seems to be a subset of gamers who desperately want to see it fail. It happened with Titanfall, it happens every year with Call Of Duty, and now it's happening with Destiny.

All we can really do is hope Destiny 2 improves on this game, and I'm certain that it will.

There's that thing called twitch.
At first I thought it was only the beginning missions that had the same pattern.
After a few hours the streamer himself started to get irritated and switched it off.
He was playing with a friend too.
Keyphrases of the stream were:
"WAIT, I know what happens. Robots will spawn and I"ll have to shoot them then activate something. See, I told you !"
"God is there anything else to do in this game ?
"How many of you did I save 60 bucks today ?".

Well, you're basing what you're saying off what I'd assume were two people's opinions who were playing at the start of the game where everything is still locked off.
To be honest, your posts are more "I told you so" than anything else. For every two people who have turned it off in disgust after "a few hours" (WHY? I sense they're missing the point of the game entirely by the sound of it) there'll be more actually enjoying it.
Anecdotal evidence, sure, but me and our boy played from 8pm to 3am last night and thoroughly enjoyed it, and we're not even off the moon.

I thought I would enjoy the game but I don't. The mission design is terrible and repetitve. A story is almost non-existent.

Maybe it would be fun with more loot. I don't know.

I like the visuals and the sound design but that's it.

this. Why oh why did I let myself get sucked into the hype.

So you mean to say that anonymous people on the internet are assholes. Well this is shocking news to me.

Come on man, it's drive by shit posts...who cares. Hey destiny is broken, no it's not. Do you take youtube comments to heart too?

Wait, they were surprised to be shooting robots in a FPS game?
And good job calling the game a broken mess by looking at a Twitch stream.

Am I going to judge The Evil Within because all it has me do is run away and shoot zombies in the face, so I can activate something? That doesn't sound too fair does it?

Yeah, and you only had to pay $60 to find out about those problems. Sure would've been nice if a review had told you about those things... Whoops!

But by all means, continue to support this repressive bullshit.

Eh ? It was over the course of two days (twitch.tv/dansgaming). They made it to venus.

As long as you had fun, great.

Here's a disgusting analogy: it's like trying to hide the odor of a fresh turd (the missions) using perfume (the rest of the game).

Since it's ultimately what you're tasked to do in the game, I'm really glad I didn't pick it up.

Have fun.

You could say it ... smells? Right ?

Yeah my eyes are red. Have to go buy some coffee too.

And don't you talk about TEW. You'll break me emotionally. Don't.

From everything I am hearing it seems Borderlands 2 is the far superior game... On top of that it doesn't have Dinklage and doesn't take itself so serious.

You could have just waited and spent time researching your purchase instead of showing up on launch day like a toddler in a candy store screaming GIMMEGIMMEGIMME. No one forced you to spend the $60.

Holy hell this thread turned negative fast.

I mean, i agree there's not as much there as i thought there would be (didn't know there were only four different planets) but i'm really having fun with what is there. Definitely one of the most fun games i have played in a long while.

Well of course. Someone just can't review an mmo on the first day. You can't review the game alone, it's called mmo for a reason. It's been like that for like every mmo out there, if you may call Destiny an mmo. An mmo needs a thorough review, especially the endgame or stuff that you can do after you finished the story & reached level cap.

The fuck? I played the alpha and beta, so I knew exactly what this game was and I knew it had a few issues regarding mission design. None of this came as a surprise to me. And I'm still having fun with it, sorry to burst your weird bubble.

Besides, I never make game purchases based off of reviews. Never have, never will.

But by all means, continue being a crazy person.

How do mmo creators with less budget and same amount of time create 10x the content, 10x the world size, 10x the enemy variety, and 10x the loot than destiny??? I'd have even been OK with fetch quests and kill x number of space ducks...

This game is just coming off as disastrous to me. I can see these this game's online being desolate by January unless the pull a miracle in fixing the mission variety.

Putting aside the "MMO" bit, I do get the impression that there's a long game involved in this. First release is big and looty enough to keep the majority happy, and it'll just be added to along the game's (10 year?) lifeline. One would assume anyway.

They messed up by having last gen versions.

You do wonder where the money went, yes.

We have not received our copy yet and if that is any indication of what's going on, other outlets probably are in the same situation as well.

They can usually focus on one platform and maybe also have less crazy deadlines than Bungie here. No excuse, but I am sure the development was not easy...

Truly the gold standard of shitposts.

You don't have to get so offended that people don't like the game. That was far from a shit post but looking at all your posts in this thread its obviously you've taken serious offense to other people's valid arguments as to why they genuinely dislike the game.

Delayed reviews so people buy it before the hype train dies after realising its a shallow experience. Just like Titanfall.
Yeah except titanfall actually lived up to much of the hype for me. It still feels fresh among modern games mostly because of the movement and animations. Makes other shooters feel slow and clunky.

There was a popular Alpha and Beta for this game. Everyone had a chance to play it.

Diablo 3 had an open demo period too, any character up to the first act Mid boss and to lvl 14 or 16.

It didn't showcase the endgame at all or the difficulty scaling (no one saw act 2 inferno coming).

Just like the Destiny "Beta" didn't let players know about all the shortcomings they're stumbling across now.

Peter Dinklage's performance in this game is almost insulting. Bungie could have had fans audition for his role with the only compensation being to potentially hear your voice in the final product and they would gotten superior results.

As for the game itself, I like what I've played so far. I'm hoping they expand upon it and add new missions and events over time to keep things fresh.

I keep seeing titanfall showing up in a negative light and I would really love for people to explain what they mean. Titanfall is a solid shooter with great core mechanics. The only negative I can think of is the lack of playlists at launch and a mediocre graphical presentation.

I wonder are same people crying that delayed reviews are bullshit also same people who shout reviews are bullshit and can't be trusted.

Didn't we have a pretty good idea of the amount of content in Titanfall before it released? Bungie have been nothing but cagey about the amount of stuff in Destiny.

Well that's convenient as hell. Sorry, the game can't be reviewed until after everyone buys it. I don't think they tried hard enough though. Next time, make a game that can't be reviewed until all the DLC is released.

It's why I'm holding out. I was pretty meh on the Alpha and the Beta but was hoping it would deliver in the full package. The delay makes all this even more shady to me.

Have you really looked at my posts? Because I wasn't responding to any valid arguments. Please quote away.

I don't know if I love it or like it yet, haven't been able to put too much time into it yet.. but I knew what to expect from the Beta, and this is why I pre-ordered.

TitanFall was boring after a few weeks. I traded it. To me So far this gen there hasn't been that real must have game that makes you feel this is new generation.

It's not an MMO.

Agreed, it's horrendous. And don't anyone give me the he's an emotionless robot excuse.

Look at Kevin Spacey in Moon and then look at this.
Yeah.

That Eurogamer impression only highlights the ADD cynicism I see in every review for nearly every game. I stopped taking it seriously when I read they didn't understand what was going on. Which is odd because I'm just now heading to Mars and I understand the story just fine.

I know everyone is in hurry to do a review on the game because of the embargo, but if they're flying through and not paying attention then I don't care to read the review.

Saying a game has a good or bad story is fine, but pretending you don't understand what's going on when the game is giving you that info is just plain silly. It's like everyone has ADD in a movie theater and can only pay attention to explosions.

I'm not to the end of the campaign yet, so I can't yet on comment how it turns out: but a reviewer saying they don't know what's going on makes my blood boil. Because that is clearly not the case for me.
