It's not their job to justify it as an MMO either since that's not what they created nor is it what they intended to create. They wanted to make a shooter with heavy emphasis on Co-op and RPG elements. That's what they've made.
There were a lot of people who said that most of the complaints people have with Destiny right now don't apply (in terms of things like story and that the real game begins once you hit the level cap and start raiding) because they aren't approaching it as an MMO, though. Regardless of what Bungie set out to do, it's clear that people are at least divided over whether they interpret it as one (or as having strong MMO influences) or not. At the very least, they've got people confused.

You definitely can, I got a pulse rifle given to me that has elemental damage. Though that's also the problem with loot, it is so dull compared to other loot-based games. I'm just going to go buy a controller->keyboard converter and dominate in PvP as that seems to be the saving grace of Destiny.
Great, thanks for this. The loot does seem pretty dull and generic but I do think it'll suck me in anyway. Numbers...

Wasn't Bungie actively shying away from calling it an MMO in the first place. Whenever it got called that in interviews they immediately played it down as it not being an MMO. so that kind of contradicts what you're saying.

Good, because the game is fantastic as it is at its core.

All it really needs are things like party up options, optional matchmaking for story missions, some kind of local chat when in the tower, clan support, etc...

Then just keep adding new content: strikes, raids, seasonal events, contests, etc...

If Bungie build in the right way the game is literally destined to be incredible.

Time will tell.

"All it needs" appears to be a bunch of basic features that should have been there in the first place, and content to actually play... which should have been there in the first place.

I dunno, I like the shooting a lot but I'm not sure I'd call it "fantastic at its core."

Okay, game is seriously awesome. Just got to level 6, but I think I am going to complete Earth before moving to the Moon.

I have been playing TLoU MP nonstop for weeks and the Crucible is going to take some serious practice... .36 kd, but it was a new map not in the beta.

How does the normalization work for it, though? Do the gear bonuses apply? Or is everything at a base level.

I just want more missions, and proximity chat so random people can hear fireteams that are near by for max teamwork. No helmet option should be easy to patch.

Ah man I'm loving Bladedancer. Was losing a Rumble match by a little, popped my Arc Blade and went on an absolute killing spree and won the match. Sogood.gif

I was more referring to people (i.e. in this thread) going back and forth over whether or not it was an MMO due to what they perceived it to be, independent of the fact that Bungie stated that it was not one.

So does anyone feel the same way I do on the game? IMO, there just isn't enough of the addictive elements that a game like this should have. The leveling is too slow and there aren't enough levels in the first place. There also isn't nearly enough loot thrown at us. The quality and polish of the game is fantastic but, in short, there's not enough dinging or shinies to feed any kind of addictiveness.

Do we know what post release content support is going to look like? Are we going to get free updates and/or small DLC packages, or are the expansion packs all there will be?

When do I start getting crucible and vanguard marks and where do I check crucible rep/what is it used for?

lvl 20 if im not mistaken. Could be lvl 18 for crucible kinda rushed getting to max level.

Hope so the game feels like its missing 30~35% content.

Really? So armor stats and weapon stats are all equalized or something?

Yeah. Although if you have a piece of equipment that let's say a random bullet in the cartridge do extra damage or like a hand canon that reload faster after a kill that will still work.

Feel like I'm being thick, but I can't find the answer on Google. How do you acquire class armour? I'm level 13 and still stuck with the default bond.

The core shooting has been a blast and the scenery is amazing but the game feels pretty hollow to me.

As someone who probably won't PVP much beyond the trophies it's sad that there isn't more...

There's little to no emotional connection to the story or the characters in it. You don't understand what anyone wants or why you should care about the game. It's a problem of narrative stakes.

Also bad enough that you have to hunt for dead ghosts in order to learn about the world of the game and its history, but its absolutely criminal to then make those snippets of lore only available on bungie.net. The fact that I can't read about the fallen in the actual game I'm playing is baffling to me...

I wonder how that flock of birds are doing in the tower. Considering they are the only living creatures in the animal kingdom on Earth.

#prayforpigeons
I literally lol'd at the birds taking off because right before that I'd been wondering where all the animal life was.

exactly, why would someone try and debate a list with you when most of it isn't yours? And sure nothing more than suggestions you noticed by drumming it up with 'come on gaf we need more'.

wat

Dude, you can totally debate a list even if it's made in conjunction with other people. That's democracy.

I was drumming because I knew that, having seen this thread from start to now, there was a lot more things people were talking about than just what was there.

Having so much fun today

My current Guardian. Looking good so far! Hope to get a rare weapon sometime tonight.

Lmao. Venus cracks me up too. Lush green forests with zero animal life on it. I wonder what everyone eats?!

Guardians are vegetarians confirmed. Check bungie.net for more info

Best way is to buy a random at the cryptarch in the tower and hope for a cool one.

I've found a few out in the world though, got lucky and got an awesome blue warlock armband, it glows green and blue like a glowstick, pretty cool.

Plus, it's not unreasonable to think that people who suggested the items (or just those that agree with them) would be willing to debate the validity.

It's not even like the expansions are going to add that much more, are they? From what it looks like they are just tying areas from the old game with a handful of new sections. The new story I severely doubt will be something with more ambition that what we've gotten.

Aside from Vault of Glass raid which, PR talk in mind, is supposed to be the experimental heavy area of the game, Destiny is what it is now and no expansion is going to change what the game is. /goalposts.

And how the fuck do you know any of this? I've never seen someone spend sooooo much time hating a game. Go play Halo already and leave us alone. We like the game, get over it.

You're getting a bit boring now.

Sorry this is a discussion thread. Don't make this an us vs them situation like a poster has already said a few pages back. There are good things and bad things to talk about here.

I'm having trouble understanding your meaning with the bold in regards to how it applies to what I wrote but I will agree that people seem to be having trouble in classifying the game and because of that, expectations are all over the place.

Personally I don't think that Destiny has to fit in one specific little category. I feel like it's a game that people should give a shot if they thought it was interesting and if they don't like it, then that's fine. Expectations are tricky though. I think it's fine to have expectations based on what Bungie has shown and said but to have expectations based on what genre you want to classify the game as, is going a bit far.

A lot of the Titanbrehs are posting hate on this game it seems.

Just did the second Mars mission solo on Hard. That was long...

Venus Nexus strike with only one other player at the end was crazy. Do people who drop out of strikes never get replaced?

Game isn't an MMO, it's a social shooter.

Hell, the way you run into other players in the wild is more akin to seeing Phantoms in Dark Souls with how quickly they show up and can disappear again.

Buy it, generally. The Cryptarch sells white Class Armor engrams for pretty cheap.

No idea why that didn't twig with me before, I've keyed over it at the Cryptarch a few times before. Duh.

Sadly I've got to wait for the stock refresh now.

Getting pretty good at Rumble. In 4 games I've lost 1 and won 3. Doubt my luck will hold up but this is so much fun win or lose, especially now I have my triple jump unlocked. Will be trying the blade dance soon.
