Nintendo Q3 FY 24/25 Earnings Release: Hardware 4.82M LTD 150.86M, Super Mario Party Jamboree 6.17M

Why do we have to go through this PS2 topic every 3 months here?
PS2 was being produced for over 13 years, not 5.5.... and it was being sold for pennies in emerging markets as a DVD player. The fact that Nintendo didn't have to do any price cuts or sell it as a media player, just proves Switch's strength.
Let's meet in 5 years and then compare the numbers, if you want to be so detailed.

I was one of those that pick up Torna during the reprint.

Did they do an actual physical cartridge reprint? I bought it when it first came out, but I would be surprised or they reprinted physical copies of DLC. Granted, Xenoblade DLC expansions are long enough to be their own reasonable length stand alone games

because Sony conveniently bumped up PS2 total sales number last year, that's TWELVE YEARS after PS2 last production.

That's why no one trusts Sony's PS2 number

Decent sales for Mario Wonder, but it needs a lot more.

The game pisses all over those "New Super Mario Bros" games and needs to rank higher in terms of lifetime sales.

Someone recreate that Hitler bunker meme with someone telling him Switch is gonna blow past PS2 lifetime sales and him (hitler [sony in this scenario]) orders them to find more PS2 sales that were sent to Antarctica that they forgot about. 170m PS2s baby.

I know there's a part where he specifically yells out "SHTALLIN!" If anybody actually does your meme idea, I hope that part is some kind of reference to Stalin being an X-Box guy "I may as well subscribe to Gamepass LIKE STALIN!"

I am interested to see what a truly backwards compatible Switch 2 does to the Switch 1 sales. Its not like the Switch 1 in its 7 years has seen a price drop, is it a case when the Switch 2 is out, everyone moves onto it or waits for Stock of it and then the Switch 1 sales drop accordingly.

Has any Nintendo system had good legs after a successor was released? I could see sales falling off hard as we get closer to the Switch 2 launch.
A lot of things can happen depending on how they price and position the Switch 2 relative to the Switch. But I think we can be sure to see Nintendo keep support for Switch for a while post Switch 2's launch.

As they highlight in this report the sales of Switch is in decline, but the number of annual playing users is the highest it's ever been - and we won't see 129M users move to Switch 2 anytime soon. So they have everything to gain selling new games to their current user base and keep them subscribed to their online service.

Hopefully it doesn't mean everything will be cross-gen. But who knows.

As for Nintendo systems falling off post their successor, the 3DS, for example, sold an additional 10M units post the Switch launch. So I think we can expect Switch to keep going for a least a year or two more.

Every holiday period they are pushing MK8 bundles, of course it is selling.

Even with Switch 2 I think the momentum will carry them past 160mln, dethroning the PS2.
Bundling only responsible around 6-7% of total MK8D sales based on FY reports we got from Nintendo.

Bundle games(all Nintendo 1st party combined) total with Nintendo switch
FY19 - 3.4m
FY20 - 3.8m
FY21 - 1.5m
FY22 - 1.25m
FY23 - 2.85m

Standard 96.18m, Lite 25.27m, Oled 29.41m

So OLED model alone will outsell Series consoles by the time its done. 🤷‍♂️

Nintendo Switch is undoubtedly the most successful gaming console of all time.
To be fair - while that's undoubtedly true from company perspective - I don't think consumers have much to celebrate around profitability as the defining metric of 'success'.

And they announced a new version, you would think that would hurt the sales.

I'm tell yah if my guess is correct, and they are making Switch 2 specifically to run decently 3rd party titles and selling it as a main console game(not as a second device you have with your main console), then Switch 2 is gonna be a beast.

Im all for competition and keeping sony in check so ps6 doesnt cost 1k usd with 100usd launch games, but lets keep it realistic, we all saw gameplay of mario kart9, it looks worse from gt7 on 12yo ps4, bro, switch2 gonna have micropenis performance even compared to 5yo base ps5 xD
Not counting xbox series x/s coz we getting brand new microsoft console, so holidays 2026, that will be even more powerful from ps5pr0 so we can assume once x-gen period is over for microsoft baseline mashine all multiplats gonna make games for will be base ps5.

It has also lasted longer without a successor. PS2 had 5.5 Years before PS3 dropped. Switch is going into 9th year without a successor.

Sony could reach similar numbers for PS5 if it kept selling it till 2029 with no successor
Nintendo would reach those numbers even faster if they sold the Switch for $99, something Sony fanboys are quick to forget when they attempt to downplay the Switch's success.

No one is downplaying Switch success, the numbers speak of themselves.

150 million consoles sold and fucking retards are still insisting game consoles are dead.

lol - lmao, even
Mostly a certain group whose platform is dead trying to gaslight everyone into thinking it's an industry-wide phenomenon and that PC will swallow up every console in a few years.

Also, does the Switch have it in it to surpass the PS2? 10M is a tall order when its successor is right around the corner. When the PS5 was $600 and the PS2 $6
100 with a much larger collection of games, it was a no-brainer. I doubt Nintendo price cuts the Switch that much following the Switch 2's launch. Most likely, they do the same thing they usually do and discontinue it shortly after the new console is out.

We have to ignore this kind of comments, at this point is just matter of time for the Switch to become the best selling gaming console ever, no matter the downplay comments, by the end of this FY it is going to be 152 Million, the 3DS sold more than 10 million after the Switch came out, the Switch is going to end selling around 165 Million.

Raw numbers really don't matter. Yes, it is likely that the PS2 sold a bit more than the Switch. But it is really an apples to oranges comparison considering how long the PS2 was in production, and the fact that it was borderline offered in happy meals. Not to mention that a lot of early adopters bought it because it was one of the cheapest DVD players around.

So yes, the PS2 sold a lot and was a massive success. But as a videogame system, the Switch is incomparably bigger.

And those first-party sales would make everyone envious, especially when you factor that an enormous percentage of them were sold at full price while everyone else discounts their games by 50% within 6 months.

aaand stock is up, fuck it, can't buy :(. It's the damn Switch 2...

Switch Hardware Total: 150.86m
Regional Split Total: Japan 36.82m, Americas 57.83m, Europe 39.00m, Other 17.22m

Is it me or the math doesn't work out here (I get 150.87) ? Guess it's Nintendo's weird rounding

They lower forecasts instead of prices... They could sell millions more with a price cut, some cross gen games and a "greatest hits" price reduction to Switch 1 games, which will also play on Switch 2 for those moving on for the newer exclusives.

Whole industry in shambles and Nintendo just casually doing their thing.

Can't think of a company as smart and healthy as Nintendo. Even when their consoles had bad sales, they still earned money.

Amazing numbers for the switch. I wonder what total sales will be? Only 10m now to catch PS2! Can it top out ay 170m or is that too much considering the switch 2 is round the corner now. Also why are prople salty about the PS2 number? The 155m was reported one year before it was officially discontinued. You think it sold 0 consoles in that year? It literally cost nothing remember? We even have the exact final number.

Produced isn't sold. Nintendo produced more Switches than they sold, aswell. Which funny points will you come up with, when Nintendo surpassed your made up dream number?

It's just because we don't get full details. The total will be correct but you could have 36.816M (rounded up to 36.82), 57.826 (rounded up to 57.83) 39.00, 17.216 (rounded up to 17.22), for example.

I always through their forecast for this year was quite high. I thought it meant they were going to cut the price but nope, they were being too optimistic.

Without a single price cut. Wild.

If they drop the Switch to $200 with Mario Kart 8, they'll easily blow past the PS2.

Anyone hear that? whats that sound? it sounds like sony rummaging around the back of the couch to find some more PS2 sales to pull out.

It's been a long long time we saw a platform cross 150 million. Pretty historic moment.

I bet software would be noticeably higher if digital-only was included.

The one that sold the most after a successor is the GBA. The DS released in November 2004, so this means the GBA shipped 15.77 million (1.06+8.33+4.34+1.59+0.41+0.04) After the DS had replaced it. The GBA was a very cheap handheld though and typically Nintendo hardware ships only 5 to 10 million after a successor. The Gamecube shipped less than 1 million after the Wii but the worst was the Wii U that had already ended production and been discontinued five months before the Switch even released.

That's why I'm thinking sales might fall off heavily unless Nintendo cut the price. The switch 2 being backwards compatible wont help because people will now hold off and wait for the switch 2. Why spend hundreds on a Switch when the Switch 2 is just round the corner?

Impressive numbers! What a successful piece lil piece of machinery!

Wait till sony announces another 5 million sales from Mars lol
