Mostly a certain group whose platform is dead trying to gaslight everyone into thinking it's an industry-wide phenomenon and that PC will swallow up every console in a few years.

Also, does the Switch have it in it to surpass the PS2? 10M is a tall order when its successor is right around the corner. When the PS5 was $600 and the PS2 $6
100 with a much larger collection of games, it was a no-brainer. I doubt Nintendo price cuts the Switch that much following the Switch 2's launch. Most likely, they do the same thing they usually do and discontinue it shortly after the new console is out.
3DS sold 10+ million systems after the Switch came out and it only sold 70ish million total. It's insane to think Switch won't sell another 10mil post Switch 2 launch, especially considering the software support (mainline Pokemon) it will get and the cheaper Lite alternative that will stay on store shelves (most likely).

Tell your mom to teach you about public companies reporting
Sony hides Playstation Vita sales numbers and don't forget that they also count returned and refurbished units as part of shipments lol.

Can’t believe Mario Kart 8 Deluxe just keep selling. It makes perfect sense for Nintendo to launch the Switch 2 with it (even with a rumored bundle/special edition console).

What innovations does Mario Kart 9 need to have in order to keep the huge momentum?

As for hardware, the Switch is still having strong sales. Of course not as high, but it’s so amazing. I believe the Switch has never had a price cut, only sales promotions.

That has to make it clear for Nintendo to not price the Switch 2 over $399. They need to keep momentum for the hardware, as well as Mario Kart 9 and their other software. They need to not make a mistake right now.
Good question.

Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe IMHO is super popular for these reasons:

1. MK is just a popular IP
2. Breadth and Depth of content(game is gigantic, not just for a MK game but for any game, it's the BotW of Mario Kart) tons of modes, courses, parts, unlockables, shortcuts
3. Game runs silky smooth locked 60fps docked and I assume handheld
4. Game looks incredible in both handheld and docked(really, REALLY good graphics for Switch watching the game in motion don't know how or why)
5. The game oozes character, charisma, charm, and ambience(the atmosphere is very compelling)
6. Incredible amount of creativity in design of the levels, the karts, the parts, and the characters
7. Game is easy to pick up, has motion controls available, rubber banding to keep races from being blowouts and to keep pros on their toes(but skill will almost always win out), which makes sure that each race is memorable
8. Handheld theory - each race can be completed in a few minutes and you can hop in and out of the game easily, essential to becoming a goat seller on a hybrid handheld console
9. Racing has a universal appeal that things like SSB(fighting games) will never have and very much appeals to casual players as well as hardcore, and while fandom is rewarded in Mario Kart, it is never required like it can be in other mascot/museum games(astro, ssb)
10. The game just feels fresh, ie the controls are perfect, everything is honed and polished to mirror sheen, the music is wholesome, fresh, and exciting, the sound effects are the best ever

So to answer your question I think they need to add more flying sections.

Amazing numbers for the switch. I wonder what total sales will be? Only 10m now to catch PS2! Can it top out ay 170m or is that too much considering the switch 2 is round the corner now. Also why are prople salty about the PS2 number? The 155m was reported one year before it was officially discontinued. You think it sold 0 consoles in that year? It literally cost nothing remember? We even have the exact final number.

Switch willl continue to sell, especially when a price drop eventually happens to the hardware. Hell, I was talking to some random woman the other day and she mentioned she just bought a Switch and was going on about how much she loved it. The hardware will continue to move.

150.86 million Switch sold!! :messenger_open_mouth: :messenger_open_mouth: :messenger_open_mouth:

Watch Sony announce a few millions more PS2 sold in Antartica

I know you are trolling, but if that is really what Sony was doing, wouldn't they wait until after Nintendo stopped making Switch and then magically change the number sold?

  • Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity: 4.00m
  • Metroid Dread: 3.07m
Happy to see both games continuing to sell pretty well!
  • Astral Chain: 1.33m
Wish Astral Chain had better legs since it's one of my fav Platinum games. Still praying for a sequel!

Edit: I now see that the sales for these titles weren't updated this quarter. :messenger_grinning_sweat:
The first thing what i will do on Switch 2 is replaying and finishing Astral Chain, then Bayonetta 3.

Of course it will continue to sell. How much more is the question? Someone already posted numbers of all Nintendo systems after a successor released and it topped out at 15m with GBA. Can the Switch do more?

Produced isn't sold. Nintendo produced more Switches than they sold, aswell. Which funny points will you come up with, when Nintendo surpassed your made up dream number?

The hell you so mad about? Get out of your mom's basement from time to time. Imagine taking something so meaningless this seriously. You do know that I actually want the Switch to pass the PS2 right? Jesus christ. What a fucking nerd you are.

I think it can, but thoughts are just that. I also think there will be no problem cresting the Ps2 sales figures that they continue to mysteriously update as recently as last year.

They will pass PS2 easily I think. Again I don't know why people keep inplying that Sony made up the 160m, when the 155m was reported in March 2012. A whole year before they ended production. I can't even say this without people going mental at me! Lol wtf is wrong with them? It's a fact! Look it up yourselves you lazy cunts.

If the last update was 2012 - it's even more odd that they make such a strange adjustment over a decade later. Why then? I don't refute the numbers, nor care, but it's just odd. When was the last time Ps2 hardware was physically available?

Decent sales for Mario Wonder, but it needs a lot more.

The game pisses all over those “New Super Mario Bros” games and needs to rank higher in terms of lifetime sales.
Hard disagree.

SMW was okay but it was super easy and I lost interest.

Super Mario 3D World is way better even if not considering Bowser's Fury which is also pretty good. The stages were just so varied and got quite challenging during the last two biomes. I would say Super Mario 3D World is my favorite 2D(or 2.5D in this case) Mario. Only the true mainline games can beat it in my eyes.

New Super Mario Bros U: Deluxe is a throwback to the harder games and is much harder than any of the others. It is similar to OG Tropical Freeze in difficulty meaning unforgiving. I think it is more close to the original NES Mario Bros, and is good for what it is, but I do agree that it is not as good as Wonder(and way worse than Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury). /takes hipster hat off

It was always 160m since march 2013. Sony simply didn't publically give an update. They did the same with the PS3. They left it at 85m but final tally was closer to 88m. They even do it with their first party games never giving updates on them. Remember the insomniac leak? People were surprised at how high some games sold and wondered why sony never gave updates. I don't know why they do that. It doesn't really matter I guess. Its just fanboy bragging rights.

Makes perfect sense Mario kart DS was like that. Then Mario Kart Wii. People buy Mario kart like they buy the monopoly board game.

Switch is carried by Japan sales at this point. Still spectacular performance in its 8th year
To my surprise, even though Japan is indeed the one with the lowest YoY decrease (Q1-Q3 it's at -25% while EU is 29,5 and USA 32%), in the last quarter specifically, Europe gained +0,2% points as weight in overall hardware pieces, while Japan remained flat and north america and other decreased both by 0,1%.

In simplified terms: Europe now accounts for 25,9% of total HW sold while it was at 25,7% at Q2.

I'd say basically only 3 reasons:
  • If you want a good racing game on Switch there's basically no alternative
  • It mixes all the Nintendo popular IPs, plus has Mario in the cover and the name
  • It has basically zero innovation or creativity, basically it's a refurbished and expanded Mario Kart 7 port- that mostly repeats the same stuff the IP has doing again and again for many years in several games. But people doesn't care because it's a great game and people like it, so they don't care if they get more of the same

Yeah, those PS2 sales only add up to 147.34m. LTD magically 160m... lol
Sony have done this a couple of times, pulling additional millions of PS2 sales out of their asses.
because Sony conveniently bumped up PS2 total sales number last year, that's TWELVE YEARS after PS2 last production.
That's why no one trusts Sony's PS2 number
Anyone here that? whats that sound? it sounds like sony rummaging around the back of the couch to find some more PS2 sales to pull out.

If the last update was 2012 - it's even more odd that they make such a strange adjustment over a decade later. Why then? I don't refute the numbers, nor care, but it's just odd. When was the last time Ps2 hardware was physically available?
Sony has known the final PS2 number since 2013. It's just that we didn't know since in that fiscal year they combined PS2 and PS3 sales.

There were never any invented numbers or numbers pulled from nowhere.

Forza Horizon Open World races in addition to normal track races. Whats more crazy is Mario Kart 8 will get a bump when 9 comes out and at 75million copies sold, this game might sell over 80million when it's all said and done which is astronomical number for any game much less a game that was on 1 (and a half) systems. I think only Minecraft and GTAV have sold more.

Insane numbers with an almost perfect 50/50 physical/digital games ratio that will continue with the Switch 2 BC. And this is surely counting every digital game that does not have a physical release.
Nintendo will seemingly keep classic gaming alive, amazing.

All I can gather from this thread is that Nintendo are killing it, and that all your mothers and their basements are very busy.

It has also lasted longer without a successor. PS2 had 5.5 Years before PS3 dropped. Switch is going into 9th year without a successor.

Sony could reach similar numbers for PS5 if it kept selling it till 2029 with no successor
Some would say PS3 wasn’t a successor either since PS2 was still being manufactured and sold until 2012! 🤣

Nintendo fanboys if switch tops out at 159.9m. Imagine the chaos if that actually happens.
