The mission design for like every story mission seem to be:

1. Travel to a point
2. Battle through some low-level enemies
3. Reach The Darkness zone
4. Make the Ghost scan something
5. Fight the countless hordes that appears while the Ghost is scanning

Some minor variations in some missions, but basically it's all the same. And what's up with showing your character in a nice cutscene for the first time like several hours in at
The Reef
? I really wish there was some grand opening with your character where someone walked you around The City, and you could see your character talk and react to everything. Then some inspirational speech from a great military leader or something that was rallying all new Guardians.

Omg there's so much stuff I wish they did that I can't stop thinking about it for like every second I play. The story and the world is painfully barebones. It hurts so much since it looks so interesting on the surface.

Did some searching about engrams.. Seems majority of the folks tell saving up the engrams to decrypt them once you get to higher levels is a pointless move. Especially if you're level 20 and have a stockpile of engrams. The chances are those green engrams you plan on decrypt won't turn out to be any better than the gear you are currently using.

The suggest decrypt them as you earn them so you can capitalize on the time window of still being low leveled and having chance of using an above average gear.

A poster also said going back as a level 20 to golden chest is useless to as he got mostly gears for lower levels

EDIT: Best tip 've seen is to decrypt green ones as you get them, while keeping the blue and rarer ones till you hit cap. that way your engram level is improved by the time you want to decrypt the rarer engrams.

Might I ask why you hate ADS?

1) Staring at a giant gun model, at the cost of seeing what's going on in front of me, is something I strongly dislike. Halo had what I called "combat clarity", where being able to see action and receive visual feedback clearly was a key design philosophy. This informed many aspects of that series, from scoping to grass height to weapon effects and damage indicators (no raspberry jam). For half the kills in Destiny I'm looking for numbers to pop up to confirm them because the gun model hinders the visual feedback. I think it's genuinely bad game design.

2) I like fluid game play. Having to choose between movement and accuracy is just awful, IMO. It's really jarring in Destiny going from nice, floaty movement, big double jumps, sprinting along...and then you turn into a nearly stationary turret for the privilege of aiming straight when an enemy appears. It also greatly limits how dynamic the encounters can be (can't dodge and return fire at once, can't jump and shoot...) The gap between how fluid Halo's combat was compared to Destiny is enormous for this reason.

Destiny is one of the first games I've owned to use ADS. It's probably my single most hated gameplay mechanic in gaming right now, and what kept me from buying other shooters last gen. I really can't over state my dislike. That I find the game fun despite there being ADS is a borderline miracle. :p

So I got to Level 22 and tried that Weekly Heroic Strike (the Sepikis Prime one)

Jesus Christ.

This was obliterating me when I tried at Level 21, only slightly more survivable at 22. To make it harder there is no match making, either you've organised your own fire team beforehand or you're on your own.

what? was looking forward on trying this today, but noone on my friendlist is near level 22 :(

Bungie said that the game really "starts" at level 20 but is that true? I mean won't most of the story missions be done by then?

That's correct.

Story missions will most likely be done, but the story missions are only a very small part in terms of what the game is. It is Diablo-esque in that you hit max level and do the harder content and gaining rep/currency (Stirke playlist, Crucible, Raids) to earn new gear which helps you achieve light levels that allow you to go beyond 20.

You obtaining more powerful gear and guns is the game essentially. Not the story missions, and to obtain the best gear there is you need to be level 20 so the game "starts" at 20.

I assume it won't last 2 years, by then Destiny 2, or whatever they'll call it, will be out. There will be DLC though, they're not in it for charity. :)

I already got the expansion packs :) im sure they will have 2 more expansions. But my point is what if they aren't good lol. Destiny does many things right but some are headscratchers.

Fusion rifle is great for hip firing. Same with shotgun, machine gun, etc. I'm also finding the pulse rifle to be surprisingly accurate firing from the hip. Guns can also have a bonus that makes hip firing more accurate. So with enough work and luck you can have your non ads character.

Dat impact doh

Anyone else notice there are still areas populated with enemies that went unused? Like The Grotto on Earth, which is behind the Forgotten Shore. It was filled with high level enemies in the beta. I went back and they're still there. I was able to do more damage to them but there was no mission over there.

With the way they have the story, mission layout, and small amount of PVP maps I'm curious to see what they will actually do to keep this thing alive post launch months later. The mission setup will get repetitive and I'm not sure if paying for more missions that do the exact same thing as the vanilla will be enough. PVP is even lacking in terms of options. Which is something bungie is well known for.

Started getting way more drops since I hit Mars. Now in strikes I can expect at least 3 or 4 at the least.

Haven't found anything level 20 yet though. Are all the level 20 items legendary and exotic?

There's actually a raid over there. Or some sort of strike.

Finally got a taste of the potential of this game. I was out patrolling on earth and ran into the most epic A.I. battle I've ever seen. There were wizards, purple eyeballs, knights, dregs, knights with giant swords, vangards, and acolytes all fighting it out haha

I tend to enjoy it as it makes me think on my feet whether to go for superior accuracy or quickness of movement. It feels like a tradeoff I'm always thinking about and I love that.

I still love this game...

But even SNES Final Fantasy games had the decency to do a pallet swap when reusing sprites. I've fought the same exact knight with a different special name so many times now. Why?

Don't be racist!
We all probably look the same to them, too. :P

Story spoilers up till first mission in Venus

So this lady just asked me to come to the Reef but I have no idea what the hell she was talking about and nor understand why I need to go there.

I wish I was more engaged in the story. :/

Yeah it would have been much easier with someone else.

Which is why it's a bummer communication is so limited. In mission and in the Tower, you can approach another player and press R3 and do things like inspect their gear and invite them to your fireteam but there should be the option to open voice chat or something.

With a standard MMO it would be a very simple matter to make it known that you're looking for people to do a mission with.

Not so in Destiny.

When the Vault of Glass goes live it's gonna be hell putting a team together.

Warlocks, baby! Glide is perfect for that.

Yeahhhh

I don't know why they did it the way they did. Game needed a lot more dialog that wasn't Ghost. The player character speaks occasionally in cut-scenes. If they weren't going to make them mute they should have gone a lot further with it and given them a personality. The weirdest is getting Nathan Fillion, Lance Reddick and Gina Torres to do literally nothing in the tower. Oh, they do some lines for the explore quests and a couple of strikes. Why doesn't anyone in this game have a personality? And all the lore is in the app too lol

there's no way I will be able to beat the heroics alone as a hunter. damn, this game is missing really basic MMO stuff. why isn't there an option to mark targets? would make strikes much easier, so they could add more complex challenges instead of bosses which are just bullet sponges.

I'm beginning to think the "story" is a ruse and there actually isn't one, It's just a series of completely random and disconnected paragraphs plagiarized from c-grade scifi novels

Look at the star map, should be above the tower after finishing Venus mission 1.

I don't mind much of the core gameplay. As I've said before, areas are beautiful, gunplay is fun, and the gameplay loop that I enjoyed from the Alpha and the Beta is intact and better with now having the full game. I'm also confident in the post-game support and hopeful that they'll add in a lot of the social features.

I just don't see why no criticism of anything else in the game can't take place.

I'm sure you have a great point, but from what I've read so far, some people kinda imply that Bungie isn't gonna do shit to fix any problems the game has.

I sure hope you're right.

Hand cannons are god awful in PvE
You mean PvP? The modifications Bungie made for the final game let hand cannons absolutely rip shit up in PvE; it's like a close-range complement to a sniper that has tons of ammo. You can one-shot most enemies when you're not underleveled.

I took one into PvP and couldn't do anything with it, though.

Forgive me if this has been discussed.

But where is the social interaction in this game. Im part of Destiny GAF and our sub clan has like 60+ members. I have never seen or heard any of them.

Am I missing something? Do I literally have to friend request every person just to do a mission with them?
