exceptions:
-don't ever play normal mode. I assume this is there for less skilled/casual players who just want to play without much challenge and get help when they need it- in normal mode, a high level WILL completely obliterate everything and render it pointless.
-does not work in the other direction. e.g. grouping with a level 15 doesn't enable a level 5 to be able to hold their own in the Moon strike
So if I understand you correctly this still means I should avoid patrols - or do they have 'hard' patrol missions? Seems weird if so since so much of them take place in the open world with other players about.

So, missions scale, but in open world exploration you'll still be uber compared to other players of the appropriate level?

Sorry for the million questions - but my biggest concerns with this game from the very first reveal have all centered around levels and scaling and balancing - both in terms of balancing with a group of players of different levels as well as how levels play into replaying missions and exploring the world.

After moving to a new place, buying a new kitchen and waiting for Driveclub I didn't feel like buying Destiny at all.
Today I came home and my wife bought me a new pair of Adidas and a copy of Destiny!
Can't play it till Tuesday since my new high speed Internet connection is due Tuesday!

But damm.... My wife rocks! :D

wow, you chose well, my son

well done

Well in Patrol there are areas with higher level enemies.
And no even in Patrol you won't just one shot everything but you'll definitely mince things. It all depends which area you are in. Honestly man, just play with your friends and see how it goes.

Man I cant seem to co-op with anyone, it sucks that everyone's join game settings is always on Friends only :(

Is anyone around level 6-8 and down for some fire squad fun? This game gets old fast when playing alone.

Patrols are a waste of time unless you're on a specific bounty or just messing around. People used patrols to farm glimmer in the beta, but for farming in the game now the Temple of Oryx mission can't be beat.

Just jumping into the 360 version, could someone give a quick rundown of the different classes? Are they very different in terms of how they play, pros/cons?

Titan: Useful in close quarters especially towards the larger levels. I think that it is also much better at approaching firefights also at later stages. Mobility is one problem I have with the Titan class, although I think it may be something with my playing style and clumsy control.

Basically the titan is balls to the wall jumping into the firefight but you can somewhat make it a lighter class.

Hunters are agile and give what I think is the best super which is the Golden Gun. As a Titanplayer myself, I think it's overpowered, but that could just be my opinion and not fact.
If I can recall, the Hunter has Blade dance which is also very useful, but you unlock thatlater when you're very high in level.

The Hunter is good for agility, and is definitely useful when fighting from a distance. Hunters will get stomped hard by a Titan if they're not prepared for it and dont have their super.

I dont know much about the warlocks. I say go with whatever you think looks most comfortable but don't forget that you can choose another Guardian if you dont like the one you have.

I just hit level 15. Is it better to wait until you are level 20 to start your sub class? Or does it not matter when? Kind of sucks, because I really want my triple jump. So I feel like I should keep leveling up my main class before jumping over to the other one. But then again, once you switch to the sub class, you would lose that triple jump anyways, as abilities don't carry over, right?

Considering Hand Cannon is my most used and it's the only gun type I don't have a Rare version of I'm going to say yeah lol. I've had numerous rares for most others but no hand cannons =(

Getting 5000 kills with a primary, 2500 with special or 1000 with a heavy weapon type makes that weapon type start getting more XP though, so there's that.

Well then I guess I'll pick something more sensible and wait for a better hand cannon to come along.

That's a real shame, though. Theyre so much more fun to use even though my K/D ratio is dropping like a rock.

Ok guys my mind was just fucking blown with the stuff they put into this game. i need to know if anyone else has noticed this yet or if I am the first. If I am the first, which I doubt, then just wow at putting something like that in just as a cool touch:

When you arrive in the tower a few seconds after you get transmat in, you can SEE YOUR SHIP FLY BEHIND YOU INTO THE SHIP HANGAR. If someone stands in the hangar at that time, he can SEE YOUR SHIP LAND AND GET TAKEN DOWN AN ELEVATOR.

The same is true for anyone who shows up in the tower. Three people just teleported in? Three ships will fly in and land at the hangar, one a bit after the others cause there are only 2 elevators.

Just. My mind is just blown. Bungie put in a totally missable, not even really obvious way of showing you where the hell your ship goes after you land. And of course it is YOUR ship, the one you bought which ever one it is.

Anyone else blown away by that? I'd post a video but fuck linking my PSN to my Facebook.

You could say the polish and presentation are....out of this world? *wink*

Just give it a shot with friends (or solo) and see if you like it. You could have found out yourself by now :D

Titans: Lumbering maroons. These guys are annoying.

Warlocks: Space magic. That's literally it.

Hunters: WE ARE THE BEST. AROOOOUND.

I'll give it a shot.

But the other reason I ask is that the fact there are other players on a map have been more of a hindrance than a help and I'd like to not make matters worse. Like I'd start a beacon mission on the moon (Kill X enemies) only to find *all* of the nearby areas completely wiped out by groups of much higher leveled players. That was a bit too much MMO for my likes, so yeah, I also ask because I don't want us to go sprinting in and trample the areas that lower level players are exploring for the first time.

In general, I find level based games come with so many more problems to them than benefits. And its for all of these reasons - group balance, replayability, powerful characters trampling lowbie areas, etc.

But yeah, will solo explore a bit and see how it shakes out.

Correct. Really hurts going from Gunslinger to Bladedancer and losing your double jump. You feel so useless, but Bladedancer is fun.

I'm going all the way with Gunslinger. Hoping beyond hope to find that helmet that gives you a fourth round in your golden gun.

Ah damn. Doesn't each level require more XP to reach that level? So....the sub class starts over at level 15 +, isn't that kind of crazy? Or is that not how it works?

Are the other people running around really humans or just AI with human looking usernames, I can't hear any of them. It's really soulless in single player, how can an MMP feel so empty and void of life?

Enemies respawn incredibly quick and higher level players don't kill them any faster than you. The game honestly is all about headshots. Headshots are the difference between an enemy taking half a clip or more or you basically 2 shotting them.

Also remember that you can pass zone boundaries to basically reset the "shard" you are in. If you go to say "Mothyards" and then back to "The Steppes" you'll be in a different instance and enemies can have respawned, etc...

There's no voicechat unless you're in a fireteam with them. They're real players lol

They are all humans and there is no open proximity voice chat because otherwise every would be called a nigger faggot cunt dickbutt while music blares in the background.

And I had no idea it worked this way. I figured matchmaking happened between orbit and landing and that was your same group of players in all open world areas - so they couldn't just reset for me personally. Or do you mean all inside areas? Because several beacon missions take place entirely outside.

"Enable proximity chat" would have been a lovely option, off by default - just in case.

Ah sorry for not clarifying that.

First off, it's really nice of you to worry about ruining the experience of others in the newbie zones, but also don't forget to think of yourself ;) Ultimately, the "griefing" potential in this game is absolutely tiny.

There's nothing wrong with doing patrols as they still give you decent XP even on Earth- but especially keep in mind bounties.
"Kill 100 Dudes on Earth"
"Do 6 beacon missions on Earth"

Bounties always get you good XP, and Vanguard Rep (or Faction rep once you can do that.. don't worry about it for now). Doesn't matter where they send you, they're worth it.

As far as being "Uber" in the open world... no, there are no "hard" patrols. And your damage is scaled back a bit as it is in Hard missions. But.. that said, the stuff there tends to be easy in general, and you WILL be considerably stronger than low levels, compared to Hard... in other words, imagine your damage is scaled back in both cases, the newbie's damage stays the same in both cases, but what you're fighting is weak and easy in one case and challenging in the other. You'll make a bigger impact compared to the newbie against the easy stuff. I dunno. I say just don't worry about it, honestly.

So far as I can tell, they've put considerable effort into making it so that you can sort of just head out and do what you feel like and have a shot at decent rewards, no matter what level- with the tougher stuff obviously weighted more but nothing ever becoming totally irrelevant. Some people have complaints about the loot system's randomness in general, but within the confines of that system, I've got to say I think they pulled it off at least to some extent. I wouldn't have been able to say so confidently if I didn't just get 2 engrams from a level 5 story mission, one of which was an upgrade. I also leveled from 15 to 16 doing a level 8 story quest with an actual level 8 on the Moon.

Blade dancer > golden gun

If golden gun is to compete with titan smash or Nova bomb... It needs a buff, there are some guardians that don't die with one shot, why must I shoot them twice when you can close your eyes, throw a Nova bomb and get 3 kills?

It's really soulless in single player, how can an MMP feel so empty and void of life?

Pretty much this.

Its starting to kill the experience for me. I have to play by myself because NO ONE accepts my fireteam requests and I havent gotten a single invite from anyone else to join theirs.

I feel like im playing a game on kids website where there is no communication allowed...
