Fighting Games Weekly | Sept 8-14 | Fining Nemo

It is bizarre to see this cult of thought around that character... guess the internet can generate those every now and then.

Shared madness. Collective insanity.

No way they will implement a requirement that you have to own both games to unlock characters. But crazy people will cling to all remaining hope.

Good job on that OT man.

Thank you!

Man, if it's a thing, there's a hater for it.

I feel like dudes in their mid 20's or less will dislike the roster more than older people. I mean, I'm 27, I grew up playing games like Mario, Sonic, Megaman, Punch-Out, Pac-Man, Duck Hunt, and now they all are in the same game! That's mindblowing for me...young people wants more Pokemon and fuck those old ass game

Good job on the OT btw, and it's good to have you posting here as well

Thank you too! :) I have been lurking this threads a lot but I just have no place to say anything. Now I do with Smash.

I'm in exactly same group with you. I'm old gamer so I appreciate the franchises even more because I grew up with them. I'm definitely mind blown by those characters being in the same game. It's something that we wouldn't imagine long time ago.

Apparently Rise can do a ton of damage in Ultimax. 10k with resources (probably all of them).

Yeah, I'm liking it too. I especially love how Sakurai is throws in a really old classic character in each sequel.

I think the only one I'm bummed about being cut (for now) are Ice Climbers. They were very unique, but I guess Rosalina and Luma will have to fill some of that role.

I'm totally bummed about Ice Climbers being cut despite the fact that I loathe playing as them. It's just a huge omission to the roster. Ice Climbers has became Smash Mascot, but not in same boat as Cap Falcon but still.

Not saying that it will happen, but, even tho it wasn't a fighting game, there IS a precedent of Nintendo doing exactly that.

I can respect people being disappointed, but some really do go overboard. Specially those Ridley people getting offended because he's not in the game after Sakurai "teased them so much" despite the fact that said teasing only ever existed in their own heads.

Ono had a meeting with SCEA. Maybe about Deep Down (since it wasn't confirmed for NA yet) or could be something else (Sony got exclusive content in SFXT).

The GBC/N64 Mario sports games. It's the entire reason the GBC games are literally impossible to fully 100% on the VC.

That's a little different though, isn't it? Being able to use your custom characters from the GBC version in the 64 version isn't the same as requiring both versions for an unlock.

Not entirely, connecting to the N64 version unlocked content in the GBC version that was otherwise unavailable.

Really, I just liked using his bair. The move looks so good and would probably be good if it hit people instead of tickling them.

Yes I know he's in PM

I'm glad to hear you of all people say this. You were hating so hard leading up to release that I didn't really expect you to give the game a fair shot.

I never hated on the game at all. The average Smash fan just interprets my criticism as hate because I don't share their enthusiasm for the bells and whistles and fan service aspects of the Smash games. It's all about the mechanics, and from the bit of time I spent with the demo, I'm confident in saying they're more interesting than Brawl, at the very least.

But then agin, I've been saying that since E3.

*shrug*

I don't remember that in Golf. What was the content? Was it in Tennis, too? I never had the GBC version of that.

Well I'm talking about Tennis here at least. Connecting to the N64 unlocked 4 characters, which in turn unlocked their minigames, and then said characters were needed to unlock at least one court. Meanwhile in the N64 version it unlocked the player characters and multiple courts.

Interesting. I never got Tennis because I thought it didn't have the same character transferability that Golf had. When you unlocked the characters in Tennis 64, did they have your stats or was it predefined?

Tennis sounds busted, but I didn't and don't have a problem with the way Golf handled things.

I was more referring to how you insisted that the combos couldn't be real and that the pros giving good impressions had to be fooling themselves. Still, appreciate that you gave it a fair look.

I'm honestly still skeptical about the Up Tilt combos, but they're legit for now. We still don't know what changes were made to DI and we probably won't know until we get the retail version. Talking about balance in any shape or form at this point is silly.

Truth be told, much of the impressions surrounding this game (including my own) are more of the ilk "Wow, this game really isn't as shallow as I thought it was going to be!" - mostly from the Melee crowd. Expectations were very low, and people are pleasantly surprised. I think some people are taking that surprise and running with it: turning it into an effusive enthusiasm for a larger potential they so desperately want to be there. Mostly the non-Melee crowd.
