Wait, they only drop on Dust Palace??
Ugh. That's pretty much the only strike I didn't enjoy at all.

I was informed that someone saw Hawkmoon drop in the Crucible. And I've gotten some of the armor outside of Dust Palace myself. So I'm thinking it's not actually exclusive to Dust Palace.

That said, I actually like Dust Palace. The final encounter actually feels like you make progress instead of just "Ugh I want this big stupid thing to die already"

yes and no.

yes. it's embarassing when a much touted project falls flat of delivering a superior experience compared to exsting franchises.

no. because Destiny is not a 60$ retail game. It's more of a 150$/200$ game. and it's more of a digital game. one you want to have on your hard drive at all time.
Even under Activision, I think the marketing team has been reasonnable in how it presented the game. In the commercials it's more about the team work, the friends, the fiends and the action than the boombastic story driven campaign.
As far as the Lore is concerned. It's so-so too. There is a ton of lore. It's just presented in-game, subtly, or via Bungie.net.

for example, do you know many games that introduce MP gametypes through factions when said factions have a satisfactory reason to promote deathmatches? Halo tried it with the computerized training thing but I think Dead Orbit launching Guardians in order to gain control of remotes places makes more sense and is a funnier (thus superior :-) take

I do expect both the matchmaking (full fireteam as default is a requisite IMO. ATM the game suffers from ODST firefight no matchmaking level of missed opportunity) and the lore exposition to be much improved by the time Destiny 2 hits.

If you look carefully at the lore, although it requires attention to learn it, it's very cohesive. much more so than Halo or other franchises I think. especially for a game 1.

Thing is I bought a $60 game with no word other then two dlc's being announced, like a lot of games seems to do, and while I did not expect a story mode as big as halo has due to all the online aspects and such, I for sure expected more then a few hours of door hacking, defending and what must have been 5 cut scenes, only three of them with any kind of feeling.

The lure being mostly on bungie.net is a bad approach, halo 4 made this mistake with it's terminals being outside of the game once you unlocked access to them, I actually gave up hunting for them after finding that out.

Also holding back content for a slow trickle release isn't the best way to manage things, phantasy star universe for a lot of stick for doing just that years ago because sega wanted to slowly release content every week, content already in the game just hidden away behind servers saying yes and no.

I have no attachment to any npc's in the game, even the speaker feels empty, he gives you a little talk about what happened then that's it.

I was not prepared for the moon strike... That strike effectively kicked my ass for a while. I ended up coming back to it after I leveled up a few more levels... I got good at reviving my teamates on that strike.

There was one moment in my last run where both teammates were down and a fresh new batch of Witches and Knights had just entered the battle. I had every single gun of the level firing at me as I did nothing but run around, sliding and half jumping and double jumping to avoid the incoming fire. Felt like forest gump running through the forest. I somehow lived though and the other 2 guys resurrected ... then effectively dropped like rocks again within a minute.

Eventually I knew I had to turn my guns on or else just simply get overwhelmed because the enemies kept pouring in. So I unleashed Golden Gun, killed 2 witchers. Threw rockets in random directions, got lucky with one shot and killed 2 Knights and that helped tone down some of the incoming fire. Then picked off some lesser enemies with my sniper rifle. Of course, this is all with no help and the boss trying to take me out every time my head poked out to where he could unleash on me lol.

Intense as hell battle. We won and I walked away with 0 deaths. And forgot to hit Share to save the video. FML

Kind of. PvP mostly IMO.

The game kind of seems...thin on content then, no?

I mean, then it's pretty much like you standard shooter. Short single player, and the draw is the multiplayer.

I kind of thought there'd be a ton of co-op stuff with piles of loot. Sort of like Diablo

Awesomness.

Intense as hell battle. We won and I walked away with 0 deaths. And forgot to hit Share to save the video. FML

I had a similar match. Just barely escaping death to revive my teamates so many times. Doing the same things to get away for just enough time for my health to recharge and revive again. I ended up having the least kills at the end by a good margin, but I really think it was my selfless bravery that won that match.

I had a cool moment where I realized I could use my high impact sniper rifle to 'control' the Archon boss from one of the Venus strikes. By spacing out my headshots I could keep him stunned for around 6 seconds of uninterrupted firing from my teamates. Pretty nifty.

if advertising for the game was done by people who took drugs forcing them to tell the truth, it would be :

fuck never ending Hollywood plot style games that end up convoluted after 2 sequels so we'll do it because it can be fun to have some crazy characters or nice story beats to pump some more adrenaline into missions but we're boys. we like guns, space and playing with controllers. Buy this game, have a beer, play with your firends from the comfort of your coach. rinse/repeat. We'll fix you some dinner along the way.

Love, Bungie.

Fuck the lore dude, I'm an astute sci-fi reader and I can tell you that no story featuring space warfare or such is life-changing literrature. There are other books to help you get a grasp of what humanity is.

Bungie just wanted to make a cool sci-fi world in which you frag and brag with your friends. Destiny is way more inviting/enticing than Halo when it comes to co-op replayability.

also be patient and look at Destiny wikis and such to get a grasp at the lore. It's easier and faster than the grimore cards and pretty sweet all things considered.
leaving stuff to imagination/debate is the key to good lore-building.
Halo by 343i has greatly suffered from their willingness to put everything into perspective whereas I just wanted more stories and more variety out this IP.
Destiny's lore is well aligned with their goal to create an enduring campaign focused on replayability and connectedness. it's only 4 days after game 1 has released.

So weekly and dailies don't have matchmaking? Almost level 20!

I also finished the story and it was terrible. I know it's there to set up the future Destiny titles but it did very little for me.

While thinking about the iron banner does anyone think that the difference on armor level will be rather minor? someone with 1000 defense is most likely only going to need one or two auto rifle bullets extra over someone with 800 defense, and since all the gun perks carry over to normal pvp right now is there really going to be much of a unique difference?

Dayum. I thought the vault of glass was only a level 24 raid. I've just hit level 20.

Is it possible to get up to level 26 in the 10 hours or so I have free to play before Tuesday? If so what modes should I do?
I've been stuck on 24 for a day and a half so I doubt it.

I can understand the decision to not include matchmaking in Raids (though I don't agree with it), but the exclusion of matchmaking in heroic strikes and daily story is a very poor decision in my opinion, and isnt defendable in the same way.

The argument for no mm in raids was that the amount of coordination would be too much for a random group (we'll see a bout that), but the strike and story missions have literally almost no coordination, its just shoot and stick together.

This is either an artificial barrier to prevent people from getting the rewards too fast, or bungie thinks most of its player base are frothing idiots.

I really love Destiny, but I strongly disagree with some of the decisions they made for this game. If they really want to put up these artificial barriers, they MUST put in better in game social tools to allow players to group up. Even something like mm where you can view a users info before you sync up would suffice. I fear Bungie is doing more harm than good to its franchise with this decision.

Really enjoying the mmo lite style of this game. There is no way I can put in the kind of time that I did in WoW with my job, wife and a kid on the way. Destiny, at least right now, is not requiring me to grind/farm for items and gold.

The strikes are extremely fun and it looks like Bungie is going to keep adding more. Hopefully the raids are even more interesting and fun.

What day is the weekly reset?

Also is the 100 marks cap separate for vanguard and crucible? So in a week I can get 100 in each?

Look upon this gun and weep for your sanity...so cool

Unfortunately once i get it all leveled up and awesome it will no longer be useful in pve because there will be legendary weapons...problem with this game is you get great weapons and they are out of date immediately

I'm still rocking a level 9 Warlock
and a level 6 Titan that I am leveling with my wife
, so I have A LOT of work to do tonight if I want to get involved in some of this weekend's fun.

I've really been enjoying the game thus far, but I also loved the Beta and Destiny is, shockingly, a larger/richer version of the Beta. I am saddened by the vitriol toward (not the constructive criticism/discussion) Destiny that I perceive is happening here.

I am in no way a Bungie defense force member. I despise the lack of SpaceBeards for example and blame everyone at Bungie for their anti-beardism and I am assuming they're a bunch of lack-beards and dandies. In protest my Warlock is completely hairless and my imagined story arc is that he wanders the solar system taking out his anger of not being able to grow a beard on the minions of the Darkness. His depression runs deep and he regularly returns to death by falling off of cliffs and repeatedly getting murdered at the Crucible (my K/D ratio is quite low). Maybe one day, the follicly challenged folks at Bungie will get off their high-horse and give us what we deserve: SPACEBEARD!!!

Bungie, if not for me, do it for Riker and our male Guardian's ability to pick up space chicks.

Really like the PvP, at least at a first impression. Feels like Bungie nailed the mix of Halo/CoD that both Reach and H4 tried to do and failed.

Getting constant upgrades is cool. Once you're at the limit of what you can achieve in game it'll slow down a lot.

Played the game a bit more and I am finally starting to understand it. I do like the team death match but as a level 9 titian it's tough. Played 4 games that went something like this.

12-7
5-15
5-12
10-7

In call of duty I don't feel like a have a huge disadvantage when I am I lower level. In this game I do. Perhaps I should have picked a better class than the titian to start with. I Am supposed to have more armor but it certainly does not feel like it when I lose every fight.

I found the crucible much more enjoyable once I figured out that it's pretty important to use the map.
Exactly. Looking at the radar every 2 seconds is just as essential as looking at the minimap every 2 seconds in Starcraft 2.

bought this a few days ago to play with a bro who moved to DC

pretty awful pve, but the pvp is tolerable at least

wish i didn't waste $60 on this but at least i'll be able to game with my bro on occasion

so much yes.

Most connceted games are MMOs on PC which have keyboards attached and no plateform segmentation to deal with.

Destiny needs an infrastructure shake-up with the help of Acti big pockets and MS/Sony willingness to sell their new consoles. The way the game is supposed to be played vs how friends lists are populated/can be populated kills some of its fire.

Destiny misses one thing Halo had. the ability tho shape networking/social infrastructure decisions from a console manufacturer.
Pretty sure Bungie knew it but it required pull Activision neither had nor wanted to leverage before the game had made some money back.

also, I think random matchmaking will be more widely accepted/sought at once most players are lvl20 and the story is done and dusted. Many people don't get into random fireteams for fear of doing stuff that's better left for later or done under a certain order.

Is anyone else picking up random stuff during PvP games? I picked up a Mote of Light just now, and I saw on the screen update that some guy found a Legendary Engram. What is going on there?

EDIT: Maybe my Mote of Light was because I gained experience .. ?

These are my personal feelings on how to win as a titan, so take them as you will. Yes the problem starting off is that your gear really isn't good enough. I run now with a Sahara-AR3, but the lower level versions work nearly as well. AR is the only good thing for your primary (unless you are on a big level or are really good with hand cannon). As secondary either shotgun or sniper (some people like fusion but i don't)

The sahara is good because insanely fast firing speed (fastest you can get it fills the bar up) and nearly no recoil

Yeah you can have 100 in each. On the map, the vanguard and crucible symbols have a progress bar that shows you how close to the cap you are.

The game kind of seems...thin on content then, no?

Yes. I feel like the beta was almost a quarter of the whole game.
I'm near the end of the "story" and I have quite a few problems with the whole thing.
There is no real story. Its basically just some short audio that is telling to run to a certain point, kill a few enemys, deploy ghost and done.
The problem is that the whole campain already feels like dull farming and I was hoping for a good story, some epic set pieces and cool quests with interesting and divers objective and when you finished that story you have to start farming. But nope, no story, no cool quests, feels like farming right of the bat.

Another thing is the scale of the world. The areas are cool and beautiful, but not that huge and its just four. From the marketing and the way they talked about Destiny I got the impression that this game is going to be huge, but its actually very, very small compared to other similar games.
A few hours for the shallow campaign, maybe an extra hour of exploring for each area and you've basically seen everything in the game.
The strikes are also kind of disappointing. You run though the same areas you run though all the time, so they're no really dungeons and near the end there is one door or something you can go through thats not open when you're not in the strike mission and behind that door is a bullet sponge boss and these bosses are just the same enemys you see all the time, just bigger and with much more health.

The thing about all this is, that its really fun because the gameplay is undeniably great but I can't help but beeing disappointed because there would've been so much potential.
Why is there no story? Why are there no interesting quests? Why is the world so small?

This could have been something extraordinary, but its just a good shooter.

It feels like they spent 5 years on designing the gameplay and 10 months on the 4 planets/moon one weekend on the story.

Calling all Hunters....

I happened across an Uncommon Helmet that has a scarf/snood over your mouth/nose. Combined with the hood of the cloak, I look like a Space Bandit. It's very sexy.

Has anyone come across higher tier examples? At the moment I'm guilty of form over function when it comes to this damn helmet.
