So who else played the beta and saw these criticisms coming from a long way off?

I was very underwhelmed by the beta but still thought most critics would award it with 9/10's just because it was a massively hyped game from a prestigious developer. We've seen that happen with a bunch of disappointing games like GTAIV and Uncharted 3 to name just two (both had perfect scores from many publications).

I'm pleasantly surprised that reviewers are accurately scoring this game so far.

Interesting how most outlets give it a mediocre-good score reasoning that it might improve in the future. Thing is, I'm having fun regarding the whole gameplay aspect but as a whole Bungie promised more than they delivered. I hope they take the criticism and improve on the things they got the the most complains about.

I have such a hankering for Phantasy Star Online now. Is it even possible to play?

I need to find a time warp to 2001.
People run private servers you can log into. There's also unofficial translation mods for PSO2 out there if you'd like to go that route.

Reads like they are in a rock and a hard place and buying time.

Keep their integrity and piss off Activision or rate it high and piss of their readers

I don't see where you're reading into it like that. If you watched the video the tone is pretty much an average of what it is here on GAF (not this thread in particular). It's a really enjoyable game, but the depth is a bit lacking and it feels like Bungie really pulled up short in some things. You also hear that some love Crucible, some don't, but agree that those fully spec'd exotic weapons give a clear advantage in mp over the lower leveled stuff. And finally, one person was a bit concerned that they are already a bit burnt out, but overall they seemed to be enjoying it all the same.

And keep in mind IGN is a big enough outlet that Activision will suck up whatever IGN gives the game. They need them, just like how the publishers still need GameStop and cater them with DLC despite going on record in saying how they hate the used game market last gen.

So, today I saw a article (Digital Foundry), where they say that the Xbox One version of Destiny is running almost identical to PS4 version, both at 30 fps. So, the obvious question...

Why Destiny on PS4 isn't running with better fps? 45fps? 60fps? Because it's pretty obvious for everyone that the PS4 has a considerable advantage in terms of horsepower.

It's easy to understand that Bungie searched for the parity between the platforms, mainly regarding to FPS.

yea that is a bunch of bs too. but it makes sense though....otherwise pissed off xbone owners wouldn't bother buying the game. parity makes total sense

My advice to Bungie would be praise the people that are behind the technical background of the game like the programmers, graphics designers, and show the door to those in charge of gameplay and story design.

Solid foundation, poor implementation.

I'd add two things there as well:

1) Bungie today is way different than Bungie of yesterday. Halo: CE was made by a relatively small group of people. A good chunk of those guys are now gone. By 2008 that small group had grown to 120 employees, today they have 500.

2) External strife. Here's a great article/interview of Bungie's studio manager after the split from Microsoft: http://www.develop-online.net/analysis/single-player/0116057 There's a lot of really eyebrow raising lines in there in light of what Destiny turned out to be. For instance: "We’re going to make the games that both gamers and us ourselves would want to play. If that makes us successful from a financial point of view then awesome, but we’re not going to do it the other way – target being profitable and see what kind of game we could make to do that." I imagine Activision had their claws far deeper into this game than we'll ever hear about thanks to nondisclosure agreements, antidefamation clauses, and all the other general anti free speech stuff that gets put into contracts.

It doesn't help that Blizzard seems to have had an unhealthy influence on this game. I'm sure there was a good idea at some point years ago behind Destiny. It seems like it's been focus tested into oblivion though.

Instead of firing them, I say force the game designers to play through all of Halo: Master Chief Collection and document their experiences.

Why would xbox owners be pissed off? Isn't it expected that multiplats will have higher resolution or framerate on PS4? IMO the exclusive content is more upsetting than a framerate or resolution difference.

What became of Activision holding back reviews? That just seems incredibly shady, as if they knew the scores would be low.

They didn't hold back reviews. They asked review sites to wait till servers were up to get the full MP experience. Or so they say. Whether you think it was a conspiracy because of lack of faith in product - that was the official line.

Ps4 owner and I don't care.

Game looks gorgeous and doesn't drop frames, zero technical complaints. Also 30 fps could very well be a design choice, maybe they couldn't consistently hit 60 so just locked it at 30. Either way I'm not fussed, I guess if it looked more obviously gimped my opinion would perhaps be different.

Yes I Agree that the game runs well, but for me, remains a feeling that I could be playing with better quality.

It's the same feeling when we play a game on PC that is locked at 30 FPS.. like mickey.

The reason why there are 500 employees at Bungie is because they house their own QA.

I want to like Warframe but I find the mechanics of it to be such a mess. The basic gameplay is great though.

what do you mean by mechanics? Like the parkour stuff?

game definitely is a little rough around the edges but once you start a clan dojo with a bunch of friends and some of the latter content like Void missions it becomes really addicting. And the devs are constantly adding new features/gear on a steady basis.

I'll probably be playing this game regularly until MCC releases.

The hunt for an amazing new gen new ip continues?
I think Titanfall is amazing, and Watch Dogs was pretty good.

GTA5 coming out not long before WD and raising the bar for open world games really hurt WD I think. I mean the story was pretty meh but aren't most ubisoft games? expecting a masterpiece story from Ubisoft is expecting a bit too much. All in all, the game wasn't bad at all IMO.

Instead of firing them, I say force the game designers to play through all of Halo: Master Chief Collection and document their experiences.

And the Metroid Prime Trilogy; especially the boss fights. The boss fights in Destiny are just frustrating and not fun and require no strategy whatsoever

So who else played the beta and saw these criticisms coming from a long way off?

IT feels so good to be justified if only a little right now. I echoed Giant Bomb's review with a passion during the Beta, and everyone called me hater then. And the exact same excuses were made then that people are making now: wait for more content. Waiting for more content for me was pointless when I didn't care for the game on a fundamental level.

I'm wondering if I should still get this still or Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil edition on the PS4. Any suggestions? I don't have a lot of money so the most I'll be getting for the rest of the year is either LBP3 or CoD: AW :/
