Wait, why are they having a gathering in England? Wouldn't it make a lot more sense to have it in Scotland, or am I missing something here?

I guess it's meant as a "WE LOVE YOU SCOTLAND PLEASE DON'T LEAVE WE'RE NICE TO YOU" stunt.

What next, tomorrow Better Together announces it's haggis day and gets high end London restaurants to serve special meals with it?

i dunno how uk could still want scotland with all the shit there talking atm, id tell them to fuck off even if everyone votes no
Earlier I said I'd be more than annoyed at Scottish yes voters, but I can live in peace as long as I am never reminded of it or am negatively affected by any bullshit Scottish economic policy (assuming the UK is dumb enough to be dragged into a currency union - which I'd vote against if it was ever put to a referendum).

However, I'd have to cut out the Scottish comedians I usually watch/listen to: Frankie Boyle/Kevin Bridges. Not to mention any TV/film set in Scotland.

Ultimately it comes down to avoiding triggers, which the aforementioned things are. That may seem weird to people but I have always had difficulty managing my anger and this is one of the ways I deal with it.

I don't get why everything on the no side is seen as a cynical ploy by yes supporters. In my opinion the SNP have been guilty of hiding of a lot of their dodgy policies and economic plans behind nationalistic hyperbole. They're as manipulative as any side in political elections/referendums.

A lot of Scottish people live in the south of England and I'd assume lots of non-Scots that live there would like Scotland to remain part of the union too. They don't get a vote so I suppose this is the next best thing.

You really need to take a break from this. This sounds incredibly unhealthy.

I think that's actually a better idea than I think anything that BT has come up with!

Was that celeb really David Beckham in the end? For realsies?

tbh, i'm not far behind him and I am scottish. And as I said before in this thread, I feel disgusted to be scottish right now.

The whole farce just makes me fucking angry; I've had to quit my facebook for the next few days just cos it's a damn echo chamber right now.

Fine, if you want a horrific Better Together style idea, WEAR A SKIRT TO WORK DAY! The Scots love their kilts, show them our support!

I make a terrible no supporter.

From this? I'd have to take a break from life.

There are a number of things that bother me to an extreme level and they're being completely ignored by yes supporters. It frustrates me immensely that Salmond and the SNP are trying to drag British tax payers into this mess by demanding a currency union without our prior approval. He's playing games with the core aspects of his country's finances and people just cheer it on. The fact that he won't discuss any realistic alternative to it should deeply concern people but the fact that it doesn't?

That aspect of it is just too much for me to get past.

Just saw John Olivers bit on YouTube.

Looking forward to see what the new English flag going to look like!

I'd imagine the English flag would continue to look like this:

Makes sense. Seems a bit pointless, but hey.

David Cameron to wear a different kilt on Thursday, and tell us to vote 'och naw'.

That may seem weird to people but I have always had difficulty managing my anger and this is one of the ways I deal with it.

No offence, but that much is apparent in many of your posts in this thread. There's an intensity behind them that just doesn't come from a happy individual.

People aren't voting Yes or No as a personal affront to anybody, there's no need to feel it in those terms.

Avoiding triggers is one thing (is this thread one?), but I hope you're trying other stuff too. It's bad for your health, this anger lark.

Is anybody staying up for the overnight results thing or just catching the result in the morning?

I've got work the next day.

How are the results being announced? Does each constituency announce it's results individually like a general election?

If the coverage is just people talking shit and footage of people counting votes for 10 hours until finally someone pops up at 6am and announces the result it'll be pretty dull.

They'll pop out gradually, but I Dunno how many different counting regions there are. GE's are fun because there's so many of them that you get a machine gun rattle of results all night. I'm not sure it'll be like that here, I think it'll be one result then Dimbleby treading water for a few hours whilst a fluffer keeps him awake under the desk.

The Yes rating is Yes Scotland's 'difficulty' rating they used for the regions when campaigning, with 10 being extremely likely to vote Yes and 0 No.

I've got work the next day too, but I'm probably going to stay up as late as I can.

Yeah, not just that but according to a list I posted earlier in the thread, Glasgow and Edinburgh are the last two areas to announce. And those two areas are large enough that they won't be able to declare one way or the other until they're in, making the whole process of watching the results come in pretty pointless! I'm still going to watch though.

Edit: ^^ that thing that Sage just posted is what I was talking about. Still don't know where it came from though.

(This is philosophical Buddhism, not strictly religious)

I do think it has been very evident that you are personally this in a way which seems slightly peculiar. I mean if you are going personalise it, do you have any clue how any of these things are going to impact you on a personal level?

Cool, thanks!

Also, I just realised that a book I'm writing at the mo will require some ammends if Scotland leaves on Thursday. For that reason, I implore you all not to vote Yes. Thanks.

will we have a decent picture of how things are going by the areas done at 2.00 am?

the av referendum was such a foregone conclusion i barely remember

Cheers, always nice to have an official source. Someone on a different forum linked it, but just to the image on imgur.

The last four places called, estimated to come in at 5:00am, comprise 26.6% of the electorate. There's basically no way the result is going to be called until they're in.

Not really, some of the bigger areas don't report until later. Glasgow in particular could tip the balance.

Can't wait to have my dreams crushed and status quo maintained

Don't worry the status quo ain't happening, there's a metric ton of shit heading Scotlands way in the event of a No vote. Watch for the block grant to be cut and replaced by "revenue raising powers". i,e we'll continue to take your Oil and Gas money but you get to put up Income tax to maintain the status quo.

Is this a repackaged "If we vote No England will punish us for having a referendum" ?

Do people think it's a good time or a bad time to visit Scotland?

Was planning on going in October, not sure how any of this affects it now

No, not really. A cut in the block grant (the Barnett Formula) was always coming as it's based on the spending down south, but any increase revenue gaining powers will be offset by further cuts. That's been a pretty consistent point from England. Nevermind that Scotland runs a lower deficit in general that the rest of the UK when Oil is factored in which is another major hurdle as the UK government refuses to allocate the Oil revenue as Scottish income despite over 90% of it coming from Scottish waters (it gets put in some lovely extra-regio category basically to prevent the Scots from realising just how much of it there is, with the lovely bonus of the Daily Mail and Telegraph getting to tell us how we're all subsidy junkies supported by England when the opposite is more true)

At the risk of repeating myself

Depends, according to Better Together and the UK media, if there's a Yes vote we'll have devolved into a mad max thunderdome style society by then so I suppose it depends on your view of Tina Turner.

Ah yes, can't wait for that too.

I wish I was oblivious like some of my friends.

Two countries enter.

One country leaves.

Welcome to the Referendome.

No matter the result - I'm going to be disappointed on the 19th...

I was hoping for the Apple Edinburgh store to open for launch of the iPhone 6, but that's looking unlikely now. I should have just pre-ordered online =(

Some stuff on Newsnight with the Spanish Europe secretary. Talking about how any new member would take the five year process, take the Euro, seems to go against the Article 48 thing that's preferred.

According to stuff from Twitter badly written up by me.

I still can't believe there isn't a rock solid plan for the currency. Mind boggling.

Well there is on the Scottish side. They'll use the pound, BOE will act as a lender of last resort and the status quo will continue until they either make a Scottish currency or join the Euro. If the UK doesn't like this then the Scots won't be paying any part of the UK national debt and they'll use the pound anyway.

This part astounds me, utterly floors me in it's insanity >_<

I need to get away from all of this, but it's impossible to get away from.

It was always going to have to be the Article 49 route.

Anyone telling themselves otherwise was kidding themselves. (or others.)

That's not to say that there wouldn't be some negotiations on fast-tracking it, that's in the EU's best interest.

But 18 Months? Hell no, that's not happening.
