Murdoch has bottled it the Sun won't be coming out for Yes. He only backs winners and right now he can't be sure of which way the vote will be.

That's true and I suppose I should have said that this was a 'story' from the start of the week and these things can spin on a penny in terms of execution.

Apparently they open them to verify them but they're not counted until tomorrow night.

He deserves a knock on his door from plod as much for his shite mustache as his attempt at trolling.

Next question then.
In Germany the actual ballot is in an envelope (blue), that is in an envelope (red) with the signed document 'yes I voted myself etc etc..).
So anyone checking the validity of the information would still only see a sealed envelope, these are then opened after the polling stations close.

Is this different in the UK?

UK is the same unless it has changed for this referendum.

Postal ballots need to be done away with IMHO. U less you are physically unable to go to a ballot booth and write your X, it is far too open to abuse.

Bitter tower hamlets resident here BTW.

Equally, where on earth do the Krankies stand on all this. If Yes goes through, do they still get permission to do panto round the country?

http://www.bigissue.com/features/interviews/3316/krankies-interview-alex-salmond-can-sod

Alex Salmond can sod off ’cos I don’t want it. We don’t live in Scotland so we won’t get to vote and I don’t think it’s fair.

They live in Australia.

That's far too efficient and clever to be in the UK system.

I didn't actually realise that there were fourteen million of London's eight million people living in E1 until the last election. Oh well, learn something new every day!

I strongly disagree, I always vote by post. It's so much more convenient and I don't agree about it being more open to abuse.
In Germany it's been rising almost every year. Almost a quarter of all votes are postal votes.

Anything that gets more people to vote is a good thing!

I doubt it will, but as a neutral observer I hope "Yes" wins just for the epic shitstorm that will ensue. Cameron will have to resign, the pound will take a hammering and the recriminations will reverberate for decades. The follow-on effect for places like Northern Ireland and Catalonia will also be fascinating to watch.

What are the 'time of day' voting intentions of other ScottishGAF members? I'm voting first thing in the morning as I have a feeling that the whole day will be utter chaos the longer it goes on.

Loud mouthed, hardcore members of both sides babbling away, increased security, lines and lines of people. Pffft, fuck that noise.

Early it is.

The NO Campaign is getting bullied into keeping their opinions to them selfs and i find it very disgraceful to be honest. This video shows just what the YES mentality is to someone who opposes them. I currently live in Aberdeen a city that could be very divided by the a YES or NO vote due to it being the Oil and Gas Central city for Scotland. At heart im a Londoner only came up here for UNI, but from what i've seen there is a silent majority of NO voters who will sway the vote on Thursday.

Where do these people find the time to follow around Celebs and Politicians all day long to heckle them and throw stuff at them when they campaign for the NO vote. I honestly believe its because they have no jobs and the vast majority live off benefits, where as the majority of NO voters are the people that have jobs and houses and are able to make a logical decisions. The fact that the currency has not even been decided yet and the vote is in less than 24hrs just tells me how uninformed the electorate are.

Well thats my 2 cents on this whole matter

When do they open? 0800?
I'd definitely prefer to go before leaving for work but I probably won't have time. Might end up going at 4:30 when I get off work. No doubt will end up stuck in traffic (south side glasgow, smh those roads) which will place me in a huge queue.

My polling place is my old primary school which is probably not going to be big enough for the amount of people I expect to turn up. At the last vote, I was the only person on my street to have voted just before polls closed. Hopefully they are more engaged this time.

You're probably going to get a lot of shit for this, but I agree with you.

"You're disgusting, you're blocking democracy," he said.

What? That's a rather strange thing to say. Not sure I understand the reasoning behind it.

Twitter consensus seems to be that Gordon is absolutely smashing his speech, and that it's basically better than any he's ever given. Not the highest of praise, indeed, but the idea is that he's now "free to be himself" and that, actually, he's rather good at it.

One elderly woman was spoken to by a passer-by who expressed, in a friendly manner, that she should reconsider her vote.

The fuck....

She said it was not uncommon, and added: "I've also been approached by No voters saying they wish they could do what I'm doing. I'm not scared of them."

Good on her.

You cant really blame either camp for the currency issue. The entire process is ass backwards. Vote first find out what the parameters are later.

People are raving about his speech, need to find a video.

Or possibly offshore workers on their onshore rotation. (If we're talking purely about Aberdeen)

Have you ever met an offshore oil worker before? They have other commitments when ashore.

Those crumpled ten pound notes aren't going to stuff themselves into a Polish lap dancers g-string.

I had no doubt that a Gordon Brown "off the leash" was always going to be a better proposition than Brown on it trying to fill the Blair shaped hole at No 10.

I saw someone put it that his big problem in power was his Scottishness, but now it's his greatest asset. That said, I don't think he's as popular as he is credited to be these days outside of the party.

If there is a No, he would be a good person to be the leader of a Scottish focused Labour Party because no matter the outcome I think Labour are set for something of an identity crisis.

I've lived in Aberdeen since I was 17, lived in Aberdeenshire since I was born. My dad worked offshore, I work in an oil company. So yes, I've met offshore people.

One of my friends actually campaigns when he comes back home from his rotation.

Well I suppose he has to find something to do with his time before the strip clubs open.

I keed, I keed.

Nah, he'd rather go to Cheerz or another gay bar.

I do think people underestimate the split in the oil industry. Majority of the people in my immediate area are Yes, with a few unknowns and a No.

Until they figure out way of somehow stopping people from leaning on others to vote the way they want at home with postal votes, stopping any post men from just chucking them in the bin or other abuses I am against.

If people are too lazy to go out and vote then I don't know what to say. I wouldn't suggest having to go to a booth to vote is what is turning people off, it's cunts of politicians.

lmfao, okay then.
Those dirty commoners with their benefits, am I right?

I don't think they begin counting the postal ballot until after the polls are closed.

Postal count started on Monday, in North Lanarkshire at least.

Edit: Actually it's not the count per se but the verification but obviously those who do the verification have an idea of how the general voting goes.

Just as a factual aside, the state of Oregon has voting ONLY by mail.

Washington and Colorado have also started moving towards it as the only option, if they haven't gotten there already.
