Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

Why are the new cards 900 series and not 800? Weren't last years models the 700 series?

The 800 series were released as OEMs for laptops. They didn't want to confuse people, so they started fresh with 900 for desktops.

I'm slowly upgrading my PC. How big of a jump would a 970 be compared to my 460 of 1 GB?

A massive jump. At least 4X-6X the performance.

btw wasn't there a rumor the 970 is going to launch in limited supply, because shops rather want to make profit on the 980?

Heard that too. I hope it's not true, but my wallet is ready tonight to make the leap. Going fishing for the weekend, and I hope the card gets here on Monday. 4 minutes until the supposed cards go on sale. I'm ready.

Been holding onto my 6950s in Crossfire for some time now, might pick up a 970 if it is a big enough difference. If not, will wait another year to build the rig.

This my be off-topic, but I just got prompted to update my Nvidia drivier with the new one via GeForce Experience and upon doing so... I got a black screen and no sound. Just, completely cut off. I had no choice but to hard-reset my PC. Everything seems normal... but WTF caused that?

6950 didn't get a lot of the love the newer AMD stuff got with frame pacing updates. A single 970 would be a huge improvement to your gaming experience.
The GM210 is probably going to be the next Titan, right?

Man, there's a price I don't want to see
GM200, but probably yes. $1000 maybe?

Downsampling in the control panel?
Faster Cards?
Lower TDP?
Acceptable prices?

I miss the free CPU cores days.

You're right on. My entire rig is a "stick it to the man" deal; the CPU has the 4th core unlocked, and the GPU is unlocked since the model of 6950 is identical to the 6970 - minus one of the power slots being an 8 pin, but those extra pins are just for grounding.

I'm feeling mighty stupid for buying an Alienware X51 a month ago. That damn 240-330 watt power supply makes it so I can never upgrade my graphics card (GTX 645 OEM). Is there any way to upgrade the power supply in an Alienware X51?

So do i upgrade my 760 to a 970 or 980,or try and hold out another year.
Was so set on the 980,that 800aud price tag makes it so hard, especially when then 970 goes for about 520.
Is the performance increase enough the justify the extra 300$

Damn, that's pretty slick. I got the unlocked 6950. It was awesome finding out it had dual bios capabilities and could be unlocked to a 6970. Pretty sure they will never do that again.
