Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

I'm feeling mighty stupid for buying an Alienware X51 a month ago. That damn 240-330 watt power supply makes it so I can never upgrade my graphics card (GTX 645 OEM). Is there any way to upgrade the power supply in an Alienware X51?

I'm running a GTX 670 and I'm planning on getting a gtx980 on mine, hopefully it fits

Wait what!? The Gigabyte 970 that I just got is SIXTEEN INCHES LONG?! That won't fit in my fucking case! FUCK. I ONLY SAW AFTER MAKING IT THE FUCK DO I DO AHH

That doesn't sound right. Windforce cards are about 11.1 inches. 16 inches wouldn't fit in anything really.

So is the consensus that a 970 is enough for 1080p 60 for this gen when I build my new rig soon and considering I'm coming from a 580?

Just ordered 2 Gigabyte 970s. Could have picked up the Asus right away, but the cooling of the Gigabyte is just too superior to all the other cards. Might as well wait a couple days. Aaaaaaargh!

The info is wrong, card is about 11" like every other card. See pic. If it was 16 it would be hanging from the end and then some.

Gigabyte is the way to go for the 970. Coolest card at highest clock, and no noisier than the MSI. Only advantage the ASUS 970 has is that it's the quietest, but at load only by 1 dbA.

Gigabyte is the longest and most expensive though, so that might mean something for some folks.

15.9" x 9.3"

Shit. FUCK. Well, I just found out I can remove a hard drive bay in my PC (Fractal R4, remove the middle cage and move an HDD) to make room for a stupidly long card. But still, yeesh.

Here's a review of the card: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gigabyte_geforce_gtx_970_g1_gaming_review,2.html

Says it's ~30cm long, so less than 12"

I'm disappointed somewhat that after nearly 2 years, the GTX 980 can only beat my GTX Titan by 2-5 fps in each game @ 1440p & 1080p.

I was hoping for a bigger difference, but I can't say I'm not happy for myself. Plus I still get DX12.

I will tell people get a 780Ti if you can find it cheap, since you will be getting near equal performance as a GTX980.

Goddammit, the windforce pipes run vertically. I need to see how it holds up in cases rotated 90 degrees.

If the temp aren't that much difference, then I'll get it.
