Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Haven't preordered off MadCatz but that is definitely not standard procedure for like any company that does preorders. Hope it gets amended soon man, that sucks.

Yeah, pretty pissed about this. Now I'm going to have to wait however long it takes for the money to be refunded.

Ugh. Should've just waited for amazon.

Edit: Been on hold for 21 minutes so far. lol

Just picked up. They said it's the preauthorization charge to see that the account is legit and the funds should be back in my account within a business day. Gotta say this is super weird. Usually to see if the account is legit, a company will charge like...a dollar.

So I'll check my account tomorrow morning and make sure everything is okay. Fucking scary, that is.

It's not that odd. It happens a lot with small and sketchy sellers
so I'm surprised MadCatz does this :P
. They're trying to protect themselves from scammers. The money should be available to you soon, and yeah it sucks when you don't expect it.

Yeah, definitely. lol

Just hope the stick gets here before Xrd does.

Hori X1 stick in the flesh, from justin wong's instagram

just took off the bottom plate of my hss 0130 (plan was to replace the buttons but i didn't have a tool to remove the screws inside here).
i couldn't believe my eyes .. there are just two sega saturn pad hacks inside with wires soldered on the contact pads?!? what a ghetto production :D

Are you sure that was never modded? They didn't make a special PCB for those?? Lol

I finally finished modding my TE-S+ after a large series of mistakes and wasted money. It was still a really neat experience and I had a blast stumbling my way through changing the PCB, buttons, and art.

Just wanted to post this up here and thank everyone in this thread for getting me interested in sticks.

There are only two options for next-gen sticks, right? The TE2 and the HRAP4? Has anyone compiled a list of all the pros and cons of both? I'm tempted to go HRAP because of the new lever and buttons and better price point but not if it's actually the poorer choice.

Well the TE2 has the easy-open feature and uses Sanwa parts all around. You can remove/change the art VERY easily which is nice and it actually looks great without it.

The HRAP probably opens from the bottom like the rest of them and uses the Hori Kuro parts.

I believe both have button lock-out. I don't like the start button on the face of the HRAP, but that's preference.

Is there any realiable store in Europe where I could get sticks for PS3 at reasonable price? The official MadCatz UK store turned out to be not realiable at all and I really don't want to lose more money.

you lost money through the MC UK store?!

Yeah.. There were some problems with the shipping and they said they would send as soon as possible. The thing is though they first said that over a month ago and they still haven't shipped it to me and say that they will send it as soon as possible. So it is possible that I will still get it but considering how long this has gone I don't think they will send it to me.

So which one's better though? I think I somewhere that the last gen HRAPs had less latency than the TEs. Not sure how the newer ones stack up against each other in that regard. I'm also unfamiliar with the Hayabusa stick and Kuro buttons. How do they stack up against the Sanwas? I tried Googling and saw a bunch of positive first impressions but couldn't find anything from anyone with any extended play time so I thought this might be the place to ask.

Someone else will have to chime-in regarding the Kuro buttons.

As for the case build quality, most HRAP shells are just a .060" plastic shell with metal on top and bottom. The TE2 has similar materials but is a lot beefier than existing HRAPs. No idea if the new HRAP might be built differently though.

Hayabusa/Kuro was a popular combination on USF4 machines when i was in Tokyo a few months ago so i got a lot of time with the set. I actually found myself not being particularly fond of the kuro buttons, there was just something about the shape of them that didn't feel right. The Hayabusa stick though, i liked it so much that i ended up putting one in my Qanba 4

I imported the HRAP4 a few months ago and I've been playing Injustice on it since. I was already familiar with the hayabusa and kuro from the Fighting Edge (damn shame that stick is not compatible with the PS4...) and I have a modded HRAP with full Sanwa parts.

Like the poster above, I've never been a fan of the kuro buttons, they have a tendency to stick (rarely) and don't permit as light a touch as the Sanwa OBSF-30s. Let me tell you, when I put my Sanwa HRAP3 side by side with either the HRAP4 or the FE, the difference is clear as day and I will be swapping out the HRAP4 kuros soon (I'm leaving the FE stock for sentimental reasons).

I actually do prefer the Hayabusa stick to the Sanwa JLF, so that will be staying.

The HRAP4 casing and button placement is superior to the HRAP3, in my opinion. All in all, it's comfortable and sturdy. The body is narrower than a TE, which suits me fine.

Now all I need are more games to play on it!

Keep in mind the heart is 45mm and looks to be a raised button. Not at all suitable for any of the things people have suggested to do with it so far =/

I'd use it for a start button and that's it

but my next stick is the PS4 HRAP and I wouldn't do that to that bad boy

I've got a HRAP4, too, and while I agree the Kuro buttons are not as light to touch as the Sanwa I've never had issues with them sticking. I agree the Hayabusa stick is out and out fantastic, though.

I was quite used to the Sanwa buttons of my OG Hori EX, and it took me some time to get used to the Kuro. I've kinda gone back and forth on which I prefer, but i can't say I strongly dislike the Kuro by any means. They're just different, and if you're used to one type you just need to get used to the other. I ended up selling my EX and keeping the HRAP4, so take that for what it is.

Sounds like the TE2 + Hayabusa stick is the way to go then. Should be an easy install with the TE2's easy-access, right? Or am I missing anything else? Sorry for all the questions, kind of a stick newb and I'd rather just ask the experts than waste some time and money.

Hey, StickGAF, how dos the CronusMAX perform 360 to XB One? I'm keen to mess with KI on stick but I'm also reluctant to shell out the stick price for the one game, whereas the adapter I'd be willing to do.

Mostly because octo and circle gates actually give you a smaller area to hit diagonals, secondarily because riding the gate is bad for your stick and will shorten its life.

Your custom circle gate, on the other hand, probably doesn't have that problem.
Not to add to the holy war or anything but maybe just a little clarification, I'm guessing you're going off the Slagcoin diagrams? ...cause they're not entirely accurate for JLFs, mostly cause the scale is off. Here's something Kowal drew up based on his measurements for the JLF for example, which fits in line with what I've felt:

It's actually a bigger area to hit diagonals, the big sacrifice with them personally is that it makes the straight throws noticeably longer. Course I got a Kowal actuator to address that, which had a nice side effect of making the stick feel tighter despite not changing the spring.

Looking at his long ass page of measurements, while Sanwa gates are like that, it looks like Semitsu's might actually be like Slagcoin's (...except that one circle gate that is bigger?).

From the last page (Skilletor's posts re: this post), it sounds like it might have issues for a second player on 360, but I guess not a big deal since you won't even need the adapter on there.

I saw Rockband at Gamestop for .89 cents. I have an ASUS, A cronusmax, and a 360 with Rockband's lag test (which still seems kind of inaccurate to me), but I'm going to test it tonight and see if there's any measurable lag.

I also want to try the thing on my PS4. It would be cool if it worked well. It would be easier to hold out for a MadCatz Fighting Edge on PS4 if I could use other sticks.

hrap 3 for ps3 died awhile back. thought it was a frayed wire, but had a friend resolder it. turns out it was a dead pcb. are there any good sites for a stock ps3 pcb or i should grab something like a ps360+ pcb that will hopefully be playable for ps4 guilty gear xrd...

I sent you a pm Assassin. Good luck with the search.

Canadians: The Hayabusa V4 is finally avaiable for preorder on Amazon.ca.

PS3/PS4
Xbox One

Think I'm going to grab this as my PS4 stick instead of a TE2. Saves me $50 and I'm in the mood to try something new (I've always used Sanwa parts).
