Final Fantasy XV TGS 2014 Trailer | Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live

If that means rock solid pacing/combat system good enough to justify multiple playthroughs (especially if the game has multiple difficulties) you can sign me up. Shorter RPGs tend to be better anyway. Ask Chrono Trigger.

Shorter modern SE games now tend to mean that the plot is much more condensed. A larger world to travel and more/longer cutscenes might mean we get XIII-2 and LR again. Those games have like 5 to 6 key events and then we get to the finale and still managed to be longer than CT depending on your playthrough. CT contains far more number of major events than those games did.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but in every previous gameplay trailer, only two characters followed Noctis through the field and in combat.

Now all 3 of Noctis friends seem to join the battle.

Even if its the shortest Final Fantasy game, how long would that be?
No less than 30 hours. Even Kingdom Hearts game take a while if you don't rush through the game like a madman.

I just see a huge turnaround from last year to this year, and I can't believe that they're somehow gonna churn out a 50 hour game.

Less or equal to a Zelda game?

Yeah, right.

What are you saying? If you're trying to be passive-aggressive at least make it understandable.

Fully expecting this to be a short game.

i thought it was going to be pumped full of side quests and places to explore, I'd be happy with 20 hours would prefer 40-60

I wonder how they will handle npcs... If they will just be standing around like 9-5 cashiers or will actually move about a bit

Thus me mentioning the pacing. Shorter RPGs tend to be better because it's much easier to get that right. Looooooong RPGs really have to throw interesting stuff constantly to not overstay their welcome if either the battle system or the story ain't absolute top notch.

Of course if they can make the game great all the way through you can give me the 100 hour Nomura experience but I have a feeling the game has better chance being better if it was closer to 30-40.

More the merrier. Now I won't have to spend an hour trying to decide my main three characters. (Final Fantasy IX made this especially hard :( even with 4 characters)

Honestly I would rather have a solid 30ish hour game than a drawn out 50+ hour one. FFXIII suffered from that a bit.

Why do people want open world games? They're generally boring and bland, look at Skyrim. Give me a linear game with big open areas.

Dark Souls is more of a Metroid like and not really an open world to me.

I won't be surprised if we end up getting very large zones but very few of them and an unresolved story that leads on to a sequel (s).

Please don't be the White Knight Chronicles of this gen.

We sure aren't gonna see XVI this gen considering it's likely gonna be a shorter one and long develop times, I think people won't mind XV-2 because I expect XV to be really well received, in fact I expect most fans to want more of XV just like X.

Yup.

Pretty amazing. So I reckon you feel good about FFXV ? :)
The thing I've missed most about Final Fantasy over the past few years is that feeling of being dropped into this surreal, fantastical, totally fascinating world and getting to wander around, explore, find hidden items and summons, beat crazy-powerful bosses, and listen to rad music. FFXV seems like it's aiming to capture that -- and it seems like it brings back the sense of humor that was lacking in FFXIII. So yeah, I'm pretty high on this game so far.

But 12 is one of the worst modern FF games :(

even if we don't share the opinion, I still like you ;)

FF12 is my favorite 3D polygon FF...that's why I LOVE FF14 ARR so much even if I am not at all an MMO person (Yep soloed all the way to lv.20 and stopped because of course I suck at MMO level co-op gaming....)

if they managed to make XV a more FF12/14 world design I'd be happy like a mad man...

but still want a medieval setting mainline FF.....
Itou...
.....

Like I said.Dark Souls is an open world game that challenges the "big and empty" traditionally found in other games.

FFXV should boast a big scale though ,and it should convey a sense of a large world.

Dark Souls is definitely not open world, unless you would also call Metroid open world. Dark Souls' areas are:

- Hand-crafted to a much higher degree than something like Skyrim. Attention is paid to the pacing of each zone, the placement of enemies, and making each corner of the world rewarding to explore.

- Designed to be tackled in a certain order, at least in a general sense. You can't walk straight to Anor Londo at the start of the game. This allows for there to be "early areas" and "late areas" and contributes to a sense of progression.

Dark Souls is essentially composed of a bunch of traditional video game "levels", each with a boss at the end, but interconnected in interesting ways. While I love Dark Souls, I don't think this design would work well with Final Fantasy.

FFVII is probably a good roadmap for what to expect with FFXV. I could see the game starting in one of the main cities, then the party leaves the city and the game opens up a little bit, and new locations become available bit by bit as the story progresses. By the end of the game hopefully we have the run of the world via airship.

A well made game, shorter game will end up being played a lot more than an unnecessarily drawn out one anyway.

Its good design and writing that "extends" gameplay on the long run.

And more X like with the emotionally attachment to the characters and plot=best FF ever. :D

Yeah.

The game really does like it will be grand and diverse like you would truly expect of FF.

The game instantly felt like FFVII-X era in terms of the feel.Especially VII and VIII.But all finally on next gen.

I really have hopes for this game.Nothing indicates that it will be disappointing.

Yeah I really hope to see this, it's the archetypical FF format and the whole "road trip" idea works really well with that kind of pacing.

I'm going to do my best to stay from spoilers from this game before it releases. Also can someone please change the thread title to something else I find it insulting. I'm specially talking about this portion of the title "Lord Nomura giveth us His only Son so we may live".

Yup.Souls series design is for souls games and doesn't work for FF.FF is supposed to Grandiose and VII/VIII taken to the next level is what I expect of this game.

I was just trying to argue that Souls challenged that openness can be dull and poorly designed ,and so will bloodborne.

Lol. This title is gold, why would you want that changed?

Tetsuya Nomura, is it you? xD

I still can't believe that the Stella/Luna scene is a real-time cutscene .

Obviously we won't certainly have this quality ingame and there will be models swap à la Uncharted/TLOU but dear god ouch.

By the end of this generation ingame CG-Quality will be achieved.

And to think that this comes from Japan...

dude this is Square...

They are on dat Blizzard level CGI with their Pre rendered graphics.

The endgame model is gorgeous, but its clearly not movie quality pre rendered CG that Square is known for raising the bar with.

Kagari, stopppp! You're making me more sad!

So Nomura has actually been trying to show off his game at each event, and SE is like "nah bro?"

):

Nomura probably went through hell and frustration to make this game what it is.

I wish we could reach out to him and thank him somehow.

He doesn't get to finish it cause management.

Life is harsh for some people.

What's insulting about it?

It's basically insulting Jesus Christ & God. I'm not trying to start something. People are creative so someone can come up with something more cleaver. I can't think of anything at the moment to suggest the title to change to, but I'm sure someone could think of something cleaver related to the trailer.

I just see a huge turnaround from last year to this year, and I can't believe that they're somehow gonna churn out a 50 hour game.

Which is what it took me to finish Kingdom Hearts I and II. Those games are pretty linear, but have activities you can get lost in. When a game is fun to actually play, the hours fly by without you even noticing.

I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. I'm expecting more than 50 hours of gameplay before I defeat whoever the final boss is. Regardless of how fast the game could potentially be beaten.
