I just read Godzilla: Awakening. I loved that so much.
Objectively, I'm certain it wasn't that great of a book, but I'm such a sucker for Godzilla comics (even though I haven't seen any of the movies...) that I couldn't help but absolutely love it.
The dialogue was pretty dumb for the most part and the art was pretty iffy at parts (there were three separate pencillers for the 3-issue miniseries; also, there was no inker for some pretty odd reason, leading to a lack of visual clarity), but I didn't care one bit. I enjoyed it so much.
I'm glad I picked that up from the library.

I'm also in the middle of reading Hickman's Nightly News (which I also got at the library), and even though I feel like I should be loving it, it hasn't really grabbed me yet. The story should be exactly what I want, since I just read Scarlet and totally loved it and wanted more and Nightly News is a pretty similar story to Scarlet.
I think maybe it's just a bit too dense/slow to read for my liking. There's a whole lot of text on each page and it slows the flow of what should be a fast-paced book. My slow reading is probably mostly to blame, but yeah.
I do like what he's doing, I'm just not totally engaged in it yet and can't really get myself to read even a full issue in one sitting.

Have been loving Queen and Country, so picked up vol 1 of Gotham Central also. It is brilliant. Library won't have the next three volumes for another 2 months or so, might have to put them into my next IST order.

Really? I love Scarlet. I wish we got more than one issue per year. I may need to check this out.

Well, mostly in the sense that it's a story about an anti-establishment terrorist-ish organization. The writing and method of telling the story is very different though.
I'd definitely recommend checking it out though. It's really well done and visually very unique.

And is Scarlet still coming out (even if it is very slowly)? I had just assumed it was forgotten about or cancelled or something. I only read the first volume and I know there are a few more issues out there, but I really would love a whole 20-something issue run of that. I really, really enjoyed it. Bendis' writing and Maleev's art were both excellent.

I'm sorry, we can't be friends anymore.

See , Classic Harley is the best Harley to me and I miss her so that is pretty sweet

It's classic Harley with massive ears.

Haha. I was fearing this moment. It pains me to not be loving a book that you enjoy, because you have great taste.
I'm not disliking it by any means, it just hasn't grabbed me yet. I'm definitely going to finish it though, so I'll let you know how I like it after I've finished it.

Silver Surfer #5: Mostly fun book, though i'm not really attached to the Dawn/Surfer combo. Might wait for MU on this one as i'm trying to cut back a bit, anyone still reading? Thoughts?

There was an issue earlier this year, so there's difenitely an issue or two beyond the trade. But release is so uncommon it's disappointing.

I'm glad you're here. Have you see any details on NYCC exclusives other than the Pop figures? I keep coming up with nothing when I search on Google.

Not yet. I haven't seen anything announced yet aside from the POP figures and the blue ArtFX+ Nightwing. I expect Kotobukiya will have another exclusive or two announced closer to the show.

I'd say both are okay with the nod to Daredevil. Iron Fist's tone is about as dark as Spiderman Reign but i'm not enjoying it nearly as much. Daredevil is consistently good without being great lately.

^^

I still consider Daredevil my favorite ongoing but it hasn't been great recently. Each issue is enjoyable and fun to read but nothing has stood out in recent months. It's been very consistent and very safe.

In other words, they're both a waste of $3.99

Thanks. Probably won't end up getting them.

I was planning on waiting for TPBs anyway.

Read Leaving Megalopolis last night. Absolutely superb work from the former Secret Six team
This was really good. Heroes going rogue has always been interesting and captivating, and there's some pretty neat characters in this.

I wonder if anything more is planned because this felt a little shallow and incomplete. A prequel about how they got to that state would be interesting.

Kinda reminded me of Astro City and The Boys. Is anybody reading the current run of Astro City? I've been wondering how this is.

Kevin Maguire said that Power Girl print is a new one and I was the first one to buy it. If so that's pretty awesome.

Haha, is that Mr. Impossible I see?

Nice pick-ups.

Yep! He's as nuts as you'd expect.

That Booster Gold + Blue Beetle print is amazing

Awesome pickups all around

Yeah I had to get it.

I'm really digging that Wonder Woman.

You collect HeroClix? If so, post some pics! I think I have a few laying around somewhere and haven't played/collected it in years.

I love Lopresti's art. It was the best print he had, IMO, and didn't have the money to buy a commission this time around or I would have.

As to my clix, yeah, I'll try and get some pics in the near future. I have... an illegal amount of them.

what's a good place to look for comic sales and stuff?

On what specifically?

In other news someone in work today spilt what looks like an entire cup of coffee on my copy of The Black Mirror which I had left in he break room. Didn't even have the decency to clean it up.

Unrelated to this quote, those prints are all awesome that GH got. Related to this quote, Waid reallllllllllllllly lost me after partway through his initial Daredevil run, when the fun tone was immediately dropped for
severed heads and corpse robbing
and it never returned. I have a hard time dropping books when they used to be my favorites, it's how i ended up reading WATM and Green Lantern for so long. Still buying Daredevil now, maybe i'll give it up.

That's part of the reason why I don't bring things to work... I have a feeling something will happen and I'd rather not take the risk :/ Sorry to hear about your book

sillymonkey321, I always feel you're on the verge of giving up comic books for good. Like bizarro-Birdie
He's just tsundere

Not to worry, only one story in it has been good anyway.

There.

I said it.

Yeah, I could see that...started off as the fun swashbuckling kinda DD then ended up being as dark if not darker than a lot of the Bendis/Brubaker stuff.

I'm still enjoying it though, the Original Sin tie-ins were fantastic.

sillymonkey321, I always feel you're on the verge of giving up comic books for good. Like bizarro-Birdie

It's possible, i don't look forward to reading that many books and when i do they eventually lose what i liked out of them, like hawkeye/daredevil/watxm/green lantern/fables/unwritten etc etc etc and i have a hard time letting go. But i'll read something i really like, Rocket Raccoon #1 for example, and get enthused again. I need a gamefly type service that involves new releases, even though i don't like the majority of what i rent, i can just return it and move on.

I'm surprised i'm still reading The Walking Dead and Invincible after all this time, still enjoying Invincible a lot too lately, not as much Walking Dead. Invincible is the longest running title i've ever read and still enjoyed. I have given up on the Deluxe Hardcovers for Invincible after vol 6 though.

When sillymonkey votes for the BOM, he picks the three titles he hates the least. Birdie just forwards a copy of Diamond's monthly solicitations to Spike in lieu of his vote. Every book is the GOAT.

How do you folks rank Snyders Batman storylines in the new 52? I go like this:

1. Zero Year
2. Death of the Family
3. Court of Owls

I think in time we will look back and remember Zero Year most fondly. You could tell Snyder was having fun writing that story and Capullo knocked the art out of the park. I do prefer the art in Court over Death of the family but as an overall package I enjoyed Death more.

Hawkeye schedule is somehow worse than Astoinshing X-men( from Rich)

I don’t know if you’ve seen this yet but looks like Hawkeye #21 & #22 are once again delayed.

Hawkeye #21 has slipped from 8th of October until the 12th of November.

And Hawkeye #22 has slipped from the 12th of November until the 10th of December

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2014/09/20/hawkeye-slips-its-notch-again/.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME.

How on earth can Hawkeye slip again? They had months to work on these issues.
