Games you remember, names you don't

A Super Nintendo game; either an RTS, strategy or a tower defence game. It was many years ago when I rented it, and didn't like it. (The RTS and strategy genres still bore me, though I've tried many times to like them. Moreso RTS, I guess.)

Anyways: The cover had a close-up of a knight, standing in a castle (I think). He was pointing and shouting.

That's all I remember

Rampart?

I remember playing this Japanese Demo on one of my old PlayStation Underground Disc where your a dog handling this robot and you were after these Cat Pirates that were causing mayhem in town so you capture them by shooting bubbles at them. At the end of the level/demo you would fight these 3 Cats (who I presume were the leader of the cat pirate group) who were trowing bombs at me. After I defeat them they escape (with some scorched fur) and the Demo ends with a sign that says coming X month in X Year so I assume the game did eventually get localized.

Anybody know the name of this game.

Yeah, it's Rampart. Thanks.

Rampart was an arcade port and the arcade version was awesome. Used a trackball and the game played in phases, where first you used Tetris style pieces to rapidly make/repair your castle, and then in the second stage you directed the fire of all your cannons at the enemy forts (or boats if playing single player.)

Tail Concerto I'd say

Game I'm thinking of was for the PS2, you were like part of an elite space marine group and you had to go to some compound/space ship(can't remember) with a bunch of your buddies. When you got there you found out there was some kind of virus/ghost thing that turned everyone into zombies I think. Your squad mates got infected too I think and were boss battles.

my friend said the game could be Echo Night: Beyond

It's for the PS2, it had a party turn based fighting style, realistic graphics (for the PS2), and a manual from gamestop the size of a college coursepack. You could start from different storylines, one was a prince and you pretty much immediately get killed by a giant monster and wake up somewhere else.

Posting this for my GAF-lurking buddy as I'm unfortunately at a loss:

Basically, you were an animal control officer trying to catch some monster-like creature with a weird name. You'd get reports of neighborhood sightings, and you could choose to investigate, set up traps, etc. E.g., "Help! I think I just saw a [insert creature's name here] in my back yard!" I never did catch one of 'em.
Apple II / Oregon Trail era. Anyone?
Nothing? I know there isn't much to go on...

I'm not quite clear on the genre, point of view etc. Was it a text based adventure, had some menus (like Oregon Trail)? Or was the gameplay maybe more arcade-like, top down view, controlling the animal control officer?

Btw, did you mean your friend is absolutely certain it was on an Apple II or were you just referencing the specific era of home computers?

Here's what he said, thanks for the help ichtyander! I'm ashamed I can't think of the game myself as it sounds fairly familiar and those days were my formative years!

Text-based adventure with menus. Pretty sure there was a top-down view overlooking the neighborhood, but there was very little (if any) animation. The images were static, and you couldn't see or control your character.

I'm not certain it was on an Apple II; so yeah, I was just referencing that era. But I am fairly certain that the name of the creature is the name of the game.

Lots of candidates here! Are we talking 3D (like Super Monkey Ball), isometric (like Marble Madness) or top-down (like Oxyd)? Or something else?

3D
Marble Blast would be my guess
Wasn't Marble Blast but thanks

Edit: After another Google search I think I might have found it. It's called "I've got some Balls!". What a blast from the past. Would be open to other suggestions though if anyone has any left

Hi,
something around a year ago I've seen a trailer for some kind of first person puzzle - hacking game. I think you had a laptop that you could connect to the system and reprogram stuff like doors, vents. I remember player entering into console something like "door1.Open()", etc. to interact with objects. Environments looked kinda low-poly, took place in an office facility setting.
Does anyone know about this game? Was it released, or it was some kind of tech demo only?

Double Fine's Hack N Slash is the only thing that sounds similar mechanics wise, but it isn't first person nor does it take place in an office setting.

Sounds like Quadrilateral Cowboy. It hasn't been released yet.

I suppose it's something like James Herbert's The Rats, probably simpler. Trying to search from different angles but I'm turning out empty. Was the game by any chance in another language, as in not in English?

Ok I'm offering a prize for a successful naming of this game.

I remember seeing a demo vid, I think on Kotaku, but can't remember.
It was a 3D type tactical shooter that was turn based, I believe. I also think it had a female protagonist, and an anime type look to it. I remember seeing a lot of stairs, and I think you fought against enemies with some kind of tactical sniping or shooting mechanic.

I remember the demo fighting scene at night, I think there was an anime-type glasses girl.

it is not legend of alfur. Or the cutesy game where the little moeblob blows up giant walking teapot robots.

Depending on the success of me being able to purchase this game for PC, I happen to have a spare Wasteland 2 steam key laying around. So...plz halp

(disclaimer - if the game is found, but I can't buy it for some reason or it's not on PC, there is still a lesser prize available, for easing my mind.)

Pretty recent (relatively), but Valkyria Chronicles?

no, it had more of a cyberpunk or near future look to it instead of a retro look. VC was the other game I forgot to mention that it wasn't.

Before I start to dig and research, I want to get the most obvious candidate out of the way. Could it be Warmachine: Tactics?

Transistor? I'm assuming that's not the moeblob blowing up teapots since I have no idea what you're referring to with that.

Not Transistor, not Puella Magi Madoka Magica, not Bedlam, not DynaMarisa 3D.

no, I think it has a female protagonist, or at least you have the option. Though it may have just been part of a player roster. I also remember it having a sort of anime or manga art design direction for the characters and enemies. Not so much a western type look, and I don't think it was steampunk.

Maybe one of the Front Mission or Sakura Wars games? I don't know if there's sniping though...

Nope, I'm well acquainted with both of those. This one has been difficult for me to find.

The graphics are also a bit retro. Not blocky like minecraft, but sort of older gen (say PS2)graphics. It may even be a Japanese indie game. Or an indie made to look like a japanese tactical game mixed with arena battle mechanics. I remember that had some turn based or action pausing elements,

I think there was some squad warfare. The image in my mind is the player character walking on a catwalk or platform in a sort of 3d environment(like a dark abandoned high rise building), an enemy appears behind her, and then the view switches to the other member of her squad (possibly male or some no name basic soldier) who has a sniper scope screen, and was on guard from across the room, and targets and shoots at the enemy, which is some kind of small-ish robot..I think.

The thing is, Kotaku is the only gaming media site I read regularly at work because it's connected to i09 and gizmodo which I can kind of make an excuse for. I might have seen it on another site, but I don't remember. It was this year. And I have looked for the video since, and been unable to find it.

This won't be as easy as just naming a well known retail game, otherwise I wouldn't be offering up the precious Wasteland 2 key I was going to give to my best friend(lol, but if you help me, fuck that dude). (Or a lesser bounty, possibly cash ,depending). I have driven myself crazy trying to find it, but GAF has been able to pull off some amazing memory tricks in the past which is why I'm asking here.

Maybe I should make a new thread?

There are a few that I played back when Mac OS 8 or 9 was a thing (before OSX) I think the name of the company was Joshua Software or something like that and it was a one person dev.

He made a pretty addicting game that I can't find anymore its about this bat who lost the ability to fly so you jump onto these platforms that make you bounce up and you collect cookies for points because the bat apparently was addicted to cookies.

The dev also did a couple of games that were fun but I don't remember their names anymore its been literally close to 15 years since I played them.

A sidescroller with a boy or a man. You play rock-paper-scissors against the bosses. I think it's a popular game? I used to go to my neighbor's to play this all the time. It was definitely on a home console, not PC.

Alex Kidd?

Edit: There's a bunch of games so I'm not sure which all do the rock-paper-scissors thing. Perhaps all. Just figured I'd link to the Wiki and if that's the one you could find it fairly easily.

Ok guys, so I'm building an arcade cab and I'm desperately trying to find an old arcade game I adored as a kid.

My memory of it is pretty sparse. All I remember is you had to pick a planet before a level starts. There was a very lush green/blue planet. I think the gameplay was Contra style. That's about it.

I've tried Googling what I remember but it's given me nothing. If anybody can help me, I'll wish all the good karma in the universe on them. Thanks!

Try Soldier of Light, also known as Xaind Sleena.

Uhm... Not Resonance of Fate?

Or Operation Darkness?

Right, was a game for Genesis I think, you played as cops fighting on the streets, had co-op play, and one of the 'special moves' was calling in your squad car from behind you and hang it fire a missile from it's roof onto the stage...? Sure it's a pretty well known game, just can't remember the name.

Streets of Rage

no both of these games would be too polished looking. The game was very obviously low rez or going for that indie look. I dunno how better to describe it. It didn't look bad at all, but it didn't look like an Xbox 360 AAA game.

Streets of Rage, duh :)

Anyone know of a Fantasy rpg styled similar to Diablo. And you could tame different dogs or wolves in the different towns to fight along side your character

Ive been trying to find this game for years to no avail

edit 20 minutes later I find out the name of the game "shadow flare" and that it can no longer be purchased as of last year
