I think it's the cognitive dissonance involved. People (including me) are having a tough time coming to terms with the idea that a loot game demands that you buy your loot.

I never thought of Destiny as a loot game.

I always saw it as an MMOFPS with some random drops that can be better than the rewards you get, but are very rare.
Like in WoW where killing a normal enemy can drop an epic item somewhere in the world but it's not how you progress your character.

I got from 20 to 24 in about 3 hours farming the cave. But whatever, I don't see why it's such a contentious thing. If people want to farm the cave let them.

It's contentious because I see a lot of people complaining about the loot in this game, but it's always about how much drops suck.

There's this backlash against Destiny's end-game being broken because the loot is broken or the content is boring. The end-game is definitely broken, but only because it doesn't explain well enough how to play. Instead you get people playing it like a different game and being frustrated it's not behaving how they expect/want.

I honestly have no idea how you get to light 27 simply through rep gains at this point in the game, and it not take that long.

I had 13 strange coins from playing the game normally, so I bought an exotic helm. I manged to get ~70 vanguard marks per week so far, so I bought 2 legendary armor pieces. I had a blue drop turn into legendary boots. So my armor is exclusively purple & yellow. Since i'm not farming the treasure cave I'm getting the planetary mats I need to level up my legendary gear.

And because I'm not farming the treasure cave, I'm doing bounties. The bounties gave me an exotic pulse rifle and got my Vanguard rank up to 3, so I got a free legendary auto-rifle. No RNG, no decrypt. Just here ya go, guardian.

The systems really work together and encourage a variety of play and I always know what I need to do to get my next piece of armor.

I think it's just a different trigger for some people. Seeing that purple orb pop out is thrilling for some in a way that buying it isn't.

This is a fair point. But reducing the whole of Destiny to a slot machine of treasure cave shooting seems like it's doing the game a tremendous disservice.

Just play Clash and go with the OP AR/Shotty combo. Assists count towards it too so it's easier than you think.

I think another problem is how much I like the fusion rifle, and don't stop using it even on maps that are bad for it/much better with shotgun. It's like the only gun in Destiny that actually feels future/sci fi, and watching bodies vaporize is part of that. In small spaces the shotgun is just better though, as is the AR in larger spaces.

You sure about that? I once saw a guy go 0-16 in Rumble.

Well I can only tell from my own experience. And even if he didn't kill anyone, it could be enough to just do some damage.
All I can say is that I sat there with controller in hand, watching anime and occasionally jumping around/running around and dancing and then it kicked me.

It's very much like vanilla WoW. It makes sense considering one of the design guys is a vanilla WoW fanboy.

I think I'm finally getting burnt out on Destiny. Gonna take a break, do other things, play other games.

After 2 weeks I am Light Level 27 and have a Legendary Weapon. I only got the legendary Weapon in PvP. all of the other gear I bought from vendors and it was 100% farmable and I just did what was the most fun at the time (Strikes, Daily, Weekly, PvP, whatever).
I never farmed a stupid cave for even 10 minutes only to complain about bad drops.

I REALLY have no idea what people are about who claim the loot system is broken. It is random, yes, so what? You can get pretty much perfect gear after 2!!!! weeks of playing what is fun. No Cave-Farming needed.

I just need to farm now to upgrade all my Legendary stuff, but that is like mining in every other MMO and actually is kinda fun, just change the locations, throw in a public event here or there. After an hour take a break and do some PvP or Strikes (which give you rewards towards gear) etc.

A fact: In WoW Vanilla (counted from the day it launched) you got your first epic probably after 2 months of playing very very much, I didn't see people complain back in the days.

And about the "Bullet-Sponge" bosses. I don't know, if the boss just dies after a minute that wouldn't be much of a bossfight... The adds keep the fights interesting enough most of the time.

Yes, I like the game, so could you if you stop the cave-farming loot-hungry stuff and just enjoy what the game has to offer, you will get your Gear naturally.

I'm only lvl 22 and I tend to agree.

I also fail to understand people complaining about legendary engram's. It is like a loot bag. Super rare to get and that's why its purple.

My first legendary came fro. A blue engram and I'm sure as hell not mad about it.

actually if you do not damage enemies you count as afk. I watched some anime while idling in rumble for my daily XP bonus and would just dance in spot but the game kicked me after a few minutes for inactivity even though i jumped around a bit.
False, I quite often just drive around the map on my Sparrow to farm gear.

Even though I'm a boring person? :p

For Super Good Advice? I did it all in 40 minutes Saturday night since I knew Xur would leave.

Nah, for Bad Juju.

I only just got the bounty on late Saturday night/Sunday. Xur wasn't even around when I got the damn bounty. I'm just pissed that I've got to sit around with this thing in my inventory a whole week. I've got less space for bounties now.

Eh. It feels like a loot game in the early levels, higher levels are wholly dependent on loot, and Bungie hyped up the loot aspect pre launch. It's a loot game. Just... not a good one :P

a) You sure he didn't get an assist?
b) You sure it wasn't me?

;D

a) Not unless running into walls the whole match nets you an assist :P
b) Not unless you spend your time running into walls the whole match! :D

I think what it does is count the amount of time you're not doing anything, and once that hits a cumulative threshold, you're kicked for being AFK. If you rubberband the controller, you're technically still doing something the whole time, even if it's not productive.

well ok, but i still got kicked for inactivity even when i jumped around, danced and got killed by enemies. so, i don't know, maybe I was unlucky. I only did it once after all.

Is there a Sunsinger Warlock here that can explain to me why they feel it's the better choice? It seems as though most of the high level Warlocks I've seen post on here go with that subclass and I'm curious to see why in case it convinces me to switch over from VoidWalker. The self rez is nice and I can see flame element grenades being useful more often than void damage ones, but what else? Also, how good/noticeable is the boost you get from the super? Better be good to lose that beastly fireball.

Looks like he just maxed out legendary gear. I could probably take him.

You can only equip one exotic armor, so yeah, of course he maxed out the rest of his legendary gear to get to 30.

It is a little surprising that he doesn't use an exotic weapon, but maybe he doesn't have one that he likes.

I think I'm finally getting burnt out on Destiny. Gonna take a break, do other things, play other games.

I'm not exactly burnt out but I lost the fervor I had.

A few days ago I would rush home everyday to maximize playing time, even resorting to buying quick microwave/frozen dinners because I didnt wanna waste time cooking lol. I did everything I could to play as long as possible.

It has slowed down considerably though. Now its like meh, I'll hop on Destiny and make some progress.

Maybe I'll get the new FIFA and take Destiny breaks with it

Am I the only one that kinda likes hanging out at the loot cave? It feels like one of the most social places in the game. Not to mention that it's not only shooting into a cave. You get the public events that spawn there and the random war cluster fuck which can be a lot of fun and absolutely CRAZY with a lot of high level people there. I'm not hanging out there extensively, but I'll probably spend 15-30 minutes there to cool off between challenging strikes/missions and just to hang out.

I didn't say that!

I said you you were emotionless. Admiral Puppy laughed.

Honestly, I think I was just burned out that night since I played for 5 hours already by that point.

I was one of the most talkative people in the GAF crucible team I played with on Saturday.

I don't know. Borderlands to me is a loot game. A loot pinata game.
With Destiny, I never once felt that "oh that enemy should drop a big pile of loot! OY why didn't he????"

it also just really doesn't FIT the game in my opinion. Like, Borderlands is slapstick. The enemies exploding into huge neon glowing piles fits perfectly. But Destiny is a bit more somber than that. You can get a glowing engram here or there and things drop ammo, but it just doesn't look and feel like a game where a giant Hive creature would pop open and 20 guns fall out of him.

Damn a Rare Sparrow from the Vanguard costs more marks than a Legendary weapon? Why?!

Because Sparrows seem to be the only thing in the game budgeted correctly from a legendary standpoint. Getting a rare/legendary sparrow actually takes some time.

I think it's the cognitive dissonance involved. People (including me) are having a tough time coming to terms with the idea that a loot game demands that you buy your loot.

If it didn't then sellers would be useless, and earning marks and rep (and by extension, bounties) would be pointless.

I'd rather have loot drops be stingy and earning viable rather than one or the other have no place in the game.

I think it has to be constent movement in order not to be kicked. I'm running tests on it today to see if afking while at work would be possible. Haha reminds me of the old Runescape days.

I farmed the cave for the first time yesterday, and I spent a ton of time doing it. It's repetitive, but you're right, the public event that pops up there is a nice diversion, and the war between factions that erupts can be absolutely insane.

This game would've been glorious if it was a full-fledged MMO with a subscription plan.

Uh, that's what the $20 DLC packs are.

Lol, now that you mention it, it really is the most social hub in the game. You even have a bunch of 5's running around above the cave probably wondering what the hell is so interesting in that cave.

Raidiance is awesome in both PvP and PvE. Yeah, you lose nova bomb, but you are able to spam grenades. Because of this, you are able to basically spam numerous grenades that may as well be nova bombs. That's if you go with Solar grenades.

I personally go with sticky grenades in PvP. That + long lasting radiance + overshield you get when you Scorch someone = a monstrosity of a killing spree.

So basically, Sunsinger gives Warlocks a defensive boost and a way to one-shot multiple people, as well as a way to control the train with Solar grenades.

I should copy/paste what I wrote earlier today when people say to stop cave camping. tl/dr: drops should be a good way to get random legendary, buying should get you the specific item with the perk that fits your build and even the right color.

Right now, neither of those are true.

I'm currently still with rare's just because I'm waiting for the vanguard faction to rank up, I run the cave to do bounties and get materials and either way those things are going to be incredibly boring I may as well just stay in one spot and do them as quickly as possible.

Random drops are fine up to a point but chances are you'll be hoping for some incredible luck to perfectly complement your weapons and armour to gain the bonuses they offer, I have enough marks buy my missing legendary items from New Monarchy but they don't offer what I'm after like boots that allow me to carry more auto rifle ammo. The issue comes from ranking up each faction to obtain the perfect balance, obviously it's meant to take time to do but it's so incredibly dull and slow to achieve that people are just hoping for lucky drops instead.

Eh. That's what the Engrams are for, right? Providing a reason why your enemies are dropping loot besides "they're secretly pinatas." They made the narrative "out," and then refused to use it.

If it didn't then sellers would be useless, and earning marks and rep (and by extension, bounties) would be pointless.

Not so. Special customization options like titles, lore, various emblems, class items, and more could be your reward. Hell, they could give you special missions not otherwise accessible.

Besides. I'd rather they be NPCs with proper personalities rather than voiced menu systems in any case.

I'd be curious about this too. The self rez IS nice, but none of my party members mentioned any appreciable difference with the cooldown reduction option. I assumed Sunsinger would be the go to for raids, which is why I leveled it. But now that I've filled it out I see no incentive in group play to be anything other than Voidwalker. On the one hand I guess I'm glad if it comes down to preference, on the other, I'm struggling to see what areas it excels in.

I have come to the conclusion that increased Melee attack speed on a Titan is one of if not the most important things for PvP. I have two pieces of armor with it now and I can tell it stacks. I feel like no one can out melee me now.

But in reality it doesn't stack.

My only complaint with the game is how difficult it is to get into groups specifically for doing the Vault of Glass raid. It’s impossible in-game because there’s just no tools for it.

Anyways, I’m a level 27 Warlock, will probably be level 28 soon, Void is 100%, Sunsinger is almost done just need to get the double grenades. Haven’t played the VoG raid though I really want to. I have a level 26 Warlock buddy who’d be up for it as well.

Playing on PS4. PSN is Typomancer.

If we're honest about it, grinding 6000+ or 8000+ rep doing 10 point patrols and strikes isn't really any better than shooting into a cave. And no, a few repeating bounties every 24 hours do not really break up the monotony or speed up the snails pace. The armband factions are a little better as they consolidate marks, but lets not act like Vanguard or Crucible rank is some wildly varied, thoroughly enjoyable endeavor to be knocked out in an afternoon. You're full of shit trying to paint it that way.

I guess it all depends on your enjoyment level of the game. And, look, I legit enjoy Cave Farming as one of the many divertissements in the Destiny Portfolio. It's fun to shoot things, you get Public Events constantly, and every now and then then the field explodes in bad guys shooting each other. I just wouldn't do it for more than an hour.

I wouldn't say anyone's full of shit who I only know from a message board post because it's pretty rude, but I don't think it's disingenuous at all to say that playing different people in different modes of PVP or actually moving your character forward in an immaculately designed landscape is more interesting than standing still and shooting into a cave.

I think it's the cognitive dissonance involved. People (including me) are having a tough time coming to terms with the idea that a loot game demands that you buy your loot.

I guess. I'm trying to remember if I felt the same way about Bornerlands 2 when it came out, but I know for sure this game is more interesting, loot-wise than Diablo III, as far as my personal tastes go. That loot could have been anything. All I looked at were the green or red arrows. You could barely see stuff on your avatar and all you really were doing was spinning in circles. It was like upgrading a Geometry Wars ship.

Obviously, no one would agree with me, Diablo III is storied and amazing, but I am much more invested in my gear and loot in Destiny. I figure it's because of my overwhelming obsession with aesthetics and design. So I don't mind having something in my sights and working towards it. Even Bornerlands would just throw stuff at me and every thirty or so things it'd be something great.
