Seriously. I'll hit level 28 once I upgrade my raid boots and I haven't received one piece of usable gear from an engram.

The loot complaints are absurd.

Really? Cause I havent earned shit from strikes, only from engrams dude. I get no rewards from strikes like usable gear.

if you haven't received one piece of usable gear from an engram

then maybe the loot system is kinda busted

lol

I've only opened maybe five legendary engrams. Random drops are not the way gear progresses in MMOs. Period. The game isn't Diablo and isn't modeled on Diablo so I don't understand why everyone thinks it's Diablo.

The Cryptarch has went from an incompetent Engram decrypter to a straight troll.

Me: Oh sweet I got an exotic out of a purple engram! My second Exotic after 45 hours. Yay!

Wait a minute..... What the fuck.........

The same Rocket Launcher are you serious. That is some calculating bullshit right there. I actually respect the commitment to find new ways to create despair.

The same exact thing happened to me with the same exact weapon.

uh no

trash mobs dropping shit that level 24 bosses don't is a great identifier of a bad loot system

pretending it isn't bad does nothing but make people feel better. it is what it is. admitting its trash and that it must be actively worked around by using a gimped and poorly thought out vendor system is just being honest

people get awesome loot drops from hallowed enemies all the time, but the normal enemies have a chance of dropping them too.

And a lot of these mechanics in this game are put into other "mmo-like" games. Hell, the reputation is a lot easier to get in this game then it is in other games

There's no point in just outright denying this shit has problems. I got a ton of time in this game but holy fuck man... its just frustrating beyond understanding when you see yourself fighting against their poor design choices.
I have 170 plasteel and I never farmed once, Plasteel is worthless.

you can use it to upgrade gear!

There will be no "mass exodus". The vast majority of Destiny players have no idea what the loot cave is and most likely still have yet to hit Level 20. Perspective. Majority of gamers are not like Gaffers.

Well, honestly, the game composition and content itself will probably lead to an exodus as time goes on. I do think until they fix things, the loot cave keeps many coming back.

Also, I do not think most people I see at the cave are GAF members.

It is pretty sad, that the most social aspect of the game right now IS the loot cave. lol. Fuck the tower, the party is at the cave. If they had proximity chat, it would be banging.

There is also one of the better game play moments at that location. After a certain period of time, all of the AI converges and attacks you from all sides. A bunch of slowly increasing strength enemies converge. It is one of the few times where the shear number of enemies can make you feel that there is some randomness in the attacks and game play.

"Good thing?" You mean a purple engram, yes? These have a ~66% chance of being a blue item, and for armor items succeeding that roll, a 66% chance of not being for your class. Ruling out class item engrams of course. And if you're looking for light progression you need to rule out weapon engrams as well. It seems like it's a fine option for people with good luck but pretty dangerous to describe as any kind of guarantee.

RNG itself makes it likely- really, almost ensures- that for everyone who receives two useful upgrades from the cave's engrams drops in an hour of farming, another person out there over two hours has received none. I don't like to participate in any system where that's a possibility unless absolutely forced to, and in Destiny I rather fundamentally am not.

Yes, a good thing. Based on my half hour sprints at the cave (I show up just in time for a public event, and leave after the next event) I average 4 chances to decrypt a purple something, and of those 4 at least one is either a legendary weapon, or a piece of legendary armor (sometimes junk). Multiply that out to two hours, and that's 16 chances, and about 4 hits. Of those four, at least one I would consider "good", either a weapon I don't have, or armor for my class.

Even the "junk" can at least be broken down into upgrade material for that future legendary equipment. It may not be perfect science, but when you double that up with getting xp, rep and marks all in the same go, it's damn good.

Crazy theory: the legendary engrams don't decrypt to legendaries precisely because Bungie knows they can't stop all of these exploits and they don't want people getting tons of legs per hour.

Hmm, here's a thought. Instead of making patrolling at high levels all about murdering grays, why don't they allow people to go to an instance with level 20+ enemies. I mean, it's not like everybody's in the same planet instance anyway. You could then make grays drop nothing, and make legendary engrams more likely to turn into legendaries.

Most MMO's have guaranteed drops for things. You beat this boss and one of these 3 items has a 100% chance to drop. The idea of consistently rewarding players for accomplishing something challenging isn't some casual, crap system. It's basic common sense in modern game design based on simple psychological ideas. If someone feels rewarded, they will want to repeat that process. It's the very reason the loot cave is popular.

And the repetition of the grind in MMO's is seriously helped by the proper social aspects in those games, like real chat, guilds, etc. Things that Destiny can't use to distract you from the more mundane parts in its current state.

Constantly trying to use the excuse of "It's just like MMO's" doesn't work when those MMO's do the things better than what Destiny has in place.

I mean, you have people comparing the current state of loot/grinding in Destiny in 2014 to the launch of WoW in 2004 and saying "Can't believe people are complaining about Destiny!". There's a reason WoW isn't like that anymore! There's a reason that the systems in the game evolved over the course of 10 years with the knowledge of how people played the game and how it could be improved, in addition to overall improvements in design sense as game development matured. Having to compare Destiny to the WoW launch to make it look favorable should be a big fucking tell that it isn't in a great place!

lol you'd think that Luke and all of his thousands and thousands of hours he played WOW Destiny wouldn't have the loot problems it has.... Even though he did he's a Raid designer, and the raid is well done but still.

I think a few of us are thinking this about both of you at this point. You guys should probably both just drop it before it gets any more out of hand. You both realize you are insulting each other on a personal level over... cave farming?? Lighten up fellas. Lol.

And its not an MMO.

Its like a bad mish mash of all these genre's, but master of none.

The game is supposed to be based on acquiring loot but the loot sucks and all the shits too repetitive.

Crazy theory: the legendary engrams don't decrypt to legendaries precisely because Bungie knows they can't stop all of these exploits and they don't want people getting tons of legs per hour.

How about then making the legendary drop rates even lower?

Does it make the most sense that after maxing out your Exotic armor piece, to then put shards into your boots?

Just because you likely won't be swapping out boots for different builds since there aren't any Exotic boots (that I know of). Whereas if you put shards in your helm, chest or gauntlets you may find an exotic piece for that slot.

Am I wrong in thinking this way?

the mmo argument doesn't work for destiny because they drop the ball in a lot of fundamental areas if that's their approach

a trash mob dropping an item that lies on the end of a week long exotic bounty is absurd.

I'd love to see strike bosses bursting into shiny engrams. Killing them would be much more enjoyable.

About the farming i think thrash mobs should drop thrash loot. And strikes, patrol missions, story should be the way to get better equipment.

Strike bosses always drop a little 4 sided die thing that either boosts glimmer for 10 minutes of exchanges for 200 glimmer from the Cryptarch. That's awesome too... right?... right?...

You can only put on one piece of exotic armor at a time, so having a leveled up legendary for each slot isn't a bad idea.

Edit:

Don't all hand cannons so that? At least, mine do.

Some take people out in 2 headshots. Namely the ones with the 4 clips.

I just want to make sure I'm not being dense here, you're talking about dice rolls, right? You don't KNOW one of those four, or one out of 8, or whatever, is an upgrade for you, right? Or is there something different about the cave (haven't done it but have sampled other engram farms)? If you have bad luck, can you still get nothing, or is there a variable I am missing?

This is how farming should really be viewed, in total you are getting plenty of useful stuff outside of the wheel spins.

Whats with the cave haters? At the end of my session i head to the cave, while i wait for the faction war and the pub event i shoot stuff in the cave and do patrols :),I Play mostly pve and never got anything good from strikes and daily events.
Try it before you bash it.

When i remote play at work at lunch break i hang in da cave ;).

Nah bro dont you understand this is how they designed it so its all good man. Its just not for you.

:p

Defender subclass for Titan needs a buff.

The bubble shield has ONE area of influence, just ONE, and all the enemy has to do is just not enter it. Compared to all the other unforseen one shot kill specials, the bubble shield is just terribly terribly underpowered.

I've had guys get inside and kill me. I've had guys just hulk smash it. I can't tell you how many times I've had blade dancers just casually come inside and chop me down despite my damage resistance abilities.

The bubble shield should do significant DPS to any enemy who comes inside of it.

Armor wise, the buffs of the class barely do anything in PVE.
I really wasn't feeling my defender Titan at first but I just love her now. I play mostly PvE and it is a godsend at times for me and my team. It's also a bit of a safety crutch for me as I feel I always have a "get out of jail free card" as long as I don't wait a second too long. Granted, I don't have a powerful offensive weapon for certain bosses but I can usually manage to stay alive when everyone else dies. I can also run in and revive you safely (usually) and in crazy instances where we're being run over, I am a beast inside it and can melee everyone who follows me. It's also fun to lure the boss inside of it then his shots can't hit you. That's often enough time to get everyone to safety or recharge my armor. I stick with Striker for pvp although it was fun a couple of times to lay the bubble while capping a point.

A friend cleared some bounties for me during lunch, but I don't know how many are left. I'm going to try and hop on around 5CST and clear the rest. Will be ready by 7 hopefully. Realized tonight is the last night to do it so I'm all in to get it done.

That Titan Shield damage stacking sounds interesting.

The shield damage stacking is legit. The Fireteam I was on was able to beat the Athean before he got enraged. It took us five times being sent through time before he went down. It would have been four but one of our teammates was killed.

Yeah, and ANY level "elite" enemy also has a chance to drop those exact same items. Really makes it feel special when you get the same item off a lvl 22 strike boss as you did when you beat the first elite you faced in the game at level 2.

Jesus this game really does not want me to hit 28. I've gotten at least 6 Ascendant Energy today - but 0 Shards, which is what I need and want.

I've had the exact same problem with level 26, only one damn shard away for the past couple days.

oh look another ascended energy or strange coin... Just what I needed.

This baffles me.

"oh man that boss was tough, let me go collect my Black Wax Idol that I NEVER USE."

It would be so much better if 3-5 engrams popped at the end.

Is there a thought on which piece of Exotic armour is best? Boots, Gauntlets, Chest or Helm? or are the differances cosmetic only?

Imho his wasn't the case at first. I think - but have no evidence - bungie countered the cave to some degree with this massive attack from all sides. There are even yellow enemies coming in those mass fight waves.

I really like this aspect and the possibility of the game to change such variables on the fly without patching.

It just game. Why they heff to be mad.

well they should have just made them like reeeeeeaaallly fucking RARE like realllllly rare... Its better than lying the the gamer over and over... I think it would have been a better system if like only 1 or 2% of players has found a LEG engram so far and you fucking know when you do you have a legendary.

why don't you use the glimmer consumables?

The differences are anything but cosmetic. You need to look at the individual piece to choose what's best for your build.
