You want to know something crazy?

I'm level 25, have played a hell of a lot of this game, and haven't even finished the story. Not only have I not finished the story, I haven't even made it to Mars.

I actually love this game, will be playing it for a long time, and I think the mechanics and gameplay are a blast. But I have no interest at all in playing the story missions for some reason. Like they are the worst part of the game in my opinion.

I have played the story twice now. Its eh.. its a primer to the world and it serves a purpose but man did Bungie drop the ball.

As far as the gameplay goes.. I am actually really worried. I was addicted to EQ and WOW for sometime and I already feel myself getting that way with Destiny.

I'm level 24 and haven't gone to Mars yet either. I liked the story missions, just got hooked on the crucible, heh. I should probably go to Mars sometime soon though and get it done. But now I need helium from the Moon so Mars is like pretty low on my priority list of things to do in the game unfortunately.

Not just your opinion man! Story is awful. Game is fun though, something about it is just addicting

The crucible needs to be balanced with the winners having a higher percentage of getting something cool, but keep the lower performers at the same percentage. If only the winners get rewarded then eventually no one will play. Right now everyone can have something to look forward to, whether it's dominating games or possibly getting some cool loot.
no problem with this, just bear in mind "Statistics mean nothing to the individual"- matches where the dude goes 20-0 and gets nothing and the person with a .20 k/d gets an exotic will still be possible unless the odds are adjusted so dramatically as to guarantee loot.

What you guys hoping Xur gets this week? I'm sure most of us have some strange coins saved up.

I want that Achlyophage Symbiote hunter mask and Suros regime AR.

I randomly received one from a legendary engram, my Titan broke it down for shards.

word. good point.

I wish there was a way to, say, take two raid pieces and use them to upgrade your chosen armor piece to max light. I'd really like to be able to choose my endgame gear based on aesthetics, as silly as that might seem to some people out there.

The entire purpose of PvP is to compete and win. It's mind-shattering to me that they add random loot rolls as rewards for every match and suddenly the only reason to succeed is to get better stuff for it.

Do you mean the Raid gear?

Besides that, there is plenty of potential for progress just by putting in tons of time if that's what you want to do. But I figure when I'm 29, I will be playing less total during any given week then before. I mean, I have to, right? I can't keep this up forever. I'm on a fucking Destiny IV drip. I'll tone it back at some point. Right??

On an unrelated note, your MH reference cracked me up XD I've been continuously comparing Destiny to MH, Tri in particular, in my head throughout my play experience so far (I love both games).
Destiny is way, way, way more generous and easier to progress in for me

It's not that it's the entire purpose, but the fact that people can afk and not actually play and have the same chances as someone that's trying to win is ludicrous to me. They go on about earning gear etc. Make special crucible exotics that can actually show off people were doing well in the crucible. They acted like these things were supposed to be an accomplishment, what accomplishment is getting last place in the Crucible? =p

Also I didn't just mean raid gear. I meant the fact that everything that has a semi-decent chance of giving you something nice is timelocked. And really, that only amounts to Nightfall and the raid.

I'm not talking about general progress. That's easy and handled fine. I've had full legendary since week two. But now it's purely praying for nightfall or the raid or the cryptarch to give me something nice. I can't actually work toward the things I want, because there's no way to do so. I want a Hawkmoon or a MIDA or Monte Carlo. And there's no way to actually earn these things. It's pure luck in a very unsatisfying loot system x.x Diablo 3 never told me "Welp, you tried, sucks for you, come back next week".

We have those vanguard strike playlists gathering dust if you're capped on marks, and that aren't even very satisfying for that when you're wearing legendaries. Public event farming is better and can at least give you ascended mats... Dunno, there's just a lot of stuff that doesn't feel right to me about the actual endgame. The early endgame was fine, but once I got past that and into full legendary, a raid clear etc... it just feels like a waiting game.

Hey, that's the one I got! Only I got it from a blue drop during Patrol on Old Earth when I was lvl 18. Lvl 23 now and it's still my primary.

"patrol"

Just don't let me see what everyone else is getting. it only serves to frustrate at this point since its random.

Don't laugh :(

I took advantage of the 360/free ONE deal. And I find I'm playing on the 360 more (mainly due to convenience in our house).

I NEED 360 players...randoms are OK, but rarely use their mics or ignore my friend requests.

I wanna do these strikes and Queen bounties and I need help. Hell, I'd even be down for raids if enough people join me.

Also, if you're still laughing...I'm actually reasonably impressed with this as a 360 game (that's how it started life anyway)...its not THAT bad...its no PS4/ONE, but it holds its own quite fine.

I'm hoping someone out there in GAF-land is playing on 360

23rd level Hunter/Bladedancer. I tend to play at various times between 6 pm and midnight EST.

XBL: Macjester

I got you buddy. 360 DestinyGAF represent.

Add me on XBL, my gamertag is BLCKATK.

I'll most likely be on this evening EST.

Sorry for the delay, had a meeting and holy sweet fuck does thread move fast.

First off, take this with a grain of salt because my warlock is level 4. This is from playing against them and paying attention because they're rare.

Most important point of what I said: well-played. A crappy sunsinger is easy pickings, so "weak" isn't a surprising descriptor. But let's imagine a well played one and consider these aspects/skills that would be used to dominate during Radiance in the Crucible:

Offensive Benefits:
Grenade Spam: Massively reduced grenade cooldown means that grenades are essentially your primary weapon when it's Radiance time. With Solar grenades you can create impenetrable deathtraps with area denial; Fusion Bolt grenades can guarantee individual kills if you are accurate.
Scorch: during Radiance, the Sunsinger warlock special melee attack is a OHKO even to a fully shielded target. Obviously this doesn't make them into Bladedancers, but with a high Strength armor set, this makes them incredibly dangerous at close range- including shotgun range- for the entire duration of Radiance
Touch of Flame: During Radiance, Sunsinger grenade cooldown is... silly. You can essentially spam them at will. This skill adds: "All grenades ignite enemies, causing damage over time." This can turn a grenade "miss" into a kill from DOT, and probably quadruple the amount of Postmortem kills you can obtain when killed out of Radiance
Viking Funeral (optional, consider against Radiant Will): "Enemies you ignite burn longer and take more damage." Obvious synergy with Touch of Flame and the grenade cooldown spam. What this does is essentially guarantee any grenade contact is a kill or near-kill. And there will be lots of grenades.

Defensive Benefits
Radiant Skin (optional, consider against Fireborn, but usually the right choice): "While active, Radiance reduces incoming damage." This alone makes the Sunsinger dangerous for the entire duration of Radiance. Radiant Skin with no other action taken still allows the Sunsinger to withstand two Arc Blade strikes. If I'm playing a good one, slice at him in Radiance, and discover he's got Radiant Skin (he doesn't die), 80% of the time I go on to be killed by either a shotgun blast or Scorch.
Flame Shield: "Damaging enemies with Scorch reduces incoming damage for a short time." Obviously, synergy with Radiant Skin. This is similar to the Titan Defender's barrier melee (though not as strong). Combined with Radiant Skin (and assuming all traits focus on Toughness) this can allow the Sunsinger to survive three Arc Blade strikes or possibly even four from full health while in Radiance. It also has no tell whatsoever that I can see, other than noting the green overshield on their health bar after they get it (which, as a hunter, is merely a "Nope" indicator rather than something I can counter).
Fireborn (optional, consider against Radiant Skin): "Radiance can now be activated from beyond the grave. Doing so returns you to life." Yeah this allows you to self-resurrect. Not recommended for Rumble; having been killed "counts" toward the match-ending score, and you allow for the chance of getting outplayed by someone who sees it coming (I'm hyper-vigilant about this already) and giving out double points. However, in Team/Objective modes, this can easily turn the tide of a team fight after you go down and even turn a close fight into a massacre like no other super can. Fist of Havoc and Nova Bomb get blown and if there was someone involved in that fight that wasn't in the spot, there's a moment of vulnerability for the super user. This is like the opposite of that; an apparent moment of expected vulnerability (one less team member alive) becomes an advantage.

General Benefits:
Radiant Will (optional, consider against Viking Funeral): Just extends Radiance duration so all of these benefits translate into more kills/minute. Depending on your accuracy, this might be the better choice most of the time. Viking Funeral is extra leeway if you miss grenade throws; Radiant Will is the professional's choice IMO.
Auto-revive: Activating Radiance revives any nearby dead guardians. In Skirmish or any other potential modes allowing revival this is an absolute godsend for team fights.

Incredible, duly underrated class. Utterly nasty with skilled play, but high skill ceiling IMO. As a Bladedancer, I still hate Titans more- because if I roll up on a Radianced-out Warlock with Arc Blade active, I can just get my ass to safety by air dashing rather than getting instantly Fist of Havoc smashed or Barrier Melee Shoulder Charge Fucked.

Thanks for the tips, dude. I'm working on my Sunsinger right now so I should be able to put this all to good use.

What you guys hoping Xur gets this week? I'm sure most of us have some strange coins saved up.

I want that Achlyophage Symbiote hunter mask and Suros regime AR.

I'm also hoping for an AR or a hand cannon. Already have 31 coins so far. I don't see myself buying any armor because I already fully upgraded my sunbreakers, and I don't want to spend more shards upgrading another exotic. We'll see though.

I'd be okay with guaranteed loot for the top 3 or so. I sense the crucible bleeding players once Halo and COD come out, so Bungie needs to do their best to nurture the community.

I don't really want to get into a thing on the marketing of this game. Your position is that the people in last place shouldn't be able to get exotics/legendaries, right?

So if I'm reading you right, it's the fact that you can't make linear progress toward specific Exotic weapons, right?

I admittedly never really reached true endgame in it, so school me: in Diablo 3, when you wanted a specific unique item, how did you work toward it? Was it just buying from the auction house?

You are correct at the least that if you are capped on marks, material/public event farming is a superior option to strikes. Also still more fun with friends (and much quicker rep gain).
Just don't let me see what everyone else is getting. it only serves to frustrate at this point since its random.
THAT is the most logical solution they could implement.

Patience And Time sniper rifle. I'm not spending one strange coin until I have it just in case it costs like 500 coins.

Once I have that, it's over. I need nothing else.

Thanks for the tips, dude. I'm working on my Sunsinger right now so I should be able to put this all to good use.
Please report back and tell me how you like it! I wasn't really interested in Sunsinger at all before encountering them in the Crucible. Now, it's my next leveled class.

On the population concerns, we will definitely see how it goes. I am very curious myself.

Quick question:

I have a dupe legendary helmet that I'm going to dismantle for shards. Should I bother putting in the effort to level it up once for more when the one I'm using is barely leveled at all? Or should I just go ahead and grind it and focus that experience towards the one I'm actually going to use?

Honestly, having used Patience & Time, I think the Icebreaker is probably better. Can't beat the ammo regenerating every six seconds.

I would like to meet the magical people who managed to finish that Nightfall without cheesing.
ha! I know...

Damn sunsinger, where have you been all my life? 5 grenades on a boss is way better than a nova bomb any day.

It is extreme effective on last boss on Raid because behind the Relic Shield it boost the damage to over 2000 per grenade... so each attempt you take close to 20k damage from the last boss.

BTW I can throw way more than 5 grenades after upgrades.

But you will see the best part of Sunsinger is the Fireborn skill... it revives you in Radiance mode :P it is the most close to invincible that you will get in the game.

yep, with the xtra grenade perk you can squeeze in around 7... thread moves really fast but i posted this the other day, i've become a huge fan of sunsinger, even in pvp...

I will say though its cool how the Queen stuff added new shaders, emblems, and gear for free. And I know its nerdy but when I walked in and saw the emissaries ship floating in the tower I had a "this is really awesome" moment.

Obviously Id like more actual new content like new areas and bosses to fight but for a free update this is pretty cool. I hope Bungie keeps adding this stuff regularly.

Is it pretty much necessary to do patrol mode and search for materials if you want to level up the legendary/exotic gear? It doesn't take a ton of time but as someone that wants to play mostly PvP, with the occasional strikes mixed in here and there, it feels like a chore. I want the best gear but searching for chests and shiny things is really boring (to me).

I already feel like the game is kind of forcing me to do a public event every day so I don't miss out on the free stuff from the postmaster. Having to go search for materials on top of that is probably my biggest gripe right now.

Shoulder charge won't kill anyone with an overshield in one shot. You'll need to follow up/lead with a shotgun blast.

Yeah. In this instance there wasn't time but I get your meaning. I was just answering people saying titans could melee one shot hunters in arc blade. Just not the case.

Yes I am enjoying it. I can tangibly see how much faster strikes are being completed because of the extra damage. I miss the AoE of voidwalker, but this is a fair tradeoff.

I still think the story missions are fun, but I am level 23.5 and I have JUST started Mars.

Didn't know a ship can drop from Queen story, how did Bungie know I love purple...I'm ok with it though.

ByUNdQJIcAAfqsR.jpg
I got that too.

I've got 11 strange coins. I guess I'll need 12 more to buy a weapon off of Xur when he shows up? I'd really like to score a legendary or exotic primary but I'd settle for any slot.

The crucible needs to be balanced with the winners having a higher percentage of getting something cool, but keep the lower performers at the same percentage. If only the winners get rewarded then eventually no one will play. Right now everyone can have something to look forward to, whether it's dominating games or possibly getting some cool loot.

I agree with this compromise. The winners should just have a higher chance in my opinion.

I don't want linear progression, per se. I want the ability to actually work toward it. Remember when they made it sound like Dust Palace was the source of the PS Exclusive stuff? Yeah, that was cool. I was 100% prepared to run that strike dozens or even a hundred times trying to get an exotic that only came from there. And that would have felt awesome. Instead, most of the people I've seen with it got it completely randomly in the crucible.

Also nah, I didn't deal with the AH in Diablo 3 much(that also doesn't even exist now). But the loot system there, though also random, is still better. Because you get a rare drop and it's an actual rare drop. It may be poorly rolled, but you see that golden glow and it feels nice. You see a purple engram(this would not change if they had a different name or color... they still signify a rare drop) and it's just "well here we go, I guess...".

I would *much* rather it always be a legendary and a super low chance of exotic. It's not guaranteed to have the best modifiers. There are a variety of those that can roll on legendaries. Getting a legendary engram would be cool, and you could work toward hopefully getting that perfect roll that you may never find. That is how loot games work. They make you want to try again, not screw you at every corner.

How did you make this GIF btw? I have a similar thing to show off for the nightfall.

I got that too.

Gjallarhorn was 17 coins, I'm not really sure how the pricing for weapons works.

Need to replace my boots with a legendary and I'll finally hit 27.

PS4 ID is VibeVitor. Warlock wanting to do the weekly nightfall. Have the Zombie Apocalypse heavy machine gun equipped and an assault/fusion combo.

Can do most of the weekly/daily stuff myself but find it dull to do so.

I do wish they could of at least done different missions for the queen stuff..

Also am I the only one who just keeps re-rolling the queen mission waiting for the moon one as it seems by far the easiest one to solo
