PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | September 2014

So for my birthday my Girlfriend (featheredkitten here on GAF) decided to get me the best ever case for anything ever.

This thing is amazingly well made. You may have heard about it before but wow having it in person is completely mindblowing. An amazing case to match the amazing piece of kit.

Please excuse my dirty ass mousepad. Seriously this thing great. It even has a zipper pouch in the back that has little sewn on pockets for memory cards.

Thanks featheredkitten (I know you're reading this.)

Looks really good for long-haul traveling. Right now I use the pouch case from Sony and the small pockets for holding physical game carts really suck and I almost lost AC Liberation because of them... But it was AC Liberation so I didn't really give a shit.

PS: Buy Demon Gaze and yell at EXP for making their next RPG on XBone.

whatever you say

It is not cross buy, if you look it up on the actual store they are separately listed and no mention of cross buy.

Like I just looked at don't starve and it says cross buy in the top saying ps3/vita/PS4.

DC versions are just both on sale, but you only get one or other.

Oh, I wasn't disagreeing with Sir TapTap.

The dual listings for the PS3, separate and together with the Vita, is obviously a mistake.

PS3/Vita version is listed as separate from the PS3 version. Its either crossbuy or misleading.

Knowing Sony's track record its probably misleading.

^

A lot of the time Vita things are mislabeled as PS3/Vita because you can download Vita games to PS3 then transfer them. I am sure this is one of those times.

But yea, this game launched at what, $50 per version no cross-buy? That was a harsh price point back then! I probably would've bought day 1 if it was cross buy, $50 felt like it should've been!

What?

In English? The first one you will get is Type-0, and that's it. If you can play the game in Japanese, however, then the upcoming Omega Quintet is near, but I doubt you would want that. I know I do, though.

Actually that game does look interesting... lol

Huh? Pretty much exactly what you bolded. You can find any digital Vita game you bought on your PS3 download list and download it to your PS3, then plug your vita into the PS3 via USB cable and use content manager on your vita to move the game to your vita. Can use this to store digital games pre-downloaded but not taking up space on vita memory card, but it is in every way worse than backing up your games to PC/Mac. I guess it is useful if you want to download a Vita game ahead of time while you finish a current game that you will later delete to make space on the memory card?

Oh lol thought this enabled paying a vita game on your ps3.

If anyone from VitaGaf wan'ts to add me please do. Probably missing a few of our regulars. Name on PSN is Snkfanatic

Chilly should add me so he can rage whenever I play SAO :D

I'll add you too,
It's not like I have no friends on PSN or anything, b-baka

We can both rage while playing SAO, but not online. Because why should a game with Online in the title have online play? That would just be dumb.

The benefit of downloading PSVita titles via PS3 is that when you go to sync them it installs updates as well, downloading them via the PS3's internet connection instead of the Vita (where the download is quicker due to better hardware and/or a wired connection).

But yeah, other than that it's the slower way.

All right VITA GAF, I'm picking something up today, despite having other games to play and I NEED YOUR HELP!

Ys: Memories of Celceta

vs.

Sword Art Online.

Ys is always fun and the idea of filling in the missing areas on the map sounds great! SAO sounds a bit jankier, but I'm reading the VNs right now so it'd probably be cool to play. It costs an extra $20 though. :/

What do you think?

Ys.

Because SAO's localization is pretty terrible. And I loved what I played of Ys.

I do a lot of traveling for work and this is going to be perfect for that exact thing. The games fit very snuggly as do the memory cards surprisingly enough.

Also, AC Lib isn't THAT bad.

Fuck man, that's a tough choice. Both offer a fair amount of content, exploration, active combat and the same general type of gameplay.

SAO is obviously longer and more expansive, but also more expensive.

Ys is a better localization (though not amazing).

If I had to choose... you might have to shoot me, 'cause I can't. :/

Sell some blood and get both? lol

If you really, and I do mean really like trial and error gameplay, then yes, Escape Plan is a good buy. ONLY if you really really really like trial and error gameplay.

Trial and error by dying as a way of learning or is it a game where you know exactly what to do, but the game is hard?

Do you gain new abilities throughout the game or are you doing the same things over and over again. Also, are there a lot of challenges that are based on time or is it more about timing?

(I have tested the demo and liked it except for the touch phone star ratings)

I really enjoyed SAO (don't kill me Chilly!) but I absolutely adored Ys. Second game I platinumed on vita, incredibly fun combat system with a ton of variety as you can play different characters and they get different attacks, a fun crafting system (that is very confusing and complex so consider using a guide hah), and a perfectly passable story, though some may disagree and call it a generic JRPG story. I couldn't put it down once I started playing, the sense of speed is pretty great as well.

Kinda hard, considering both are great games.....

Ys is the more welcoming compared to the two, with combat being easier to grasp and the story not being overall fan service-y. That being said, SAO is much more deeper combat wise (at least....7 different weapon types to mess with :D), the game is LOADED with content with just getting a 40+ hour content boost yesterday, and the world being a lot of fun to explore :D. Also helps that the game is a real looker (really bright colors, I think native res and mostly consent frame rate) :). The only issue is that the story is overly fan service-y. Granted, that isn't entirely a bad thing, as it can be very funny :D, but if you watched the show, it may be a bit frustrating to see EVERY girl love Kirtio for NO reason at all (I mean, I kept screaming "Hes married for crying out loud X(" to the point I question if he even has a "I'm Married" armor XD!).

Either way, both are great games, so pick the one that draws your interest the most :).

I liked what I played of both, so it is kinda hard for me to choose one, but I guess Ys has a more satisfying story, but if people are correct, don't go in expecting old Ys, this one is more like a Trails in the Sky game. SAO has a very nice combat system, and it is huuuuge if you want to get everything, but the story is meh at best. I really couldn't choose one, they are among the games that I don't remove from my SD at all.

EVERY girl love Kirtio for NO reason at all

I mean, its not no reason, a good chunk of them love him because he actively saved them from death, both literally (the loli one from those ape things and the blacksmith one from that dragon guy in the anime) and by beating the bad guy in the first half of season 1 and letting them log out, though I guess the latter doesn't apply to the game. But there is a lot of "main character syndrome" going on, where he is the MC so everyone must fall for him to make a harem type thing.

Anyway, I don't know how much easier we are making this choice, as we have people gushing praise about both games hah.

.....I know but still X(!
Lizbeth is friends with Ausna for crying out loud and flat out told Kirto that "I'm cool with you liking her"...and now she likes him again :l? He doesn't eve like Secal (sorry if I spelled that wrong :() like that, as he saw her as his sister. Leafa just....opens the whole insist crap the second half of S1 threw at us :l (I get there cousins and stuff but still....its wrong man :(). Sinon, I can sorta see be reasonable (as from what I saw of S2, Kirtio really messes with her and sends her mixed signals) and same with Strea and Phila (the former is very open to everyone while the latter has a whole adventure with him via Hallow Area).
Sorry for the rant but still, kinda bugs me after all the shit he went through to be with Ausna in S1 just for what happens in the game to happen :l.

Filling in the map sounds fun but in practice it's a bit of a pain in the ass, especially if you're a completionist. I liked MoC, though I never got around to finishing it. Probably because I played it straight after beating Ys Seven and it was a bit too similar for my liking.

SAO:HF has a terrible localisation, but there's a huge amount of content and if you like MMORPGs then you'll feel right at home.

I dunno, they're both pretty different so it's hard to compare.

That's why I like Log Horizon and Kyoukai no Horizon more. Everyone has their own waifu, and they utilize the large cast pretty well.

Is there any notable Vita games for the remaining 2014? I only remember in my buying list there are Freedom Wars, Super Hero Generation and Gundam Breaker 2.

Wow! Lot's of support for Ys!

Does you answer change if I say I'm playing the game in Japanese? <.<;

You mean that you can understand Japanese? Then check out SAO then :). Even with the botched translation, you will get what the characters are really saying and enjoy the story more :).

Project Diva f 2nd is the only other one I can think of.

That entirely depends on whether you can read japanese or not, since many people will play both of those games solely for the gameplay while ignoring the story. But either way, my opinion is still for Ys especially given the higher price point of SAO.

I know this is off topic, but is Log Horizon like SAO? It seems to sound like it is, so it might be cool to check out :D.

As for the last 'major' Vita releases we have.....I believe Minecraft Vita, Bending of Issac Rebirth, Joe Danger 2 (if that comes this year), the games you listed, and....I'm not sure about the rest sadly :(.

I really liked Log Horizon as well, though I stopped watching it about halfway through because I wanted to wait for more episodes to be out to marathon. Kyoukai no Horizon, god I had no damn clue what the hell was going on in that show in the first five episodes or so, but I heard that this is common and I have been meaning to re-watch it. I totally agree on your points though where I like the idea of multiple pairings as opposed to MC harem and every other male cast can go cry in the corner.

Similar premise (trapped in an MMO, main character is basically jesus), very different execution (death in the game does not mean death in real life). The shows end up being very different besides the main hook, but if you enjoyed SAO I would definitely say check out Log Horizon. I have crunchyroll guest passes if anyone wants, just PM me, though I think you can watch it with ads even as a free member now.

Bending of Isaac lol. But yea, BoI: Rebirth is my most anticipated game for the end of the year, can not wait.

Thanks baekshi! Worth a try, love fighting games on the Vita!

So for my birthday my Girlfriend (featheredkitten here on GAF) decided to get me the best ever case for anything ever.

Yes! I love mine. They just feel gooooooood. Perfectly made, perfect fit, love it. Only thing I would say I could hope for is a Vita Game case that was nice and slim and could fit in the back part as I have the front full and 2 left.

Ugh, I'm addicted to PS4 Minecraft, despite owning the game on PC for years and hating it.

SK: Shinovi Versus. I guess Firefly's Diary as well?

Well if you are including JP releases, Zettai Zetsubou Shoujo, Sen no Kiseki II, Dungeon Travelers 2 (all out today) and then Ar no Surge Plus, Chaos Rings 3 Prequel Trilogy, Phantasy Star Nova, Dekamori SK physical, Dengeki Bunko FC, that Mahouka game, Great Edo Blacksmith, and a slew of VNs if you are into those.

Ugh I'm so over Destiny and it's loot randomness, I've also hit the wall. Level 27 and only way of progressing now is either spending hours farming for materials and farming for Ascendant shards to level up to 28 or doing a raid that doesn't have support for matchmaking... No thank you.

After the disappointment that it was I've gone back to Diablo to rinse off that bad taste from my mouth. Feels good to remote play that game, just lay back and destroy hordes upon hordes of enemies, all of it with good loot. Safe to say this is going to be my go to "in between" games, rather than Destiny.

Diablo 3 is so perfect on PS4, it was the Gauntlet game I have been waiting for for so long plus more. And remote play works surprisingly well as long as you play a class where you can map 2 infrequently used abilities to the rear touch buttons.

Is it because of it being based on a smaller game that it should be cheaper?
Ha! Don't even. Do you know who you're talking to?
I scoff at the price because Frozen Synapses was never a $25 game (PC pricing) and it's not a $20 game either (Vita pricing). I bought it on PC and Tablet so I feel like I know what this game is worth and I'd price it at $15. So, I will just wait for it to go down in price, like all Vita games do, and pick it up on the down lo'. I understand it's a revamped port for the Vita but the game has devalued. Also, I'm not overly fond of developers putting out hype articles without a price because they're embarrassed of it or "it hasn't been decided yet".

Yup, I'm level 26 and haven't played in a couple of days. When I go back in it'll be for PvP.
