Nvidia Launches GTX 980 And GTX 970 "Maxwell" Graphics Cards ($549 & $329)

How long are these cards?

It says the gigabyte one is 16in long? That doesn't seem right.

Most are between 9.5" and 10.5". The Gigabyte is just under 12.5"

Check official specs on each manufacturer's website if you're concerned. All of them have card size on the specs tab.

People testing their OCs should run Fire Strike and Sky Diver... If those are fine your clock is stable. Heaven, etc. are too easy on the GPU.

Sounds a bit hot. How is the airflow of your case?

I hit ~66C with 44% fan speed at 1500MHz in The Witcher 2.

With or without V-Sync? And surrounding temps are also important, otherwise those temp comparisons make no sense.

GPU-Z & MSI Afterburner is the ticket. Stress test with Unigine @ max settings. If the test fails, or your see artifacts on the screen, back down your OC.
Also, if you are going for a big OC, build a custom fan profile in Afterburner, the stock profile is always a bit conservative IMO, I like to keep the silicone cool.

Depends on your monitor setup whether it's worth it. You also have to remember that dual GPU causes microstutters.

If you want to game at high resolutions it can be worth the price and it's a better deal than buying a single 980. If you just game at 1080p though I would get one and maybe another next year if you need it for newer games or VR.

Depends on the res. of your monitor and what games you play.

Sli does have some problems since you have to wait on drivers that have custom profiles for SLI setups, but I never really had trouble with games when I had dual cards.
Thanks guys all I want is ply games at 1080 p 60 fps, I might get one 980

Damn, it won't fit into the case I'm getting. Guess I'll go with the Asus or eVga.

So here's my best attempt to provide insight into the EVGA 1.0 card. Note that I'm running this on an LCD TV so the hz will affect the score (I think).

Card seems to like 1450mhz for GPU. Max temp on benchmark was 67c.

Seems OK to me.

No Vsync, roughly 20C in the room.

It's mainly the fan speed that made me think it was a bit hot. 80% and still hitting 77 is a little high unless it's very hot in the room already.

My highest temp while at 80% fan speed is 54C, with the same card as him.

Guys, I'm flipping the fuck out. Installed my 970. Everything is great. I've never downsampled before but decided to try it with that new DSR thingy in the GeForce Experience and...holy shit.

I can never go back. I'm in love. This card...

Yeah, it looks really damn good.

The Gigabyte 970 is indeed long, but it fit fine into my fairly small Bitfenix Prodigy case without issue. Height constraints with the optical disc drive in place took MSI and Asus out of the running.
The backplate is a big plus for me since the card is veeeery close to my cpu cooler and my 670 didn't seem to like that much. I had to set up a very aggressive custom fan curve to keep it from crashing but this 970 isn't breaking a sweat using the stock settings.

Here's a crummy looking photo for anyone curious. Forgive the crazy cable management, this case is a weird one (though I've definitely enjoyed its relative portability):

I set the Windforce LED to turn on as a warning of high temperatures... it's a setting in GeForce experience that I didn't realize was there. I didn't see the need to have it glowing whenever the machine is on.

edit: Also, I'll say that the card is definitely not silent but it is quiet enough, probably a bit quieter at idle than my 670 with the reference blower was. Under load the sound barely seems to ramp up so the crazy tri-fan setup seems to pay off there.

My 970s arrived :D

Just joking, 2 of them aren't for me. Which one should I take? Which has the best OC potential? xD

After looking up some pics here in the thread im kinda worried that the Gigabite G1 won't fit in my (cheap) case.
I probably have to modificate my case for it.

Okay, so AMD might actually announce something else later on today. They're demoing some cool Occulus stuff, but I think there will be more.

Tempted to have a punt on it, although it being a reference model (albeit a good reference cooler) is maybe hold fire.

They'll probably cancel anyway, if an item is in stock and they ship it fast enough you can get lucky but errors with out of stock items usually lead to disappointment.

If you want to check out some 4k shots of Final Fantasy XIV, I posted a bunch here.

The in game weather hated me throughout me running around this morning though. =(

They are bound to realise and change the price surely?

These new cards are still messing with my rational thinking.

They wont change the price on your order, just cancel it.

Definitely worth a go. If only a few orders go through before they realize the mistake, they may honour it.

Very true, 80% fan is kind of ridiculous and should yield great temps.

Nvidia not going to support VESA Adaptive Sync

I think my boner just died a little.

I'm going to be forced to a company's GPU whenever I want to upgrade in the future depending on what monitor I have? G-Sync monitors are horribly overpriced currently.

This is HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray all over again. This anti-consumer nonsense needs to end a standard needs to be established sooner rather than later.

They better... hyping an announcement that turns out only to be that already existing gpus are now available in India = weaksauce.

Any expectations/speculation for how well these new cards will run the likes of Witcher 3 and GTA5? I'm having a hard time resisting the upgrade urge. Those 970 prices are so tempting, but I'd kick myself if the two games I'm looking forward to most didn't get 60fps with/near max settings. Still, at that price point... Argh.

Houston we have liftoff!

its a shitty picture but you get the idea. i knew the card was big but man they arent kidding. thankfully my case is the size of a small cavern and so size isnt an issue

nice case. Is that the Cosmos S? That's the one I have, and I love it.

My cards are out for delivery, and someone is at my house ready to sign for them.

So, things are looking good right now and I hope to have pictures later of my finished build. Fingers still tightly crossed.

I'm not seeing where you enable the down sampling. is it in the Nvidia control panel or the Nvidia experience?

Nvidia control panel. Manage 3D settings and then check some boxes under DSR - Factors.

There is no way of knowing how good these cards will run those games.
