Destiny |OT5| New patch out Tues., Master Rahool reportedly crying into his robes

Welp. Well I guess I'm done with the Queen's missions. I really wanted to get the helmet but after getting the same chest piece 5 times in a row and now being unable to break it down into useful mats it doesn't seem worth it.

My goodness. Just skimming over the amount of salt in this thread is raising my blood pressure.

To those that are 'quitting' because of the nerf to cave farming, don't let the door knob hit you. If you actually take the time to read the blog, they are on top of a good number of issues that have been raised about the game.

But shooting at a black hole for hours on end isn't our dream for how Destiny is played. Our hope is that social engagement in public spaces is only one part of the Destiny experience. Expect changes soon which decrease the efficiency of cave farming and correspondingly increase engram drops from completing activities.

Is this not fixing the root issue of why some of you were farming that cave to begin with? Instead of shooting at a black circle for hours, why not run around areas where there is an abundance of:

  • Chests
  • Patrols
  • Public Events
  • Materials
Such as: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7p9MLSRyTw

That way you have chances to get loot, get materials, special items to sell, and raise your reputation.

To those stressed out, Shadows of mordor will need the sales and looks really fun comes out next week too. So yeah. See some of you in the OT lol

Oh, I plan on getting that now. Before I was on edge because I was hoping Destiny would be the last game I buy for a while but...see you there, Admiral.

again, nerfing the cave isnt destroying you being able to farm for loot. plenty of other areas to do that in

That's my point. People will find other places to farm, not just those 5 they nerfed. Then they will nerf those, until they have to make a blanket nerf as new areas are unlocked. And on that being my point, you just proved it-Bungie removed choices, that's the important thing we should take away from this.

nah ARs were horrible in beta. At least all the ones I used there. Don't think I had a Shinigen, Gallahad, Hushwind, or any other 'namebrand' AR back in beta though so it is highly possible I have no clue what I'm talking bout

The Cyodonia-AR3 was a monster in the beta.

they already lied about their intent before when they said that they were reducing the majors in some of the hive missions to 'reduce difficulty'

Come on bro. That's hardly "lying". Given how open they are with address the cave exploit, I find it hard to believe they'd purposefully lie about why they changed those encounters. Glimmer farming is hush hush but cave farming is not? I guess it's possible. I still think that their statistics showed that there was a disproportionate number of deaths happening in those areas (because of the farming, true!).

As a girl playing online, opt-in is for the best.

I can understand this sentiment, but wouldn't an opt out setting be just as effective? like a button that you could hit on you character or roster page?

It sucks, but when I have been trying to put raid groups together in the past there are some people that just won't behave or think it is going to be funny to be assholes to chicks. Just last night I had to boot one so that I could invite some of my other friends into the group. Disinhibition througgh anonymity can be an ugly thing.

Topics moving fast but-

A game shouldn't hinder you if you choose to play it one way instead of another.
Well, if it's within the design parameters of a game, then I agree, but obviously Bungie doesn't want people to farm the cave.

Different games offer different gameplay experiences – that's why we have different games. Playing the game in a way that's antithetical to, say, what the developer intended isn't playing the game you want, it's playing an altogether different game.

Yea this doesnt make sense. If strange coins is a reward for the nightfall that's fine, but it should obviously be more than the weekly heroic. 12-13 seems right.

That's what I was thinking, 12 or 13 I wouldn't be so mad. 8 coins literally makes no sense. Why would the harder version of the Strike give out less rewards?

pls based bungie

the fact that I have to put myself in harms way to throw a fist of havoc while a warlock can just throw a nova bomb and have the same effect isn't balanced

Update 1.5:

Titans: New ability where fist of havoc is literally a rocket propelled fist.

Queen's Wrath dismantling was not an exploit lmao.

You did the bounty and the mission and got a legendary. That's on Bungie. What are you going to do with 10+ Helmets? Now maybe going to orbit constantly to get Restoration is something that shouldn't happen but I wouldn't call that an exploit either.

Now if they really wanted to nerf the Queen ascendant materials, they should have just made it give out 1 or nothing randomly.

Yeah it's really a bad move to nerf that. It didn't even seem like it gave all that many shards? I only got 3 from the helm.

Good thing I had already decided I wasnt going to run the Queen anymore anyway. 3 was enough for me

To those stressed out, Shadows of mordor will need the sales and looks really fun comes out next week too. So yeah. See some of you in the OT lol

So hyped for Shadows of Mordor, oh my lord!

In regards to the patch, it does suck they removed the ass shards from dismantling. Glad I got a ton of shards in my vault so whatever. I hope they do a better job of communication in the future, people have been begging about most of that shit right from launch. All I want to know is when we are getting these fixes instead of just a vague "this year". If it's as worse as Blizzards "soon" then fuck that.

Still love the game! I am completely surprised that they are going to make strikes easier, I already find them pretty easy. Only one with some challenge to me is the moon strike and that's just due to adds in the pits.

bungie said:
Voice Communication
Our vision for Destiny is that all players, even matchmade players in the Crucible, Strikes, the Tower or public spaces, be able to communicate with one another in a way that promotes positive socialization. Voice communication is the easy answer, but existing voice paradigms, including those in our own Halo games, have not done enough to protect players from abusive griefing from a minority of players.

Destiny's near-term solution will be to allow players to opt-in to voice communication during matchmade activities. Work on this feature was underway at launch and should be rolled out this year in Strikes and the Crucible.

Deja vu here. Already went through this with Killzone SF. I mean dancing over my dead body probably enrages me more than some kid talking trash to me. And in the latter case most games just allow you to mute. I can't prevent someone from dancing lol

They did what to the queen now?
God damn it. I hope all the queen bounties I had have been finished already :\

I liked stocking up on shards. Was so ready to upgrade raid gear soon.
I also need a ton of ascendent energy. I need to finish my exotic rocket launcher and I have two more legendaries ready to start eating energy.

Damn they took out the farming method? I wouldn't need that if they'd get rid of their stupid light system shit. I'm just gonna sell the game. I'm not in the mood to grind even more in hopes of getting something with more light + hoping its for warlocks. Honestly wtf is the point of getting gear for other classes if you can't even trade? So fucking dumb :/ hopefully I can get a good price from gs, if not I'll see if anyone I'm GAF wants to trade

They're "listening", and instead of fixing their loot game, they just made the game grindier for everyone, while making their "free" Queen "missions" utterly pointless to the vast majority. I say this as someone that didn't farm the cave. They should've released this patch alongside with the actual loot fix.

I agree, the loot fix should've went hand in hand with the cave nerf. Now I'm hesitant to load up the game until they fix the loot system.

How would an opt-out work when I'm in a party? Would I have to opt-in whenever I want to chat with a party in-game?

My summation. I'd rather see positive changes to get us playing they way they want, not just making the 'wrong' way not work. Loot tables on bosses, better chances for elite enemies to drop engrams, the ability to skip cutscenes...

Welp. Well I guess I'm done with the Queen's missions. I really wanted to get the helmet but after getting the same chest piece 5 times in a row and now being unable to break it down into useful mats it doesn't seem worth it.

Yeah.

Hawkian, I like you - you're my favorite GAF'er to group with and chat about random shit with.

But!

You can't honestly support Bungie and try and play the White Knight on this decision. Seriously, it's baffling that they did this. I can't think of a SINGLE good reason for them to completely remove any reward dismantling the Legendary items received from the event going on. Even if they reduced it to 1 shard or something, fine. But to make it absolutely worthless? It's completely ridiculous and inexcusable on their part.

Interesting...

He Who Shall Not Be Named
Long ago during development, the Cryptarch decoded engrams of a given color into gear of that same color. Early in 2014 we added randomness, both for better and worse, to the decrypting process. The result was that end-of-session engram decoding got a lot more exciting and the Cryptarch himself suddenly acquired a personality. Both of these experiences were positive additions to the game.

But we didn't adequately communicate the potential random outcomes of decryption. Players see what looks like the familiar metaphor of item identification, while the Cryptarch thinks he's opening a grab bag of loot. Rage sharding of blues ensues. Expect to see changes to address this soon.

Problem is that the randomness they added was not in any way "for the better" it was 100% for the worst. The end of session engram decrypting did not become exciting it because infuriating. This is Bungie trying to push a positive spin on something everyone can see is wrong. I'm sure their fix, from the sounds of it, is not going to be change the randomness but better show the percentage to players of what they might get.

Well, didn't get a chance to play this week until today, and wala, the Queen's stuff gets patched. Guess the road to level 28+ will be longer than I thought.

Is there even any point to doing the queen's bounties anymore if you already have full purples and an exotic?

I also wish instead of doing small nerfs and buffs to weapons, they would just give players 1.5x more health or nerf everything. You don't have much room to tweak things in your game when guns can kill you in under a second.

Those patch notes sound seriously perfect. Good job Bungie amd these are the kinds of steps to take to bring the game to the next level.

And I farmed thr cave quite a bit but its better for the game / community to patch that stuff out.

Good on bungie to fix farming problems, however I now have ZERO reason to do queen's bounty now, no shards? not worth it for me.

What, don't tell me you didn't enjoy doing some designed-by-monkeys bounties and then launch a random level 24 epic mission for a chance at a couple ass-shards!?

As a girl playing online, opt-in is for the best.

Definitely a perspective I hadn't considered.

I guess I'm not really sure how having the switch start in the on or off position really makes a difference regarding that kind of issue. If you want to participate in voice chat you'll turn it on or leave it on and talk to people, if you don't want to participate (because people are jerks or any reason) you don't talk or can switch it off all the way. How does that choice starting off in either direction affect the amount of people that might be jerks, considering that in either way you'll still be talking to potential randoms?

This is presuming there's an option in the menu that is "voice chat in matchmaking?"

I already feel like party chat is superior to game chat on PS4. At least you can prioritize party. Using the in-game chat I can't hear anyone when I'm firing my weapon.

So, is it just me or does the juggernaut skill on titan really, really fucking suck?

The shield seems to cut out ALL the damn time. You can't rely on it for anything.

Yup, in the same boat, had 4 from yesteday and just did 3 now. Useless. Fucking useless.

Bungie will go down as creating a loot system WORSE than launch Diablo 3.

Blizzard made things better while Bungie seems to be making things worse.

People here keep saying it will be like Diablo 3 but I don't think Bungie has the capability to do so.

Yea they are making some really poor decisions as far as loot goes. I am glad to hear they will be fixing engrams somehow but they seriously made the queen's wrath legs useless.

To me, it's really about how they patched out the only quick way to progress through the end game stuff. Now it's going to take me much longer to get to level 26 and the raid/later strikes. And there's no alternative that gives loot at nearly a similar rate.

Also, if I want to sit there and shoot at a cave for an hour, why can't I do that? If it gives me the best loot, why does the fact that it's not in "their vision" matter at all?
What if Bungie doesn't want you to quick-level through the end-game content?

We all know the loot cave was a cheat so why are we suddenly acting like it's our inalienable right to exploit this cheat?

It is a bit of a conundrum, isn't it. I could expound a thousand words on this topic effortlessly, but it's probably outside the scope of this thread.
If you ever change your mind (or start a separate thread), I'd love to read it.

Desperately looking for a raid. If anyone needs an extra for VoG. PS4 PSN: UglyPony
Level 29 hunter. Second week now i've been looking for a raid.

These changes kinda suck. Especially for a solo player who has trouble finding groups for the high level content. The loot cave and Queen's Wrath were the two main areas to actually progress in a timely manner. This is especially true with the artificial barriers Bungie put in place for Vanguard Marks, etc. Plus, the lack of a materials vendor makes it a crapshoot to acquire stuff to improve high level gear/weapons.

So all we get is a "Soon™" in our faces. Well, call me back when the updates they promised are made. I'm done, I don't have the time to play 30 hours in a week and the cave was the only thing I could do to get loot in 1-2 hours.

that's strange, I almost always get loot during a Strike, after a Strike, and the Crucible

also, all of the missions that say upgrade armor on them give you something, too

At least I got one more legendary engram from the cave before they nerfed it lol, was there for 2 minutes to finish a bounty and it dropped right away.........buuuut i got blue boots out of it =/

Come on bro. That's hardly "lying". Given how open they are with address the cave exploit, I find it hard to believe they'd purposefully lie about why they changed those encounters. Glimmer farming is hush hush but cave farming is not? I guess it's possible. I still think that their statistics showed that there was a disproportionate number of deaths happening in those areas (because of the farming, true!).

it is what it is. they couldn't be upfront about why they made a change to limit something that they didn't like and labeled it like it was a favor that they were doing for their player base

it doesn't bother me that they made the change, it bothers me that they can't be upfront about what they actually want to say

again, none of the cave stuff or glimmer farming stuff bothers me - its the fact that each are so low on the list of glaring issues and they make it a point to 'play the right way' instead of getting all of their ducks in a row

that's strange, I almost always get loot during a Strike, after a Strike, and the Crucible

also, all of the missions that say upgrade armor on them give you something, too

The loot I usually I get is trash that gets dismantled. Can't have enough hardonic essences and weapon parts!

Oh, I plan on getting that now. Before I was on edge because I was hoping Destiny would be the last game I buy for a while but...see you there, Admiral.

That's my point. People will find other places to farm, not just those 5 they nerfed. Then they will nerf those, until they have to make a blanket nerf as new areas are unlocked. And on that being my point, you just proved it-Bungie removed choices, that's the important thing we should take away from this.

they just fixed something that was far too easy to farm. i mean, come on, shooting fish in a barrel is no sport. i'm sure they have no issues with other areas where players actually have to move and aim at enemies
