Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor | Review Thread - Welcome to Middle Earf

I guess what he's insinuating with that tweet, or at least what we think he is.

Either he's hinting to the audience about his Smash review (if he's doing it) being below average from what he expects everyone else will give it or he's just being a dick and trying to rattle the cage.

Or both.

Very excited, can't wait. And to think after loving everything I saw at E3 it nearly fell off my radar till seeing the making of videos recently.

Yeah.

Neither of those are particularly flattering.

Was anxious to see how the final game would turn out, glad to see most people really liked it :) Monolith deserves all the success they can get.
I expected a little more from the story because the pitch seemed so interesting, but I guess this follows the Arkham stuff in that the games are great despite their forgettable plot.
Now if only this could come out here on the 30th like everywhere else...

It's a little disappointing that some reviewers are upset with killed enemies coming back. Seems like they don't tell you the only way to guarantee enemies to stay dead is to decapitate them. I can see how that could be frustrating.

Preordered. Staggered release date here in Taiwan, apparently. October 7th. I'm okay with this because I'm still "dope-fiending" on Destiny and still need to get around to Metro and getting my platinum on TLoU:R.

The game's Reviewers Guide doesn't tell you that? Would be a big oversight, yeah

Totally stunned by those reviews. Didnt pay much attention to the game after it was announced, never thinking it could become a critics hit.

I'm shocked that this game is getting such high scores; I'm definitely a lot more interested in going in Day 1 now. It seemed like one of those titles that could have ended up being really good, or really bad.

I'm probably going to grab it on GMG. Does anybody know if you can stack multiple promotion codes on there?

Only one code or credit. Nothing stacks unless expressly allowed.

Wait, What? I thought once a character was dead it was permanent, like a real dam* eco-system? So what happens if i stab someone in the back repeatedly and he dies from that? He has a chance of coming back into the game?

I need clarity on this.

Unless the head is off all bets are off.

On the plus side, the reviewer's problem with this rival character not dying is something that Monolith could patch if enough people have the same issue.

From what I understand, you have to decapitate said dudes to keep them from returning to the battlefield. It's probably intentional.

I had a good feeling the review scores would be decent - the devs were obviously proud of their work and weren't afraid to show off the game in pretty hefty chunks. They're actually ending up better than I expected, and needless to say that I'm in on day one (PC version, Green Man Gaming FTW).

The most shocking thing must be that a heavily hyped feature (the Nemesis system) actually managed to live up to the hype. I was expecting a solid action game with a Nemesis system that showed hints of brilliance but contained enough flaws/cracks to make you go 'yeah, this is OK, but it's still half-baked'. The fact that reviewers are pretty much universally praising the execution of Nemesis is very good for the game, and hopefully very good for our chances of getting more high quality emergent systems in future games. High quality next-gen graphics are nice, but the real promise of next-gen is making games more dynamic and less predictable, and it looks like Shadow of Mordor is leading the way.

Yeah like others have repeated, decapitation is the only way to be sure. The problem is that I'm not sure if decapitation is possible on some of the strength heavy orcs with multiple "invulnerable to __" affixes. If there's a way to ensure they kneel down at a certain health percentage then it's not really a problem. Time will tell.

That's a little weird. I guess I'll see how that plays out, but I don't think it'll hinder my gameplay experience at all.

This will be my first Platinum on PS4! Very very excited about it now the actual reviews from trusted sites are coming in.

Not a fan of multiplayer trophies.

Shame its not out in Australia till Oct 8th :(

However it doesn't invalidate any objective that he was tied to. Whatever you got by killing him (mission objective, hierarchy changes, runes, etc) still stands, but there might be a chance that he comes back on you à la "guess what... I SURVIVED", like in movies.

Which is totally cool to me.
