Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor | Review Thread - Welcome to Middle Earf

Not a port. They said it was developed as it's own simultaneous version, rather than retooled from completed console material.

Thats interesting, maybe thats why they seem to get the PC options and settings right. Its really great to see a developer that has faith in their game, they show a lot of media, never got the impression of boasting or over promising. So far, it seems they are delivering, and quite a nice surprise. :D

i'll prbly pick this up on pc as well now. Already have my preorder on PS4.

never really followed it until recently, was it that bad?

Not bad, but it looked a bit like a THQ kind of title. Meaning it would never have been just about the most praised retail title yet on the new gen. It had the potential to be great, but it just wasn't getting the AAA marketing and hype to give it Destiny or Assassin's Creed expectations, which is why it is getting compared to it's brother franchise by Warner Bros, Arkham.

They similarly did not have a massive amount of pre-launch hype for Arkham Asylum, as people are dubious of licensed titles, but the reviews and user response made it a sleeper hit.

The game looks to be well received. It's still not for me though.
It seem's like an AC reskin, with some of it's own unique gameplay mechanics.

The kicker for me though, is that the story seems underwhelming.
I'll keep an eye on this one for sale, or 2 for one/Black Friday.

I really love how they give value to death and victories. Things change, as they should if you fail or win. Even a random encounter can trigger a chain of events to a new chief. Thats awesome! Not that many games give you the chance to feel like the stakes are high or change depending on what you do in combat.

Looks reallly good! People need to buy and chant this game. It's bad enough all the press and sales Destiny has got already, don't let it overshadow the shadow of mordor. But I'm really confused, should I go next gen console, or PC? I have a HD 7970, 1440P screen.

Just watched the Gamespot video review, and the combat seems to have been much improved from the videos that they released at last E3. I actually dismissed the game then because of it's seeming jankiness, but now the animations look really smooth and cool.

Would be kind of funny if what had all the appearances of an Assassin's Creed knockoff ended up being better than this year's Assassin's Creed. I just have a feeling AC Unity ain't gonna be so hot.

But if SoM is actually good, then glad to hear it. I'll probably still wait for the price drop though.

The only reason i am very excited for Unity is because the team that did Splinter Cell Blacklist is behind the overhaul gameplay. Which i think can only be a good thing.

I'm glad this game is getting good reviews for what it's trying to do. Finally a big studio that tries to innovate game design.

IIRC those guys have rights to rerelease the existing games, but don't have the rights to make new games in the NOLF franchise.

I really hope this is a big success and kicks off a "Middle-Earth" series that explores different locales and eras. Some of the stuff in The Silmarillion would just be incredible in a game.

I'd love a Silmarillion game. In my mind I've always imagined a grand strategy game where you take control of one of the leaders of the Noldor, Sindar, or Human tribes. The focus would be on establishing strongholds, raising armies to march against the encroaching forces of Morgoth, and arranging alliances. Your lineage would also be a major component so if your leader is killed you just assume control of his heir. The ultimate goal would be to stay alive long enough for some human/elf hybrids to be born who could be sent to Valinor to plead for aid from the Valar.

Unfortunately the Tolkien Estate is unlikely to allow the Silmarillion to ever be licensed.

Sorry, went to sleep early last night so I am late to this train but...
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to play this one.

I can imagine it it seven or eight years. "The ten most underrated games of the last console generation!" Feels like we've got another Bulletstorm with this.

Man fuck fuck fuck...I so want to buy this now. But damnnn why didn't they use LOTR music. Like seriously. But this game looks great.

Holy shit these reviews are incredible. This game will be a very strong GotY candidate. When I buy a next gen console this fall, I'm absolutely getting this game . Hope it sells as well as it deserves to.

I have Destiny. I am getting Halo MCC. I am stretching it to even get one other game.

I was thinking of Forza Horizon 2 or Sunset Overdrive for that other game...maybe not now.

This was not on my radar but loving the descriptions of the Nemisis system.

What I can't fathom is the digital pricing (again!) - £54.99 ON THE XBO store or £38.99 (without searching too hard for deals) physical.

After such a close spread on Forza Horizon recently (good work MS there) this one is a huge miss again.

Pretty incredible reception. Best rated game of the season could end up being a LOTR game. Who would of thought!

Game always looked solid but you just never know. Well done!

if I had to pick, I'd trade Destiny in if possible and get this with the credit. If you're getting MCC you're essentially getting Bungies greatest hits anyways.

What last few games? They created Condemned 2 and F.E.A.R. 2 in terms of good quality based titles.

Other then that they had another team create an Arcade title and some half-ass attempt on an MMO for Lord of The Rings while the more talented crew started work on this game.

Gotham City Impostors and Guardians of Middle-earth, didn't know they were created by another team.

Dumb question, is this 30FPS on PS4? I assume so since everything is, but was just curious. Probably still pick it up there regardless since it's not something I'll care to own for forever on PC.

Are ya'll talking shit about Gotham City Imposters in here? Gotham City "closest thing we'll ever get to Shadowrun 2" motherfucking Imposters?

I am enjoying Destiny right now, and my buddy I play with most loves it. But, I could wait on MCC. Either way I will probably get one of Shadows of Mordor or Sunset Overdrive and wait for the other to drop some in price before I pick it up.

I knew this was going to be good. I chose it for my October game among so many big games, and now I know I made the right decision. I'm so happy right now.

Super-excited about this game as a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbitbut one 2 hour YouTube video I saw for the PS4 version seemed to have that tell-tale wobbly look that games with screen tearing tend to have but then sometimes that be a result of the capture software. I then watched IGN's video review this morning, which seems to show footage from the PS4 version and I did not see any tearing at all.

I absolutely despise screen tearing, no matter how slight, as I'm extra sensitive to it, so does any know if this game has tearing or not? I would prefer to play this on my PS4 for the big screen TV/surround sound experience but I can always switch to the cheaper PC version otherwise though I'm stuck with a 24" monitor and stereo sound for that unfortunately.

I think it was mentioned that the PS4 version was 60 FPS on a stream or something.

It's very frustrating to me to see all the reviews I've clicked on so far mention fuck all about the framerate. Thanks for not mentioning basic shit, guys.

That's not going to happen. This game might be good but it wont knock Unity off.

This is the game that should've been called Destiny because it's destined for 2014 GOTY.

Fuck the Moon, The Wizard came from Mordor motherfuckers!

Nope.

Will wait for NeoGAF user's reviews but in the meantime this has moved up from my "bargain bin" price list to my ~$30 price list.

Looks neat.

Haven't seen it first hand but I've been hearing it runs at 60 on PS4

On the developers stream they mentioned that they would do their best to,achieve a solid 60 FPS on consoles.

GMG coupon already places the game in that price range.
