Destiny |OT5| New patch out Tues., Master Rahool reportedly crying into his robes

Once people unlock the upgrade to decrease the fire rate, but increased damaged (the damage won't matter in normal Crucible since everything is normalized), the weapon will likely lose to a Shingen or Galahad, even a hand cannon.

Again, damage does not matter in normal Crucible. If you want stats to matter, you play in the Iron Banner in October to see how strong your gear really is against other players. IB is going to be a blood bath, I'm sure of it.

I did not mention stats once. I mentioned the fire rate the damage bracket it falls in and the no recoil. The gun is the best in normal crucible. People upgrading to slow fire are only gimping themselves for PvP.

lol NO. Not doing it.

Think some of the guys are running this weekend, but Koro and I are scheduling the next run for Tues when it resets. You in?

Hell yeah I am in! In the evening right? Also, thinking we should do nightfall before raid. And if get shards and materials again, I WILL BE SO PISSED.

So how does getting saved to Vault of Glass groups work? Let's say I lead a group through and we clear. I can still go with another group to help them, and they will get loot, I just won't get any, right?

You and me both. It's a pain having to constantly switch to my GJALLARHORN when I need to take down enemies with red shields.

The trick now is getting viable, fully upgraded legendaries of each elemental type for primary, special and heavy to adjust loadout for whichever exotic is currently equipped.

Question: Do exotic engrams actually guarantee an exotic? Or is it akin to the legendary dice roll? I definitely have 23 motes of light and I'm thinking of picking that up from Xur.

Lawks.

I feel like I have to keep playing Destiny purely to keep up with my mates online. I can't be a paltry level 20 whilst they're all charging ahead to lvl 22-23. They might laugh at me! I'll be no use in a strike! The peer pressure, the 'keeping up with the Jones', its driving me forwards.

My experience in "SlowAR Vs. FastAR" duels makes me disagree with you on this one and I'm one using slow AR's in PvP. Sure if we both stand still and unload I most likely will lose, but that isn't realistic gameplay situation.

Slow firing AR's do really well in PvP, in my experience, and you don't need Shingen or Galahad to do well.

Well it's the stability that makes the Shingen popular. But any AR could have an unlockable stability upgrade on it. I use a lev 20 blue that isn't a 'Shingen' type AR, but has a stability upgrade that brings it inline with a standard Shingen. I've had success with it.

Is there anywhere that I can check the stats and abilities of various exotic helms for warlocks? I've seen pictures but I've not seen any info. This weeks helmet looks alright, but it doesn't sound particularly useful to me.

someone ate a big old bowl of "getting it." this means a ton, thank you. truth be told, I've been through this before with the other gaming community I'm a big part of on GAF- and it's only knowing that it's possible that keeps me reassured it's worth the effort. Destiny is already a bigger game in less than three weeks, and that can be very intimidating, especially when actual, legit vitriol is thrown Bungie's way. but we'll be good. :)

Agreed about the spacebeard conspiracy.

If only I could do something else with them... I don't want him touching them >_<

He is my friend I got exotic hand gun and two legendaries out of 6 engrams.

Yes, evening. I'm game for the NF as well.

And lol you already got your reward (ice breaker)... That's it. There's nothing better atm without beating the raid on hard.

I'm thinking about not taking the upgrade on suros that slows the firing. Anyone think it's not that slow, or is it still good for PvP?

I guess it varies from person to person, RNG and all.

1. Go into Mars Patrol

2. Head straight from landing point until you find "Vex Vs. Cabal" battle

3. Chests spawn into and on top of Cabal buildings and corridors + into cave at Vex side of this small clearing

4. Run that area around in circle until profit :)

Awesome. I wasn't sure if it was something like get a chest from each zone out something.

Snagged that legendary Hunter helm from Xur. It's pretty badass looking. Looks like the weekend will be focused on maxing that out with upgrades and working on my exotic bounty of 500 machine gun kills. Good stuff.

Well it's the stability that makes the Shingen popular. But any AR could have an unlockable stability upgrade on it.

Stability and Fire Rate. It fires like a mofo and keeps pretty much dead on. You can get an upgrade for the Suros Regime to max out it's stability but that is past the upgrade that lowers fire rate while aiming and it's not exactly greased lightning without that. I think Shingen-E might still be my go to PVP but I'll have to play more with the Regime and see how it handles past the debuff unlock.

Warlock Helm this time from the Exotic Engram. Last time I got an Hunter chest piece. I play a Titan but maybe I should start playing my Warlock (the Helm looks very nice).

This is the only Warlock helmet that I've seen that I want more than any piece of gear. I'm going to have to gather up two more motes and take a gamble this weekend and save my coins for another time.

Xur's Stock
Crest of Alpha Lupi - Titan Chest - 13 Strange Coins
Knucklehead Radar - Hunter Helm - 13 Strange Coins
Apotheosis Veil - Warlock Helm - 13 Strange Coins
Suros Regime - Auto Rifle - 23 Strange Coins
Exotic Engram - Helm - 23 Motes of Light

Notes:
  • If you're replacing an upgraded Legendary piece, DO NOT DISMANTLE IT. Eventually you may have multiple exotic armor pieces to switch between as the situation demands. You'll want your legendary to switch back to in these cases.
  • The Engram slot is, obviously, a random roll for armor type. Helms this week.
  • The Bounty step to advance Super Good Advice requires 1 Strange Coin; take this into account before any purchases.
  • Any week that you do not want anything from Xur's stock may feel disappointing when you are looking at it. However, this also means that you'll have a seed of at least 9 coins for the next time, and thus greater purchasing power when he does have one or more things you want. Eventually, simply "passing" on Xur's stock will be the easiest way to accrue strange coins.
Just wanted to chime in with the others that have praised your excellent posts in these threads; you are an unflinching stone island in a sea of raging, salty seas. Bravo, sir.

Is it just me or does Xur hate Warlocks?

Sunbreakers two weeks in a row and then the ugliest helm in the entire game.... c'mon Xur, buddy!?

Titans and Hunters have been getting some awesome stuff. Looks like i'll skip the worm faced bastard yet again another week.
Just got that for my Warlock from Xur:

Okay, so I've decided to point out why I have my point of view on the loot system in Destiny. Why I feel it's terrible, and point out that it does in fact exist since apparently it doesn't? lol

A progression based system would be fine, but Destiny's items aren't designed like that. In a typical MMO, a specific item is always the same. A Berserker's light armor exotic chest piece in GW2 will be equivalent to another. A Bonetti's Rapier will be equivalent to any other Bonetti's Rapier, minus the sigils you may swap out.

This is not the case in Destiny. Exotic weapons are equivalent, but that is all. Legendary weapons and armor(and also exotic armor) are not, not even copies of the exact same base item. Storebought legendaries are the only ones that remain static, and those tend to actually be mediocre versions.

You can obtain 100 copies of The Devil You Know from drops etc, and every single one will likely be different. You could actually probably acquire THOUSANDS of copies of that weapon and have them all be different. Many will be better than the one you can buy due to having better mods. This design means there is, in fact, a loot system in this game. This is just like Diablo etc, you want to get a good version of the weapon or armor.

Hitting level 30 is cool. But guess what? Odds are the armor you're wearing to hit 30 is also not BiS. A piece of armor has the following variables when it's rolled:

1. Stat combination. What combination of Int/Discipline/Strength will it have?
2. Stat values. How high are those stats going to be?
3. Other mods. Ammo capacity, reload speed, etc.

You could get a ton of legendary helmets and still not have a perfect one.

The game is designed with a core part of random loot systems in mind. It's just missing the other part. The part where you actually give people those items and let them try to get better ones.

The items bought from vendors serve to provide you with something. They allow you to advance a bit. But you will never, ever, EVER, reach a point where you're completely decked out with BiS purely through bought items. And I'm not just pointing that out because of raid gear being the only way to hit 30. Even if bought legendaries could get you to 30, it wouldn't be possible to hit perfection that way.

Now, getting a full set of perfect items is a pipe dream in any loot game, but it's something you can try and feel like you're making some level of progress toward. "Yes! I got a better Thunderfury!" is something you may feel in Diablo 3. Getting your first Thunderfury was fucking awesome, but getting an even better one is, too! Is that possible in Destiny? Sure. But is the loot system designed to make it seem even remotely likely? Absolutely not.

There are a lot, and I mean a lot of people like myself that would play Destiny for months and months after hitting 30 and whatnot. We would be farming for better stuff. Inching closer to our ideal. The item design supports this. Unfortunately, the distribution does not. This is why I stand by my statement that they took some of the worst parts of various genres and forgot to include the parts that make those acceptable.

I understand there are people that disagree. And hey, it's awesome that there are people that like the game as it is. But all I see with Destiny is a massive amount of potential, even without more content, that's being thrown down the drain. And it's weird, because many of its problems don't require crazy redoing of core game systems. They don't require developing new content. They just require changing some numbers around on drop rates and adding some stuff to drop tables, like strikes.

Forgot to post this yesterday!

I won't lie - I love it. Partially because it's an exotic, yeah...But also because it's a really rad gun. The only issue I have with it is the reload. Low clip size isn't the worst thing in the world, but slow reload can be annoying. Damage is pretty nice, though. Can't wait for the buff! Until then, I'm going to use it to get it leveled.

thanks a ton

Ah fuck it, might grab the Titan Chest from Xur. I have 23 coins so if I do a Weekly next week then I can get 3 more for whatever else he's selling next week.

You been able to try the AR the Queen sells? I haven't been able to try it yet, but I like the look of the stats, with the stability unlock.

Played the Moon Strike last night and had a bounty for completing it and got my first rare drop.

It was a bit rough, It was two 14s and a 15 (me) and we did a really poor job of taking out the knights and wizards that spawn in the boss' chamber.

It was a really fun final encounter, though I didn't really care for the lead up to it in the mission. Especially the room that spawns a ton of knights and wizards while you wait for the door to open. A bit too close quartered for me.

In any event, I'm liking the game a bit more. My 'goal' right now is to get up to level 26-27 and try to complete the raid and probably call it a day until the DLC comes out, which means I need to get it done prior to Oct 28th when Sunset overdrive comes out.

I'm thinking about not taking the upgrade on suros that slows the firing. Anyone think it's not that slow, or is it still good for PvP?

It's still really good for PVP, just get used to its firing rate and aim for the head. I've been using it exclusively online for almost 3 weeks now. It's honestly my go-to gun for any situation.

The truth is, ultimately the attribute stat values on armor are not that important in Destiny. stacking reduced cooldowns on your sub-abilities are nice, but all the other properties including even their aesthetics are more important to me :X
