PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | September 2014

I have a inner self debate about what to do with the many digital only indie games that I bought and I did not enjoyed so much to keep in my memory card for ever. I paid for them so only delete them would fell wrong, don't you think?

What's wrong is having games you didn't fancy taking up precious memory card space.

lol I can no longer keep up with what is going on here.

Indeed! Things are getting as fast as the old Vita monthly threads.

It's a bunch of stuff.

We talk about games we're playing, reviews and such going up on the site, the store releases each week, do a recap of the major news points, some talking points and listener mail, a recommendation for a good game, DLC, or other Vita goodies to buy and sometimes special guests.

It releases weekly and this week is episode #44. :)

Good stuff :)

Well... It's official now.

Game catalog has labeled Freedom Wars a kusoge (lit. shit game).

gc is the consolidation of (the original) game catalog, meisaku/yosaku wiki (the one for good games), and kusoge wiki. I wonder if Fredom Wars has a chance at becoming Kusoge of the Year.

I don't play SSDelta, but apparently, the Dione (as a collab boss) is waaaay better made in SSDelta than Freedom Wars. LOL.

I say Skyrim is shit. Still people love it.
I love Way of the Samurai 4 and people say its shit.
So it doesnt say anything.

That's sad, it looked like it had potential.

The company most synonymous with kusoge in Japan is usually Idea Factory. They took on the Compile Heart pseudonym just to avoid the stigma.

Can't say that I'm surprised, actually.

So my Vita's battery indicator randomly drops from full-almost full to low battery warning. I think my USB cable is causing it not to charge correctly (it looks completely wrecked).

Are there any good cheap Vita USB cables? I really don't want to pay $10+ for a new one if I don't have to.

I have the same problem with mine, tried everything but nothing worked. It makes me mad as fuck, and I can't even try to get another charger because I couldn't find the set here (charger + proprietary usb), only part of it.

Didnt check GAF till today.

I win this!

Thanks you so much for doing this give away, Baekshi.

Now is the time to try a waifu fighting game :)

I don't like the EU Vita 2000 D: The Japanese Green/Lime back panel was silky smooth and cool to the touch. The black Vita I got now is velvety and gets sorta warmish after not too long. Doesn't feel right!

Considering the questionable quality of the criticisms at launch, I think I'll wait until I actually play it before forming an opinion.

Is there any horror or halloween themed game slated for PS4 (or already out) that could potentially (and feasibly) be included in October's PS+ offerings?

Home would've been a solid contender if it looked like its release was imminent.

Exactly the same thing happens to me, I've purchased a brand new charger as well and it still has the problem. It likely is an issue with either the battery or...EARLY ADOPTERS CURSELULZ

They are a few horror games coming out in October retail wise not sure on the indie scene. Binding of isaac comes on November though.

It would have to be shockingly bad to win Kusoge of the year, no? Are any of these claims vested in reality or is this some sort of shame campaign pile on hate the likes of Destiny?

Speaking of Destiny, man it has amazing vehicle controls. They just feel perfect on the DS4.

Well then, nice to know. If I waited a couple of months I could've got the BL2 Vita 2k pack, the mom and pops store next to me is/was selling it. But dat OLED though, I'll stick with it till the very end
, which will come soon since it is an OLED.

No way it beats out <insert Compile Heart game here>.

I like Compile Heart :p

Yeah you've got The Evil Within, Alien: Isolation, Costume Quest 2, and NBA Live 15.

CQ2 would've been a crazy get for PS+, and it is scheduled to release on Steam the same day that October's PS+ goes live (10/7), but I kinda want to personally purchase the game to support Double Fine. Still, in terms of tone and appeal, CQ2 would be an amazing addition.

Haven't heard anything re: Secret Ponchos or Ray's the Dead, both shown during Sony's E3 2013 presser, and SP was one of those titles that was supposed to come during the launch window via PS+, so I suppose it could be that... Ray's would've been a great October game though.

Unfortunately, I have played the game and I agree with many points of the article, experiencing the game first hand.

It has a lot of problems, down to the way the developers made this game. It has social game elements, like energy bars for weapon creation/upgrades/improvement. Randomized bullshit for upgrades so spend more time retrying. Many post-game missions are "online events".* And they even had the nerve to sell Civilians (an item that speeds up the energy bars) AND the three locked lands for additional Plants (factories) on PS Store. They're indirectly selling power in a game where you have competitive elements (GDP Points for cities, and PvP later on).

*You don't have to be online to play them, but you have to "download them" (not DLC). If you finish or fail the mission, that mission will be gone until you "re-download" them. The online missions are usually obtainable for one or two weeks.

There are reasons why I read gamecatalog. They plainly list out all the good/bad/can-be-either-good-or-bad points of the game, which I can easily cross out things that don't matter to me. Most articles I have read always feel like from people who has extensively spent hours playing the game. They even point out problematic/balance breaking "single elements" (like Barbara's Easy Gear in this case). Articles are usually submitted months after the release of the game (shortest I know of is 2 months gap).

If Ideology Fight is interesting enough, I might come back a bit before forever deleting it from my memory card.

This is how I feel about Freedom Wars:

Well, I don't hate Xenosaga II, but it won KotY 2004. I think many GAFfers don't like it, too.

I agree with the general gist of the article. Even if you remove the most subjective part(the story/characters), you still see a pile of problem with the game. 3-month late impression is far from shame campaign. It's very rare for "big" titles to get 3-star ratings on PS Store itself (at least in Japan).

So yeah, if you ask me, I'd say it can win KotY since Xenosaga II did.

I thought Freedom Wars' problems were patched or being patched?

Some are already fixed, yes. Like the ultra accuracy of of enemies (only thing missing for 100% rate is speed corrections), the changing of direction of Abductor attacks even after they have already started attacking*, and the ally AIs stepping all over you instead of reviving you (did they put back this problem on 1.11?) or the reverting of Team Command to Spread Out crap, and the webs being finally removed if an ally melee's you.

*Best example I have of this is Koushin's X attack. He will raise both his forelegs for this attack, except that if you move to the left/right after he has started the attack, his entire body will follow you as if he is a lever with hindlegs as pivot. As if dodge isn't shit enough, they used to do that.

Barbara is still king. Melee is still shit. And game balance is still bad in general. Content is still very lacking. Multiplayer will change a lot of the experience of this game. In fact, I'd encourage you guys to play as much of it as a co-op as possible.

Big advice, especially for those who are after single player content: wait for Expansion or at least all of the patches before getting the game.

I really, really despise Energy bars. Experienced that on Jojo for the ps3 and it completely ruined the game for me. Reading all this is shattering my last hypes for this game.

Well, if you go on rescue missions, you can get Civilians to reduce those waiting times. If you're an impatient person like me, they'd be gone in no time, though. LOL.

And it's part of their plan, since they want to elongate the life of the game without creating enough content for it. "Grind for civilians so you can make your grind for weapons faster." orz

I haven't played Jojo, but I don't think there's been a waiting time more than 1 hour in FW (probably only one to reach that much are Boosters). 22 min for a Lv5 weapon upgrade, and 34 for Lv 10. They still pile up, especially if you're doing 改良 to get a decent weapon since it also randomizes. -__-

Can DS4 controllers work with PS3?

Yep, I use one all the time for Borderlands 2 (prefer the triggers). They don't work with all games though so you just have to try and see. You can get it to work wired or wireless, if you google a how to for wireless it will explain, setting it up is a bit involved.

Major issue is that the PS button doesn't work with a DS4, so you still need a DS3 around to do anything that requires it, like quitting a game or going back to the XMB. Also rumble doesn't work.

freedom wars is what happens when you get dimps to make something that isn't a fighter
should've got platinum to do it
could've been one of their best sellers

Finally beat the Hallow Area main story :D. The Otherworld area boss was really annoying (as you had to fight the damn thing three times before its dead X() but the other two bosses weren't that hard at least :). The final boss wasn't that bad at all.....though
Hallow Kirto
was quite annoying :(. You die in that you have to re-start the other boss....and 'The Eclipse' attack, I know how strong it is, but I didn't think it can kill me that fast XD!

Now I can focus on maxing out the party members relationship levels (well, they are easy trophies after all :)....just take a while to do so :(), then I can finish Alicard's floors :D.

Really glad I listen to Gaf's advice and checked this game out; really enjoy it so far (and already have 40 hours clocked into it XD!).

Also, I didn't know there was a Vita podcast by another Gaffer here! Looked a few pages back and decided to check it out; really great podcast you guys have made :D. Lots of information on Vita games and its great to see love for the system outside of NeoGaf :').

F2P crap in Freedom wars? Why am I not surprised, again? God, I had such high hopes for this game when I first saw it, now all that is left is despair.

Now the only thing that's left is for Oreishika to suck, and some people already complained about it on the japanese/asian forums, so I guess I'm lucky.

I can see a lot of the Japanese criticism towards Oreshika 2 being brushed off in the west. Most of the complaints seemed to be from fans of the first reacting negatively to the sequel's changes. Alfa System has since released patches to address those faults. As the west never received the first, we wouldn't have something to compare it to anyway.

Dimps used to be our saviours from the horrors of Sonic Team. It's only since about 2010 that Dimps started making shitty Sonic games. The Advance games were good and the Rush games were brilliant.

Never played the Advance games aside from the first one, but I didn't find the Rush games to be anything special. Rush Adventure was the Dimps Sonic game I enjoyed the most but still it wasn't that good. I think that all the mainline Sonic games (bar 2006) are better than any Dimps Sonic game I've played.

IIRC Parakeetman said that the "energy bars" weren't exactly a big deal, so you shouldn't worry about them.

It isn't a deal breaker, but people shouldn't have to wait when they have already paid for the game.

Why do I have to wait 1 hour so my Attack+ booster is built? Isn't the entire time I had to farm all those materials needed to make it enough?

I think I read somewhere in GAF that Dimps is made up of former Capcom employees. What was their product when they were in Capcom? Street Fighter?

I'd take both Rush games and Colours DS over every 3D Sonic other than Colours and Generations. Rush was the first Sonic game I loved to score attack on. Going for S ranks on the Rush games was amazing. The gameplay was original and unique at the time and had my favourite bosses in the series. I adored the Rush games. So fun.
