I've never tried holding a Moto X but I will make a firm stand and say that this is wrong.

No I'm right.

Not sure I'm following the logic. Nexus X is to big, therefore, iPhone 6.

There's like a billion other android phones no? If you really want an iPhone, don't use the nexus as justification lol, just get one.

It's pretty simple:

I like Android. But I only like Google's flavour of Android and I like quick updates. In the UK, there is only one Android phone that offers this: the Nexus devices. They don't sell the Google Play Edition phones here, if they did, I'd be straight on a HTC One M8 Google Play Edition.

I also don't mind iOS and think the hardware is great, fantastic cameras, great app ecosystem, some nice features and quite a nice consistent experience. The iPhone offers the hardware and the software I like.

I'd much prefer Android, but if that's not available in hardware I like, then the next in line goes to the iPhone.

I'm not completely against the idea of a Nexus 6 though (one this size), I carry my iPad mini around with me (and my HTC One Google Play Edition (converted a standard UK model myself, I'm not doing that again)). I could possibly just carry around one large phone to replace that. But I'll see when it gets closer to the time, but my immediate reaction is that I don't want a 5.9" screen phone.

Moto x is in the UK and runs stock Google. All Motorola's extras are controlled in a stand-alone app (that gets updated through the play store). Motorola has consistently updated the first gen Moto X within at most a couple weeks of Google updates.

For now.

Unlike the Nexus and Google Play edition devices, the updates are a selling point. With the Moto X, Motorola have just been doing a really great job, and with their new ownership of Lenovo surely about to take hold sometime soon - there's no guarantee it'll carry on.

Sell hasn't been finalized yet, don't expect lenovo influence to show for 12-18 months after acquisition. Think back to how long Google influence took to show over there.

There is also the point that the Moto X is more expensive than the Nexus devices by a decent margin - if I'm going to downgrade to less desirable build, I'd rather not have to pay so much for it.

£299

Although I should say the Moto X does look like a good phone with an improved build, it'd be a consideration, I just don't think it'd replace the iPhone 6 @ #2.

Whats an iphone go for out there?

£539 - I wouldn't be opposed to paying for that an Android phone if it ticked my relevant boxes either. But the Moto X doesn't. I'd pay that for a HTC One M8 Google Play Edition or Xperia Z3 Google Play Edition though and they would get priority over the iPhone at that point, if they were available in the UK.

Well... if the point of contention is build quality the guy in this bend test video seems quite surprised by how tough the Moto X is. Worth noting of course that the Motorola made Nexus 6 will have the same build quality and metal rim/antenna. And dat back dimple.

Regardless, I'd totally recommend tying all the phones in your hand before ultimate decision. I played with a bamboo Moto X the other day and I gotta say that thing feels ridiculously good in my hand. Maybe I have big hands (I don't think they're that big) but it was one handed perfection, that dimple on the back really helps you keep a solid grip, and the bamboo had a nice grippy texture too (although I plan on getting a leather back when I do order one). Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 both didn't have a good one handed feel to them, for the record.

I can totally get the price difference between Moto X and Nexus being off putting, but you said that you overall prefer stock Android to iOS, yet say that an iphone 6 is your 2nd choice to a smaller Nexus 6 (which is well known would be/is manufactured by Motorola, and if existed would thus be near identical to the Moto X), Which I can't imagine an iphone 6 would be less expensive than a Moto X, so...

Something about the math you're dishing out isn't adding up

I see people are still feeling the need to defend the moto x 2014. That says something.

5.5 would have been the perfect size. Onscreen navigation takes away from screen real estate.

It's not about maths, it's about preference. A lot of one's preference is intangible, you can't add it up. I don't get why they need to.

As I said, I'm not completely against the Moto X, or the Nexus 6 (5.9"), but my preferences which can depend on how i'm feeling at that particular moment juggle the priorities in different ways. I may end up getting the Nexus 6 even at 5.9" over all else.

Damn that's huge. One of the reasons I ditched my Note 3 for my iPhone 6 was because I missed being able to use one hand. This phone is even bigger than the Note 3. Ugh.

If it has a decent off-contract price (like the Nexus phones before it), I might pick it up for whenever I start getting Android urges.

Maybe Google plan to continue to sell N5 along side of N6. With Android L update, N5 well probably run fine for at least a couple more years. Glad I didn't wait even if N5 becomes cheaper afterward.

Sooo pre-ordering\ ordering the Nexus 6 off google play once it release looks so good, I had enough of my Sony Xperia Z the flaps are becoming annoying.

I guess i will move to from Moto G to either Moto X or Nexus 5.

There's absolutely no reason for a phone to be that huge with the current Technology we have and i hope their reason is not based on some stupid fashion sense.

Genuine question: Why's it so difficult to flash a gpe ROM to a touchwizzed s5 or sensed m8?

I have a Nexus 4, was gonna skip the 5 and pick up the 6 but that's just too big, and it'll probably be too expensive. So I'll pass on this too, sadly.

Is the nexus 4 getting the L update? I'm not sure me or my jeans are ready to join team giant phone, so I might stick with the 4 if so. I'm tempted by the 5 but is the camera quality a deal breaker?

Not sure why you think the phone will be as big as the iPhone 6+.

My Note3 has a 5.7" screen, and it could actually fit a 5.9" within the frame with less bezels. The Note 3 is slitghtly smaller then then Note 2 which features a 5.5" screen.. and way smaller then iPhone 6+.

Since i don't call anyone and just text / browse, i'd welcome 5.9 inches. Still need Pants with bigger pockets tho.

nexus 5 is smaller than iphone 6 but with a bigger screen, nexus 6 is smaller than iphone 6 plus but with a much bigger screen.

genius marketing again from apple, LOOK HOW THIN IT IS FOR NO REASON! (please ignore the bezels)

Our Z had the worst flaps on the Z lineup.

Mine's not even waterproof anymore. lol

This. I'm a huge fan of the Nexus line but this new monster is far too big. I'll just upgrade to 5 somewhere done the line.

Are we expecting decent battery life for this? My wife is happy with her 4 except for the battery life which is truly horrific - and the 5 isn't supposed to be much better in that regard from what I gather. :(

:lol if true.

Completely ridiculous.

5.2" is the max I'm willing to deal with. Even that is really pushing it.

4.7" is the best.

They don't get it. They just don't get it. While a Moto X may be 'close enough' to stock Google for some, it just isn't stock. It's not. No matter how much they talk about how useful active notifications or always on voice commands are. They are not stock features. Period.
