I have always been skeptical towards this game in it´s entirety and I´ve have gotten a lot of shit for it.
I described the graphics as "inconstant" after playing it and got almost murdered.
Sometimes this game looks amazing and sometimes really average and I don´t know why.
Overall I think the image is too "flat" for my taste at least at daytime. It´s probably totally realistic - I just don´t think it´s super nice to look at.
Aliasing on textures (is that what you guys call shimmering?) also remains a problem.
I will be getting this game because all of my friends have it pre-ordered, but I´m really not sure what I will get.
Hope all the videos we have gotten from them over the past 2 years wont backfire once the game is out.

Is it just me or do the graphics not look as good as I was expecting in some of those videos?
This track doesn't look very good imo. The car looks like it's floating, the road texture seems wrong and the rocks in the background look very bland. Now I know whey they keep showing the forest track and weather stuff.

I don't really agree with any of that. I think the game looks fantastic, I just thought people were setting themselves up for dissappointment (see some reactions here) because they started to expect downsampled levels of IQ on a console game.

Lighting makes all the difference , mid day for eg looks so bland compare to other times of the day .

I agree, I don't know if it is the B-roll effect ( what a terrible mistake by Sony to down-sample your game a couple of days before release) but the IQ just don't look good enough for me, it's not sharp enough, I'm pretty disappointed by the visuals, maybe my expectations were too high :/
There hasn't been remarks about the game looking inconsistent though. The issue was about it not looking as great as the b-roll footage.
Game seems to be consistent and great looking to a certain point.

People that don't seem to understand what can happen when you have real time lighting in a game. That and some areas in game will naturally have more detail than others.

The visuals look inconsistent at times. The canada one looks bland but then others like Norway looks amazing.

Based on the steaming videos i watched on Blimblim site, there is a huge difference to honest.

What about it? That's not even gameplay footage.
It is a bunch of videos quickly grabbed (either by rapier or Blim at the last minute because Sony wanted to restrict footage to only two classes of cars). So you are getting quite a few time trial tracks (no other cars to look at so might be boring), and simple daytime levels (no dramatic sunsets etc)
The last Norway one looks interesting once the stream is up (can't torrent at work).
edit: That Canada/Venom video is pretty damn nice.

Instead of wondering why the game sometimes appeals to you and sometimes doesn't, decide on what is your favourite time of day and then ask why.
I cant remember who it was but specifically there were people who called that b-roll footage bs (someone with the BP logo as their avatar called it pretty much spot on) and how they turned out to be right.
I waited for the gamersyde videos just confirm (as it was suggested this game needs to be seen in motion) but its very very clear that footage had post processing effects applied to it, that fidelity was too good to be true. Look its not that big of a deal, alot of games do it so why would this be any different ultimately, and I dont think there needs to be hyperbole about it, it is what it is. Still a good looking game and I'm sure will be incredibly fun, looking forward to joining my own driveclub with friends.

Yep , things like a sunset or early morning lighting can make track \environment look better and it shows in this game.
The IQ is about what expect which is not bad.
