Giant Bombcast - 09/30/2014

I have puked on pot. its entirely possible if you've got a 4 ft. Bong or something like that. Just too much smoke eventually just made me gag.

Yeah it's missing. I was eating sunflower seeds in college and it just shattered. I didn't have insurance, so I went to a dental school where they'd have students do it for cheap. I got hit in the head with the X-Ray machine, and they fucked up when they tried to extract the rest of the tooth, leaving the root up in my gums. They had to cut into the gums and take it out.

This is all without nitrous or anything outside of local anesthesia, because I don't like drugs.

Good lord, this is a great start to the thread!

It blows my mind listening to Brad ramble on for like 20 minutes about the hoops he jumps through to enjoy Destiny.

"Yeah, it's not great but if you face your PS4 to the north, while wearing a green tank top, using your toes on the thumbsticks in old Russia an event COULD spawn that allows you to accrue enough Dreg buttholes that allow you to purchase some legging which lets you play the best part of the game."

Maybe.

I am immensely looking forward to the Brad vs Jeff Destiny fight during GOTY

I hadn't checked out the Destiny review from these guys but after listening to Jeff have zero nice things to say checked it out. Doesn't really seem to jive with how he talks about the game.

Also, Brad trying to tell Dan how to eat never ceases to amuse me.

3 stars sounds about right for what he feel about the game. Mediocre. It's not like he hates the game, he's said that he really likes how it plays.

To be fair, the raid is the best content in the game. It's just a shame you have to go through so much bullshit to get to the point where you can do it.

I love the Giantbomb guys, really. But sometimes their dismissal of Nintendo gets on my nerves big time.

Here we have them talking about how Destiny kind of doesn't do anything for them, unless they jump through hoops of bullshit and hour-long loot grinding with the objective of more loot grinding. Also, they gush about Shadows of Mordor which they say plays exactly like AC with the exception of the Nemesis system and brutal executions.

But once they talk about Nintendo games, boy, suddenly they turn the cynic-o-meter up to a thousand. Smash Bros. is ruined by wasted potential (and surely, it's not coming out on the WiiU this holiday - how could it?), Nintendo is out of their minds in general, and let's not forget that the last few Zelda games have been total crap because they don't do anything new.

You know, I get that you don't have to like their games. Hell, I don't like some of them. But it just irks me the wrong way that they have such preconceived notions about Nintendo which totally warp their perception of these games. Brad, for instance, seems to be somewhat proud or self-assured when proclaiming that he hasn't played a single console Zelda since Wind Waker, while subsequently making dismissive statements about the newer games. It's as if he thinks it would be "a perceived slight" to like Nintendo. With the same mindset, games like Destiny wouldn't stand a chance at all...

Well, I hope that they give Bayonetta 2 the recognition it deserves, and perhaps Smash Bros. WiiU can surprise them a bit when it releases.

So Dan's going to eat bugs before the year's out, aint he?

That and I got from his talk that Bungies bribing players to keep doing that, too (to the usual reactions).

I sorta get where Brad is coming from. The gunplay is very fun and the mechanics are good. It has the same sort of pull on my, in sort of a way I used to mindlessly play Dynasty Warriors games, only Destiny has the added advantage of the loot/grind factor. The gameplay just keeps bringing me back.

When you remind yourself that this is the newest Bungie IP, it kind of makes it hurt though, doesn't it?

I mean, this is the new Bungie game and we're talking about Dynasty Warriors here.

Not really. I mean I never had this crazy affinity for Halo though. It's just a fun game to me. Not perfect by any means but fun and re-playable. At the end of the day that really counts.

The first hour of games talk might've been the worst in the history of the Bombcast.

Not a single interesting line when the GB echochamber discusses upcoming AAA releases. Though I suppose it also reflects my own disinterest.

It's crazy that the Bombcast is three hours long but they don't manage to delve half as deep OR mention as many interesting and unique games as Idle Thumbs does in the space of an hour every week.

Still love the guys and the later parts of the bombcast were better. Just could not stand their non-discussion of Mordor and Destiny and Forza.

Well, Idle Thumbs used to talk deeply about games. And Chris still does on occasion.

But now it's mostly just Danielle mentioning three games she's played, briefly describing (not critiquing or analyzing, just describing them), then the rest of the guys cracking jokes or making analytical extensions off of what she described, but not really having much to do with the games themselves.

Or Sean going off on a game he played for 30 minutes tops. And making analytical extensions from that point, which rarely follows through.

Everything else is just zeitgeist talk and concern-mocking of lunatic GGers.

I get where Brad is coming from with Destiny. I felt the same, for about a week and a half. The game just had no legs with me beyond that.

So I've been listening to the Bombcast for a couple of months now and want to dip into the archive, however when episodes average 3 hours a pop going through the whole back catalog seems a Sisyphean task.

Anyone have recommendations for highlights? I don't need specific episodes (unless there's a curated list somewhere that I haven't found), time frames would be great.

TIA!

Destiny has a very high level of repetition. You're fighting the same 3 or 4 mobs over and over and over for the most part. I'm only level 8, still on the Moon, because I can only take playing one mission every few days because of the sameness. The game is loaded with potential to be amazing, but it's so sparse.

I've enjoyed it. I'm level 25 and did that mostly by playing the Crucible. I just like the combat.

I totally get the "there is no story" complaints but I think...I prefer that. Halo's story was flat garbage like pretty much every shooter story, I sort of appreciate Bungie (either by choice or not) not making me sit through cut scene after cut scene.

Of course, they kind of destroy that by forcing you to sit through the tiny number of cutscenes every fucking time you re-play that mission but whatever. I'm playing it on a third monitor in my office while watching football/baseball and playing dota. It's a perfect third screen experience! And playing co-op is rad.
