Actually, AoT is currently the most watched anime on Toonami, but I'm not here to pick nits. As for the issue with the anime constantly catching up with the manga, maybe look at how poorly paced the source material is as a potential issue for why they had to drop the anime.

Maybe this speaks more to how I approach a series, but big end goals like that usually go into the back of my mind. Like, I put "KING OF THE PIRATES!" on the same level as the rest of the crew's "I wanna be the very best" stuff. I'm not really anxious to see Zoro become the best swordsman, for example. I know it's gonna happen eventually, but I don't view it as something terribly important that they need to get to soon.
Also, I'd say One Piece does a great job of giving you that world building political stuff as part of the main story; I mean, they're pirates, so they're probably gonna get on the government's bad side. That feels pretty integral.

One Piece in and of itself is about the journey and not the destination. Which is it wouldn't surprise me if that is what he gets out of the true One Piece left by Roger. There's gonna be a ton of shit there for the entire crew, but for Luffy, it's being able to go on an adventure on his own terms and in his own way.

Not only that but Oda has done a pretty good job of establishing HOW the government works. Mostly every seedy thing that happens has have had some sort of of World Government involvement, and how their directly influenced by the Celestial Dragons.
But, if we are discussing Shonen Jump series that do government and world building well, HxH does it better than any other series.
Why isn't important... Everyone knew it's where the series had to end. They tried to shoehorn in a reason apparently but it's not really important. It's going to end how it should, I guess. For better or for worse.
Madara dies again, and I forgot why he's bad. He's supposed to be like an incarnation of the Sage's evil son or something stupid like that.

You should enjoy the litlle detours. To the fullest. Because thats where youll find the things more importante than what you want.
OP's strength is not about getting to the goal but the adventures and new friends found on the way.

Madara was just a vehicle for the mother of all ninjas to show up and rule the world atop her massive tree. Madara literally turned into Kaguya, mother of ninjitsu during the fight and started owning everyone. At some point prior to this, Naruto and Sasuke were killed by Madara and got to meet the sage of six paths to kind of hint that this was the thing that was supposed to happen, but whateves at this point. Now, Kaguya was actually being controlled at this point by her long lost son who just happened to be the black zetsu keeping Obito alive for so long.
So...at this point, Tobi (Obito) was being used by Madara, who in turn was being used by Kaguya, who was in turn actually being used by her son black zetsu. Got it so far? Now, after defeating Kaguya/zetsu combo at the cost of Obito's life and some major sharingan ass-pullery, Sasuke has decided that he's gonna kill off all the kages and be the ultimate kage to end all kages cause that's his way of the ninja or some shit.
Queue final bad guy and fight between Naruto and The Sauce, basically coming back to the end of the first half of Naruto as the two duel to the death.

I don't hate journey manga, I would argue up and down KHR still needs to exist. I feel like all the grand line shenanigans should have been handled a while ago, they should another adventure now learning a new thing.
Naruto handled the " journey " thing in the chunin exams, like learn a new thing.

I've missed the previous 100+ chapters of Naruto but I've read the last few just because I heard it was winding up a few weeks back. The whole manga has become pretty terrible, but I'd already read so much of it that I might as well see how it concludes.

I don't doubt that no Naruto means WSJ overall volume sales will take a hit, however in the past two years the unexpected hit Assclass boosted their sales numbers a lot, and other new manga like Shokugeki no Soma and Nisekoi also have solidly higher sales numbers than many manga that ran for years before them.
In short, WSJ has probably anticipated the end of Naruto and Bleach for years now, and have been diligently trying to get new manga to replace them. The only two things they can be unhappy about are the performance of the new titles and the perpetually difficult Togashi HxH situation.

Meeting the Sage of Six Paths and being one of the reincarnations of his two sons allows you to resurrect anyone else who has died. Naruto was the only one shown with this ability, but I suspect that Sasuke had that power too. They both became ninja Jesus.
