Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

As an owner of both consoles I'm considering not buying this on either system.

Watch Dogs 900p was disappointed but I still enjoyed the game, I was under the impression they did the best they could.

What I get from this comment is that they are more worried about Microsoft's problems than providing an optimal experience for their consumers on all platforms. It really rubs me the wrong way.

One day, there will be a third party developer who say
'Our Games will be on PS4 stronger and better'
!!
Wait for it

Last time I checked GAF was absolutely furious about Skyrim on PS3, with people complaining it was unfair that 360 got a superior version.

Now that PS4 is more powerful than XBONE, no one seems to be crying foul now.

Okay surely you can see the difference between a resolution bump and literally shipping a game that is impossible to beat due to save bugs

from the article:

'Targeting 900p and 30fps, it sports the same slightly vaselined look as its stable mate, Watch_Dogs, and gets very muddy and choppy in motion. The framerate behaves more erratically than an aristocrat during peasant uprising – obviously it depends on the scene, and the engine seemed to handle quieter streets and interiors without too many issues, but when trying to replicate moments from the trailers, perched up high, looking down on the crowd gathered at Notre Dame, the FPS took a nose dive into the low twenties. This happened a lot, especially during the kind of rooftop chases you can expect to be getting into pretty regularly. We were playing an Xbox One build, but were told that both console versions are the same.'

I like Videogamer's articles, they are not scared to give negative impressions and mark down hyped AAA games.

I don't think I'm going to pick this game up. Fuck this.

I'll wait until it's cheap.

I don't care about AC and I never had any plans of buying this, but if I was a fan of the game + wanted to protest this decision, I'd simply buy the game used.

They aren't aiming for 60fps anymore either? That's a shame. It was already looking pretty good on Xbone at E3 and it was running 20-50fps.

And Destiny? What was the reason for the near-parity there?

Agree. Sony had exclusive agreement with Bungie and MS was still able to get it up to 1080p. If people believe MS paid them to hold it at 900p, Sony would have done the same on Destiny.

It's a developer decision. A lot of people have been saying for awhile that both consoles are CPU gimped, and its why MS is pushing for its Azure cloud computing to take the load off.

As I said, the "avoid discussion" thing is obviously false because this causes far more. They don't care about discussion. Only a tiny % of AAA game buyers discuss this stuff on forums, and of those many will buy their shit anyway, regardless of news like this.

Occam's razor leads us to MS literally paying them money to technically gut the PS4 version, to make the PS4 version artificially worse for PS4 users. There is no other motive or reason I can think of.

And that's.... Well, wow, that's just bad. I wish I could say they'd pay for this, but they won't, because people will buy AC anyway.

i don't think it's so out there to suggest that all of sony's "superior version" pomp has had a detrimental effect on xbone multiplat sales. the percentage of gamers who are up in arms about parity who would actively boycott the title is probably pretty tiny, whereas the percentage of people who don't want to buy an outright inferior version of a game (while still relatively small) is probably a little higher.

they know the majority of people who really care about this kind of thing are going to play on PC anyway.

I'm kind of burned out on the AC games in general, but this is an awful practice that needs to be smothered in the crib. Their reasoning behind it is also the most ludicrous thing I've heard in some time. It would have been better to say nothing at all and let DF sort it out post release.

Who is this cool man

Good lord baby Jesus, what will it take for some people to get a clue? Just off the top of my head we have MS giving 1/2 truths when the consoles launched about every one of their games being in 1080P, plus, of course, the great Cloud Myth of 2013 wherein graphics computations would be handled on a super secret server more powerful than Sony servers could ever hope to be and that are not subject to broadband limitations. Then we have MS sending their own engineers to Bungie to get the fall's biggest launch at 1080P. Now we have the developer of one of the other biggest launches saying, "Der, we don't want to start debates and stuff, so we gimped the PS4 version for parity."

But yeah, let's wait to see a video of Phil signing a parity contract in front of his grandmother who vouches its really him on video. Then, maybe, just maybe, we will believe MS is using its influence (money or incentives) to force parity on the consumer.
It happened with Destiny without it having to mean MS is paying anybody off. Don't see why this has to be a different situation.

I was looking forward to getting the Assassin's Creed watch thing from Amazon, but with this news they can fuck right off.

Pre-order cancelled.

Im sorry. Your cancelling a pre order for a watch.... because of parity.

A watch.

I can't GAF. Your politics are too funny. Lets all tweet at ubisoft about how rustled your jimmies are and watch them respond back to us with the laughs of them swimming in that MS money.

Is it reasonable to assume that this is due to Microsoft's influence then? The game has been shown at their events the same way Watch Dogs and Destiny were always seen at Sony's conferences, so this close association with brand meant that Ubisoft bent over for this parity business and willingly took it.

Fucking shameful either way. I hope this doesn't become commonplace.

Well... preorder canceled. Will wait for the game to drop to the $20~ range. Hopefully I can get my store credit back from dell for a different preorder. I thought they would have done 1080p 30, or 900p 60... not 900p 30... If that changes I will get the game day one again.

Well congrats Ubi, you don't have to deal with the debates about the differences anymore. Now you just need to deal with the debates about how fucking stupid you are.

That's... disappointing. But I'll be keeping my PS4 pre-order in hopes that it might see at least some advantage in the framerate department. Fortunately, the game itself still looks very good.

Wow, I'm not sure I want to pay 80€ (Bastille Edition) for a gimped version. Seriously considering to cancel my version, the new release Date is disadvantageous too.

Well it's still time until it releases, if there are no new facts until then I will definitely wait for reviews

Ubisoft just shot themselves in the foot. You know, I actually wouldn't mind if both versions are the same specs. If they bumped PS4 version to 1080p maybe they wouldn't be able to hold solid 30fps. If they bumped PS4 framerate to 60fps other assets might take a hit. I don't actually have a problem with any game being 900p and 30fps, thats all fine.

But the fact that they said "We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff" is just outrageous. They are admitting to holding back versions of the game because of that reason? poor form indeed.

good luck avoiding debates and stuff now lol.

Nice, I knew I can trust Ubisoft in making it easier for me to not buy their games.

I saw the new trailer, and I thought my eyes were going bad.
But because of this thread, it makes sense now.

I'm 99% sure it's because of this.
